    Hi there,
Just wondering what to wear onboard. I was thinking shorts and a t shirt but then thought that if we go to Parrot Cay right away for lunch that we wouldn't be allowed in.

We are sailing on the Magic.

So, do they allow shorts for the first meal or should we wear something else so we can go in and eat?

If you where shorts and t shirt to lunch at Parrot Cay on the day of embarkation you will be dressed just like the vast majority of the people in there. It is pretty casual the first day since they realize people don't have their luggage yet.

I second the above poster, they're not going to reject you on embarkation day for lunch. both are buffet anyway, the difference is in Parrot Cay the servers get your drinks.

yes your allowed and by law they cant stop you. they cant stop you because you already paid for it in the cost of your cruise. but shorts is defintely accepteble at lunch. now dinner it might not look right but they cant stop you. the only place they can stop you is palos because thats not included in the cost of your cruise thats an extra charge.

On our last cruise Sept. 09 Dh and I both had on docker shorts and polo shirts. I saw pretty much shorts and t shirts during entire lunch that first day.

Shorts are always allowed for lunch. The only place that does not allow them is Palo for brunch. Even at dinner you will not be turned away from the dining rooms if you wear shorts, although it is against the dress code. At lunch they ask for diners to be fully dressed (shirt, pants/shorts/skirt and shoes) and that you not come in swimwear/cover-ups. If you are having a pool day and want to grab something to eat without changing you can hit the fast food locations on Deck 9.

Exactly. However, the poster who implied that (with the exception of Palo) everyone is entitled to wear whatever they like wherever they like because they "already paid for it" is incorrect. DCL has become quite tolerant of overly casual attire even at dinner, BUT I have on a few occasions seen them politely turn away inappropriately dressed guests by directing them to the deck 9 buffet for dinner. I have only seen this happen at Lumiere's, the nicest of the rotation restaurants. These guests were NOT in nice Bermuda shorts and polo shirts, but in attire I would consider shabby even for a theme park. The Dining Room Manager DOES have the right to re-direct such guests elsewhere to dine. This does NOT violate the cruise contract in any way. One is entitled to their room, food and entertainment, but if you show up in truly inappropriate or offensive attire, they CAN refuse to serve you if they so choose. If they don't, they are simply going out of their way not to offend, not because one is "entitled." But decent shorts with decent tops will not cause you to be turned away.

Bottom line in regard to OP's question--decent shorts with shoes are fine in any restaurant for lunch on any day. The requirement is no bare feet and no swimwear.

You may want to add a shirt/top to that! :rotfl2:

Yeah, I actually thought about that....however....the rules do state no bare feet and no swimwear. It doesn't say a top.:goodvibes I've never seen anyone enter without SOME sort of top...but some are almost too skimpy to count!

    Thanks everyone!
I did not know that shorts were okay for lunch everyday. I will clearly not wear shorts for dinner but thought it was the same for lunch too.
