Hi everyone!

Just thought I'd pick your brains about Vegas--I'm sure many of you have been. My dad and I will be going on a short trip together this July and just wanted to get some tips and things we should not miss. We'll be there only three full days and are staying at the Luxor. He's 64 and I'm 24 so it's an odd pairing! He's up for anything and is very healthy, so we won't need any restrictions for him. Thanks in advance for any bits of advice!! Looking forward to reading them.

You will have tons of fun! I've gone to Vegas with my parents and we always have fun. I have the following Vegas suggestions:

1. Spend part of your day casino hopping. It will be blisteringly hot during the summer, so the air conditioning will be welcome. Each casino has a distintly different theme. Think of it like Disney with slot machines.

2. Go see a show one night. I reccomend Cirque de Soleil's "O" or Mystere.

3. Have at least one fabulous meal. Las Vegas has more nice resturants in a small area than any other city. My family really enjoyed the Eiffel Tower resturant at Paris.

4. Go see the fountains at Bellagio. They're fabulous and free!

Have a great time!

Vegas in July!!! Wowzers it will be hot. I know I was there last July. Hi temps for the day was 115-120. Lows were around 85.
We went one day to Red Rock Natl Conservation Area I have a pic of a thermometer reading of 135!

Speaking of Red Rock Canyon, its just outside Vegas maybe a 30 minute drive. There a 10 mile drive through the park that gives really nice views with out having to get out of the air conditioned car. Although we did get out at one point to look at some ancient rock carvings. Longest 75 yards ever hiked. So hot that couldnt even feel ourselves sweat.

Heres the website for it:

Red Rock Canyon

What rooms are you staying in at the Luxor? Pyramid or Tower?
I have been in both. I thought rooms in the Towers are nicer but its pretty unique to stay in the pyramid and ride the inclinators(elevators that go up at an angle).

Masquerade in the Sky show at the Rio, its free and inside.

Forum shops at Ceasars palace. Cheescake factory is there..mmmmmmm

Lion Habitat at MGM.

Blue Man Group show at the Luxor is one of the best shows I have ever seen.

Also they should have their monorail running. Its suppose to run from the MGM up to the Sahara.
Heres the website : Las Vegas Monorail

Lucky you.....Vegas is a blast.....I would invest in a small fan type mister if you plan on spending much time outside....It is terribly hot in July...Carry a water bottle....and stay hydrated. It is a hot heat and you wont how overheated you can get.
The hotels are so much fun to see....They are amazing.....I would go to the above mentioned sites but also be sure to go to the Venetian and watch the gondala boats with singing drivers, the lightshow downtown LV, the casino performance at the Rio is not to be missed. New York New York is a fun hotel and is a small scale of NYC inside and out....even steam coming up from the man hole covers in the building.....My dh and I rented a small car the last time we were there and went to Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon (beautiful), and Mount Charleston. Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon are well worth the time.
Be sure to wear a good pair of well broken in walking shoes...These hotels are huge and you will walk and walk, even with a rental car.
I was very disappointed in the Luxor buffet.....The hotel is nice though.....I have heard that the Bally's buffet, Ceasar, and Mirage buffets are excellent. We enjoyed the buffet at the Orleans hotel.....both the breakfast and dinner was excellent and very reasonalbe.
We saw the show Jubilee at Bally's several years ago...It was good and is the traditional LV show.....
Have fun!!

If you enjoy flowers and plants, go to the conservatory at the Bellagio, they have a fantastic arrangement decoration that they change every month.
If you are in downtown Vegas, watch the Fremont Street Experience which is the light show that comes on during the evenings.
Have a fun trip.

It's great to visit all the resorts on the strip....they are all unique and interresting. The shows are out of this world, but expensive. there is also an M&M factory across the way and it is really cool. Have a great time!!!
