feeling like an oddball in LANCASTER,PA

I live near Gettysburg and I love WDW. I have visited 6 times over the last ~30 years.
I like to travel and there are many other places that I want to see but every couple of years I get that Disney itch.....I'll be there again in 2 weeks :Pinkbounc , which is how I found this site. One of my co-workers gets the same itch but most of my friends do not understand. "What is so great about standing in line, fighting the crowds, the heat, etc, etc" they ask me. Where do I start? A little nostalgia mixed with child-like thrill, :wizard: something new and exciting, something old and comforting, something unexpected..... WDW has it all:cloud9:

Couldn't have said it better myself! Welcome to DISBoards! Hope you have a great trip! Lucky you!

I really don't get the Disney thing like y'all do. (BY the way I am 25- 30 min south of you). I have been enjoying getting info from this board and chatting about Disney just because I am taking my kids for the first time ever next week. So it is relevant to me right now...but after next week - I gotta say, I'm outta here and on to the next adventure. ( I was in Disney for 1 day about 14 years ago with my then boyfriend - now husband)

I am not trying to put you all down for loving it so much - to each his own - you all make America great too - I am just a little curious what makes you not want to vacation anywhere else

Don't you ever want to experience something put on Earth by God and not by Walt and a huge corporation? I can't even describe the feeling the first time you snorkle or dive someplace like the Caymans. When you put your face in and see all of the gorgeous fish and the water is so clear you can see fish that look brighter and more beautiful than anything you have ever seen in a tank (yes, even the tank at coral reef) and they are nipping at your toenail polish because it is the color of coral. Or the view from the top of a ski trail?

I am going into this thing at Disney totally for watching my KIDS enjoy it. On this board I can't believe how many adults are addicted. It is interesting to me how much you build up the "MAGIC" part of it. I understand that magic your talking about...it is like how a child feels about Santa. The thing with me is I reserve that special "magic" feeling with my kids for things related to religious holidays...Christmas - Easter... (Ireally don't even build up the tooth-fairy too much because it is not related to a religious holiday) Are you the people that buy the Disney Christmas stockings and ornaments and trees at Target?

Pls don't flame away at me...I am just interested if you guys are at all religious because it just seems like Disney is your religion.

I would rather be geeky, free-spirited, young at heart, fun & in on the Disney way of things! You either "get" Disney magic, or you don't!

Yep - well said! I'm happy being a Disney geek. LOL

I am just a little curious what makes you not want to vacation anywhere else

What makes you think we don't vacation anywhere else? I would venture to guess that alot of folks on the boards travel more than just to WDW. This year for instance, we've been to NYC 3x, Vegas & the Grand Canyon, New Orleans and have a trip for Italy planned for next summer- I enjoy LOTS of different things! :earboy2: But I'm also a Disney nut! :rotfl:

Well I certainly won't flame away at you, but let me remind you that you are on a Disney site. :confused3 I'm not quite sure what you mean by "religious," but we certainly are Christians. And I don't think that means that we can't be fans of something put on this Earth by a "huge corporation." Please don't tell me you never eat at McDonald's either. :rotfl2:
Just because we love Disney doesn't mean we never go anywhere else. Just this year we experienced Williamsburg, VA, and the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. I don't think they were created by Walt. I think the magical fellings should be reserved for things like Disney, Santa, the Tooth Fairy, and dare I say Halloween. Christmas and Easter celebrate real things that happened and that we believe in. And I'm sorry, but I think the last comment you made was a little rude. :sad1:
And yes by the way, just a week ago we bought a Tinker Bell tree to take along to our first Christmas at Disney. :rotfl2: And we bought it at Target no less! :earseek:
Btw, this is TTADeb's daughter, newsiegirl. I didn't realize that I was logged in under her name and not mine. Sorry!
Also, thanks welovewdw!

Newsiegirl - I'm sorry about how that last comment sounded...I just meant that I kinda separate religious holidays from secular commercialism...but I am interested in y'alls view of it....like I said...to each his own...if that Tinkerbelle Christmas tree makes your Christmas merrier...good for you!

My comment about experiencing something else was directed to the many people I have met here that clearly don't go anywhere else. And again - gosh darn it, that is what makes America great! It takes all kinds....and that is their choice and if it makes them happy - that is the best thing for them...I just am wondering why they don't want to try anything else instead of like 1 of their trips to WDW.

I love Love Love eating at McDonalds - I just don't have a Ronald McDonald Christmas tree ... I Don't have the Hamburglar or Grimace on my stocking by the fireplace either. There is not one Golden Arches ornament hanging from my tree....see the connection? I am sure I will Love Disney too...I'm just not going to WORSHIP it.

Thanks a lot for clearing that up! I understand what you mean, and it is nice
to learn other people's views of things!
But still, no matter what you say, we don't WORSHIP it. Not sure what connection you're talking about either.

Well what do you know, another one who's about 30 mins from you! I am in Coatesville, near parksburg, and the horse and buggies, our walmart has hitching posts for the horse and buggies! we go to the outlets every few weeks and the pet place in centerville. We just moved here last yr from West Chester, and our families don't get my addiction either! So you are not alone up here. Welcome to the Dis! :wave2:

I have got to get my dd one of those! :rotfl2:

Ditto - strong practicing Catholics here, we do "get" and observe the religious aspect of holidays. Just because you celebrate the birth of Christ doesn't mean you can't enjoy the magic of Santa, too. They're not mutually exclusive to us. :confused3

We don't worship Disney, we just LOVE it! :teeth:

Not from Lancaster...a bit further East in Bucks county...BUT we are HUGE WDW fans and big Lancaster fans too. We were up your way just last week to go to our favorite PA Dutch restaurant.

Gee, I thought God did make Orlando. I'll have to check into that one.

To answer your question, we are quite religious. My DD is a regular Sunday school and church attender, knows all her Bible stories, etc. etc. We just happen to really enjoy vacationing in WDW. I don't think the two things are in any opposition to each other. We vacation other places too...beaches, mountains, lakes, etc. But our favorite place to spend some good family time together is WDW. I don't think it has anything to do with religion at all.

From Long Island, but went to school in Elizabethtown, PA. Most of my friends LOVE Hershey Park, and they can't BELIEVE that I would go all the way to WDW instead. I'm so sick of Hershey!!!

Hey! We're from the middle of PA ~ not too far a drive from Lancaster, PA. On my youngest daughter's back to school night, she had a drawing up on the board with the rest of the children ... and another drawing hanging from the ceiling. Everything on her papers/drawings was all about Disney World and how she's going for her birthday next year. Several friends there said, "you just went ... and you're going AGAIN?" It's hard to explain to some why we like to go back to WDW again ... but they probably go to "the shore" every year and I never say, "You are going to the shore AGAIN?" "Didn't you just go?"
I just laugh now and say, yes, my DH is working overtime and extra jobs so we can go and we're looking forward to it!

Oooooh, what restaraunt? My family loves Diener's, Hershey Farm, and we're about 2 minutes away from Willow Valley! Another great place is Jennie's Diner. It' not really a Penn. Dutch restaraunt, but they've got great "good old country cookin!"

Very well put! :cool1:

Did you know they changed their fries? They are not nearly as good as the old ones, but it's a great place to go. There is a diner in Lancaster City named Neptune's Diner, and they have the old Jennie's fries! Yummy! Now I'm getting hungry!
