I think my fav. pics of the whole trip of you and your sister are the teacup pictures. You can tell your both so happy and it shines through! I love those pics that true unplanned fun shows through.

Does anyone know what their puting into the toon area and when it's going to open?

Thanks for the nice comment on the tea cups pictures. I remember that we were really enjoying that late afternoon at the MK! I was really glad that we managed to get one "golden" day at the MK, even though it really isn't very high on our list.

On Toontown: it is part of the big Fantasyland project. The best over view is this article from the DisneyParks blog. It will become a circus area. The Barnstormer will remain and Dumbo will be relocated into that area - and will get two spinners. Besides that there will be a water play area and the existing tents will be replaced by new tents, one with a meet and greet and the other with a shop (just as they are now). Actually, I am bit disappointed with that. I love what they are doing with the new mermaid ride, Belle's restaurant and the new Snow White mine train coaster. But Toontown does not really get anything new besides some different theming and a second Dumbo...

That was quite a slight detour at AKL.

I think I like the pictures taken with your camera better than the Photopass pictures (yet again!).

I agree with Kleese -- I like the teacup pictures.

Oh, and "I didn't swim here on a soup". I've gotta see if I can use that sometime....I love expressions from different cultures.

Well, I had the feeling that I still hadn't taken enough pics of AKL yet...

I think the problem with Photopass is that they are always using the flash on you even in daylight. I know that my camera has a portrait program which does the same thing. But if you have a fair skin like Katharina and I have, it just makes you look like a ghost. But my camera does take pretty good pics for a point and shoot. To be honest, I sometimes play with the settings and don't use full automatic mode. I very often set the ISO setting to 100 for outdoor pictures because the pics look crisper with the lower speed. And I sometimes play around with the white balance...

I see, the tea cups are the new favourites! We might have to try to recreate this in DLP.

So I'm WAY behind but I'm just going to jump back in here. Thank you for the great photos of AKL! I am glad you mentioned how much it cost to take a taxi from GF to AKL. When I go back again in July, I'll be at CSR and there might be times when parks close and the bus situation is awful. Taking a taxi might be the only option at the end of long day. Do you think MK to CSR would be about the same price?

So glad you got to see Toon Town before it closed down. I'm really regretting not getting more detailed photos of the place in October. I didn't realize I wouldn't be going back again before it closed for good

Maybe it's just me, but I always find (found) TT to be a frenetic place- too busy and edging on stressful.

YAY! for a nightime spin on BTMRR!! That's GREAT!! 5 minutes times are fun to catch!

Tiki- meh. Old one rocked! New one; nah. Except we do use the "tuna tostada" line here at home a lot.

I guess we will resolve that cliffhanger sooner than later...

The last few trips I used to follow the Unofficial Guide touring plan for the MK and this did take you to Toontown around the time it opened at 10 am. I guess that's why in recent years I always had the wonderful opportunity of a rather empty TT. I think it might take some time until people make their way to the far away corner of the park... But this touring secret is now no more. And I am sure that once the new area opens Dumbo will attract crowds immediately as the park opens..

I think Katharina and I did not really get the Tiki Room when we were in DL in 1992. Seemed a bit outdated to us teenagers/yound adults. But in 2005 at DL I just loved the Tiki Room! We got into the last show of the evening and enjoyed some pineapple juice while waiting for the show. It was just magical. One of my favourite attractions at DL now!

Last visit are so bittersweet. So hard to say goodbye.

I think I have enough Toon town pictures for everyone.

I knew that I really like this snack and Katharina liked it as well! I think the portions are very generous and sharing was definitely the way to go for us with this snack. But it was getting chilly outside again and we got to the point where we just could not face eating anything ice cold anymore. So I am very embarrassed to say that between the two of us, we were not able to finish it!!

I can't finish one either it's to tart for me. I can't eat anything sour like that it upsets my stomach for some reason.

We strolled over to Toon Town from Adventureland, took a picture of Tom Sawyer's Island, one attraction I still have not seen in the MK:

Hi Wendy!! I am a bit sad as well that the trip is coming to an end! But there is still one full day and then our departure day where we had half a day at a park. And then it will be time to start a PTR which will include some form of TR from Disneyland Paris. It looks like I will still have a lot of material for the future!

Thanks for the link. I never went to toon town. For some reason we always pasted it by but I agree the Beauty and the Beast, Snow White and Little Mermaid sound really fun. I hope they finish some of the stuff before we go back. It would be such a bummer to miss it.

I like your MK priorities too! Too bad that Big Thunder had a 30 minute wait and the fastpasses were out. But a dole whip would've cheered me up considerably! Actually, I like the dole whip float with vanilla ice cream!

Toontown is wonderful! I'm sad it's gone but we made sure to spend quite a bit of time there this past trip. The details are so charming and Disney-ish!

Ugh, I cannot ride the tea cups. They give me such a dizzy spell that I feel nauseous the rest of the day. Love the pics of you both on them though!

I love my AKL pictures as well, that's why I did not want to cut them down... I really love the resort!

Perhaps a better translation would be "I did not arrive here by swimming through soup." Does that help any?? Oh, and the soup in question is called: burned soup - it is a very cheap dish: heat some type of fat (cheap stuff like lard or so), put some flour into it and let it brown, then add water and salt. That's it. So the origin of it is actually saying I was not raised in a poor household, but the meaning has changed to "I am not stupid!"

If I understand your ticker correctly, you will be there in December 2012? From what I have heard, some things should be done by then, mainly Little Mermaid and possibly Belle, the Mine Train will most likely open in 2013.

Thank you! I love taking resort pictures and I am so much looking forward to get lots from the Boardwalk on my next trip! I will try to not do it on the last day rushing through, though.

I like your idea of vanilla soft serve with pinapple juice! I wonder wether they do a vanilla/pinapple swirl with the Dole Whip??

I think it is so funny how often the pic with our camera came out so much better than the official one... It really makes me question the expense for photopass. But then, I love the borders and especially the magic pictures.

I was always afraid that I could not spin very fast in the tea cup because I get motion sickness in cars quite easily. But it seems that spinning isn't so bad for me after all! Sorry, that you can't go on them. But I think missing out on them is not sooo bad. Missing out on BTMRR would be much worse!

DL has a very neat Toontown as well! There is even a ride in it. I really enjoyed it when we visited DL in 2005. Looks more like a real town. Oh, and DLP has the Toon Studios! Will need to bring pics back from there.

Well, if you want to go home directly from the CR, you can get a taxi from there. And otherwise I think the bus lines during EMH will not be soo bad. There will be quite a lot of people leaving directly after Wishes, but due to EMH it will be less than on other nights.

Narcoossee's had been one of the first restaurants that Katharina came up with as places where she would like to eat. It never had been a first choice for me. I think mainly because I am not that much of a seafood person and other signatures appealed to me more.

But Katharina thought it was jut lovely and she picked it as the place for her birthday meal. So, we took the lovely boat from the MK to the GF and arrived at the GF's dock, just a few steps from our destination. Narcoossee's is not in the GF's main building, but in a separate round house just at the bay overlooking the water. It is a lovely location with a view of the MK (and therefore also of Wishes). Inside it is has white walls, tables on two levels, so a lot of tables have a great view, dark hardwood floor, blue table cloths. I think it wants to evoke the atmosphere of an upscale summer house. And it does very well with that. I really liked the interior – and would have loved it if they had not been in the process of refurbishing the windows, so there was actually a walled off building site in the middle of the restaurant. Not very attractive – and while I don't think things like that ruin a day, it did take away from the atmosphere to a certain degree.

However, after we arrived at the dock, we still had some time until our ADR time of 7:30 pm, so we used that to explore the GF a bit more. WE had a look around the shops in the lobby and realized that those are quite a bit different than your normal resort gift shop – there was some expensive stuff!!

When we arrived back at Narcoossee's we had a short wait and then got a table directly at the window, which was nice! Our server appeared and after the first conversation with him we found that he seemed rather uninterested in us. He wasn't unfriendly and he did go through all the motions, but we missed the general friendliness we had experienced so often with other servers...

I would even say that he made me feel a little bit uncomfortably. I didn't get the impression, he took us seriously.

The first thing we ordered were two glasses of the Fairy Tale Cuvée, which if it had been from France, could be called Champagne . And we were served another wonderful bread:

I think I have mentioned this quite a few times – I really love the bread they serve at the signature restaurants. I think that it is something they make on the premises, not something frozen and just heated up.

Of course we had to talk with the chef again about Katharina's dietary issues. This one was again very friendly and knowledgeable (he understood the difference between dairy and eggs!). At the beginning of the trip we had some chefs that really weren't so wonderful, but towards the end, this improved a lot! But Katharina was sad to find out that the crab cakes at Narcoossee's had cream cheese in them, she had rather enjoyed them at Flying Fish. But otherwise there were quite a few options for her!

We once again decided get an appetizers for each of us and one entree between the two of us. Katharina got the duck confit – and here we come to the point where my memory, my notes and my pictures all fail us! And I can't find the correct menu anywhere either. So all I know is that it was duck confit. And that there were too many large pieces of red onion to go with it. I also remember that Katharina was surprised by her dish. As I had been when I saw the first pictures of duck confit here on the DIS: I had always pictured that the dish with this name would be a duck paté – just as Katharina had. I felt a bit sorry that I hadn't warned her. I think she still liked it.

I think you even did try to "warn" me or at least you told me it might be something different than I expected. Well, it definitely was different, but also tasty.

I had a salad as an appetizer – with endive, pears and cheese. Sounds a lot like the salad I had at Artist Point? That's what I thought, but it was amazing how they managed to make something so different from the rather same ingredients. The dressing was slightly sweet and this and the sweet pear went very well with the bitter leaves.

We don't have any pictures of the appetizers because just when they were being served, Wishes started. We had thought about going outside on the porch (there is a large porch surrounding the building), but since it was pretty cool outside and Katharina isn't such a fan of fireworks she decided against it (it was her birthday, so her call, she will find out how many fireworks we will see when it is my birthday trip!!). But we were lucky that nobody chose to stand on the porch in front of our window, so we actually had a lovely view. I think I liked the view better than from the CG. It is still rather off center, but you don't have a parking lot and the bus station between you and the fireworks. I think I would like to see some fireworks from the Poly beach next trip... Especially from one of the parties!

After our appetizers we got new cutlery:

We were quite excited that we got special “fish knives” - that's what we call it here in Germany and in our experience, the use of special cutlery for eating fish seems to be rather uncommon outside of Germany. So we were excited to be served one here! Why did we need it? Because we were going to be served a whole fish, not a fish filet!! Being served a whole fish (a trout, a carp, a plaice etc.) is very common here. So were rather looking forward to this!

Even though our waiter questioned our choice and asked several times (if I remember correcty) whether we knew this would be a whole fish.

Our entree was:

Crispy Whole Snapper - Basmati Rice, Charred Green Beans, and Soy-Lime Vinaigrette

It was fried with a very nice crispy coating and the sauce that came with it was delicious, rather sweet, we thought that there might be some sweet rice wine in it. The fish itself was very moist and not fishy at all. However, it was hard to eat because it was baked upright in an S-form, so you could not lie it flat to remove the flesh from the bones like you normaly would. I think we did not do such a very good job at getting everything off, but the fish was soo huge, that we were full anyway!

It looks scary, but it was delicious!

Katharina got an espresso for dessert. She had spotted a real italian espresso machine in the bar when she went to the bathroom and she wasn't disappointed. It was the real stuff, even with a crema on top!

And I finally caved to the constant offer of crème brulees on the Disney menus and finally had one: Key Lime Crème Brulee:

This was very nice and had a distinct sour taste to it. I am a great fan of everything citrussy, so this was a good dessert for me!

When it was time to go we just saw the Electrical Water Pageant starting its thing and we had a quick laugh about it – probably reminiscing our first shock over the Main Street Electrical Parade. I know many people love it, but when Katharina and I first saw it in Disneyland, we could not believe that they were seriously showing something so cheesy with horrible music and that people were lining up for this hours ahead! (I know that many people really love it and I don't mean to say that you shouldn't, but for us it was not something we loved!) Somehow it seems to follow us around, because we then came across it in DLP again. We quickly found out that parades are a wonderful thing for people who don't like them: we just rode the Matterhorn at DL or Big Thunder Mountain at DLP during that time with no waits!

Then it was back to AKL with a taxi again (which was exactly the same price again, so these meters seem to work). Once there, we got the statement with everything we had charged to the room from the front desk. So far we nearly hadn't paid for anything with cash or credit card, but charged it all to the room. All our meal costs were going to be split between us and then of course everyone would pay for her own shopping. I was then going to pay my share off with cash (my credit card charges less fees if I use it get cash from an ATM in a foreign currency than when I pay with it in a foreign currency), Katharina was going to use the gift card she got from my parents and then her credit card. But of course, at first we had to figure out who owed how much. We got some tea in our refillable mugs (in a Mara which was hopping with people at 9:30 pm!) and then I settled down to catch up with trip report notes while Katharina was doing the math for the statement – which was the wrong way round. I had always been better at math in school while Katharina is the much better writer...

Are you saying I'm not good at math? Please tell me, in which subject except for PE and Latin I could have been better than you?


Well, I don't suggest to get out the old report cards, but there must be years where your grades in religious studies, geography, biology, English, German, social studies, music would have been better than mine??? But I think you did take better track of that than me...

Oh, and I think you are good at math! I was just saying that I am the numbers girl and you the words girl.

And then it was time to go to bed to have an early start for our last full day at WDW! WE still had lots to do!!

It's a shame that our experience wasn't as good as we expected. It really was one of those cases where service really made a difference for us. Normally I think the food is the most important thing of a meal... I am tempted to give it another try, but I am not sure whether it will be on the next trip...

I know that you love the MSEP. I think for us it is a combination of not being interested in parades anyway and the fact that the music did sound very outdated when we heared it for the first time in 1992 - and being 17 and 20 we were not very forgiving (remember, we thought IASW was built to torture people! ). When we arrived at DLP for the first time in 1995 there wasn't any internet and we were surprised that they now showed this parade in Paris as a great "new" attraction!

However, there was one thing we loved about it: the Pete's Dragon float. We had loved that film as kids (it's called Elliott - das Schmunzelmonster in German: Elliott - the smiling monster).

Some really great pictures at MK also. Good details in ToonTown. I'm going to miss that place, even though we didn't go there that often. Still, it is a really fun place even for us "older" people. I got a little bit dizzy just looking at those teacup pictures.....

Never really considered trying Narcoosee's, but that Crispy Whole Grouper looked really good.

I do too! In fact, I think you can be more bone free by doing it yourself- I often get more bones in a filet than in a whole fish.

When we arrived at DLP for the first time in 1995 there wasn't any internet and we were surprised that they now showed this parade in Paris as a great "new" attraction!

I think that is perhaps why I've never given Spectro a chance- I just don't enjoy parades in general and would rather take advantage of the shorter wait times.

However, there was one thing we loved about it: the Pete's Dragon float. We had loved that film as kids (it's called Elliott - das Schmunzelmonster in German: Elliott - the smiling monster).

I too, LOVED that movie as a child. It was one of those that I saw in the theater and will always hold a special place in my heart. Besides the fact, that I really do enjoy Helen Reddy's music too.

Our entree was:
Crispy Whole Snapper - Basmati Rice, Charred Green Beans, and Soy-Lime Vinaigrette

It looks scary, but it was delicious!

It does look scary - not sure how I feel about the whole fish. Those fish lips look like they will yell at me if I attempt to cut into it. At least it was not staring at you.

And I finally caved to the constant offer of crème brulees on the Disney menus and finally had one: Key Lime Crème Brulee:

Magdalene and Katharina, some really great updates! During our short stay at AKL I apparently missed a whole lot! Love the pictures of your detour!

Some really great pictures at MK also. Good details in ToonTown. I'm going to miss that place, even though we didn't go there that often. Still, it is a really fun place even for us "older" people. I got a little bit dizzy just looking at those teacup pictures.....

Never really considered trying Narcoosee's, but that Crispy Whole Grouper looked really good.

I think I missed a lot at Kidani - even though it is one resort, they still are rather far apart. So I think one tends to explore the one where one stays in more depth than the other part. But there is lots to see at AKL!

The teacups were so much fun that evening! And I really am starting to get much better in noticing details and taking pictures of them. But I think these were all taken by Katharina (but I am not sure, it was a long time ago...).

The fish was delicious! I think people seem to focus very much on the lobster there, but there are a number of other interesting dishes at Narcoossee's as well.

I actually started to avoid the MK on evenings with Spectro, just way too crowded. But then, that's generally the days with longer opening hours...

I have no recollection of the music in Pete's Dragon. But it was such a sweet film.

The fish was pretty dead by the time it was served to us, so I wasn't too scared about it... Actually the title for our Dining Review (which never happened since I incorporated it into the TR, but I might still put it together for the Dining Review board anyway) was going to be: The Food Stared at Us!

I think it is just something you have to get used to. The head is not very pretty, but there is actually a delicacy in the "cheeks" of the fish: some tiny muscles which are used to open the flap to the gills. They are considered to be very tender.
