Florida Mall

I was in WDW with my son at the end of May and we took the 111 to the Florida Mall on a Sunday, this was a good day to go as the bus was quite empty both ways and the Mall whilst busy was easy to get around. However make sure you are fully aware of where to pick up the bus at DTD, we stayed at OKW and took the boat transfer to DTD, I assumed the bus stop was in the same area as the Disney Transportation stops but the 111 goes from the bus stops at the West Side of DTD past La Nouba which is not shown on any of the DTD maps, one of the Disney bus drivers told me to pick up the 111 at the Hilton stop just past The Marketplace area of DTD. We set off in this direction but the Hilton sign on the hotel is not visible from the DTD side so we walked too far round before I asked for directions again before finding the stop. All this cost me about an hour before getting the 111. I messed up on the way back as I should have got off at the Hilton stop but stayed on until the DTD Westside stop this took about 15 minutes as the bus got stuck at the lights before turning right to get to the stop and then we had to trek back through DTD to get the boat to OKW
If taking children be aware that they may be charged the full two dollar fare, my son is 8 and was charged $1 on the way out but $2 on the way back, for the sake of a dollar I could not be bothered to argue but just make sure you have enough spare dollar bills for the way back. Also allow yourself 10 minutes to get to the stop before the arrival time of the 111 on the way back as it can get there early and they don't wait
Florida Mall has a lot of medium range shops rather than high end so it might be worth looking at their website to check they have the stores you want, if looking for toys or have kids with you there is a ToysRUs across the road from the bus stop
Buses leave DTD at 23 and 53 past the hour and Florida Mall at 19 and 49 past the hour on the way back although as I said above aim to get to the stop 10 minutes early
Sorry if post a bit long but just want to help with avoiding the problem we had

I would never go on a sunday again. Crowds can get crazy, and even more so at the food court.
We found weekdays to be much more manageable. Well ... except that thursday before the All Star Game last february when we saw riot police storm the florida mall over at foot lockers ... we were promptly driven out by shield and club weilding deputies. Scary but everything ended up fine.

There is a Disney store at the mall, and they have some stuff you can't find at the parks.
DS got himself the whole pirate plush crew, including Jake, Izzy, Cubby, Skully, Hook and the tic-toc croc. I never saw them in the park (just wished they had sharky and bones...)
They also don't accept KTTW as they seem not to be part of the WDW system
(mall at the millenia also has a Disney Store since the beginning of the year)

The bus sounds great, but don't forget that if you're caught up in a shopping spree you might need a cab back to the hotel.

Lowest crowds I've found on weekdays, esp. just after opening in the mornings. Had many times where there were very very few people around, picking up around noon. Same experience last december while many were going crazy with the christmass gift shopping. It is a recipe that is perfect for almost any and all malls and shopping centers worlwide it seems. Hit them on workdays, soon after opening. Monday tends to be even quieter than friday mornings. Do keep weather in mind though. esp. in Orlando this can become a factor for some to alter their plans.

Perfect timing for me personally. Do some very low crowded shopping, hit the foodcourt before it gets crowded. Also tends to sit good with my bustiming. Going to FM no need to hit rush hour for those using the bus to work, not that many folks hitting the 111 to catch their flight back (and thus can have quite some luggage). Coming back I'll beat the rush hour of both again but in the opposite direction.

I must admit we went on a Sunday purely because it fit in with our plans for the rest of our stay, the mall probably is quieter during the week and the other drawback with sunday is that it closes at 6-00 PM

I hope the riot you mentioned was not too scary I've seen footage on Youtube and its crazy that it was caused by the release of the Galaxy Foamposite shoes that people queued up for peacefully for 4 days in London I found The Footlocker a little disapointing I think anything of interest sells out on morning of release

We were not directly in the middle of the action.
We were "escorted" out very gently. It somehow made me think of the way CMs would lead you out of the parks (only that those gentlemen were wearing full body armor) :rotfl2:

actually we only fully realised what had happened when we watched TV back at the hotel

I like to save as much money as possible getting there as it makes the shopping even better value;) But it we have bought loads then maybe, just maybe we'll go for a taxi! It hurts me paying a cab fare plus tip both ways when I can do it for $4! The lynx 111 is just so quick and easy to the Florida Mall and the lynx 50 with a transfer to 42 or 8 is relatively quick. :)

The most we have paid 1 way is $26 by star cabs from DTD to the Mall, mears was $22 from the Mall to DTD. It would have been $32+ from OKW. Thats based on what we paid last year.

While I agree not cheap when added together we don't tend to use other cabs while we are there so we firgure its not that much.
