Checking back in!

Here's our info:

FigmentGal96

Names/Age(s): Kerry (37), Cameron (6)
From: Georgia (Athens)
Stateroom(s): 7512
Celebration(s):
Dining (Main or Late): Main
Show Time: 9pm
Partipate in FE: Not sure- probably.

We're actually traveling with family in two additional staterooms, but they don't care to coordinate with our group (working on changing their minds). I'd support the idea of one FE gift per cabin. On our last sailing we did one gift for the adults in the cabin and then individual gifts for all the children, and it became a bit overwhelming. It's also hard to gauge for age- an 11 year old does not want the same thing as a 3 year old. Whether we want to set guidelines or not, I'd hope everyone will do what they are comfortable with and no one in the group will feel slighted. This is a BIG group, so the more the merrier, right?

Considering we are up to around fifty staterooms, I would also vote for one FE gift per stateroom. If anyone wants/can do more then great, but I'd hate anyone stressing over something that is meant to be fun. Or worse, someone opting out because of the large number of people in our meet. We're here to help make everyone's cruise better, not more stressful :grouphug:

Just my two-cents;)

My friend is heading up her FE in July. Her "requirements" are simple:

1. Each cabin is to provide AT LEAST one gift to each cabin participating in the fish extender. You can provide a gift to each person within that cabin, just the kids, or one gift for the whole cabin...that is up to you. Of course, you are welcome to give more than one gift...but the minimum is one.
2. All gifts are to be delivered between the cruise leaving port on Sunday, July 24th until 4 PM on Thursday, July 28th. This gives people time to still be able to pack their bags on July 28th before we leave the ship the morning of July 29th.
3.Please include a tag with your DISboard’s user name on the gift. This way everyone knows who the gift is from.

This is just an example, but it gives people freedom to do what they want, but I also like the time limit so that people can get it packed up before the end of the cruise.

As I guideline, I like this. It allows total flexibility for the FE participants, with the only restriction being on the delivery times, and also requires that each gift be tagged to identify the giver.

Welcome to you too! I too think that a cruise Is a great way to celebrate. You will have to do it for your fifty too! Boy you had alot of reading to do :surfweb: I think it helps! Did you see the peacock atrium, I think I love it! Either that or I just can't wait to get on that ship!

Thank you :)
Sorry I've been afk.
I like the idea of the 50th anniversary cruise - and a few between since we are 48 years away (well 47 at the time of cruise next year) ;) I tried to read the faqs, stickeys and all the posts for this cruise. It was a bit of reading but interesting. I didn't see the atrium, as we are trying to avoid knowing everything so we can have some surprises. I'm glad DH did his research though and found out about FEs and some other things that you need to know about ahead of time. I would have been disappointed to find out about it after we are there :)

I've been on several shopping excursions for ideas and materials for fish extenders and gifts. I've been obsessed since I found out about it. I want to give a gift to everyone everyday, my DH thinks I'm crazy. :rotfl:
Not sure I can pull it off but I will try to do that at least once. :yay:

Our Transatlantic cruise in Sept was over 300 people so we had to split into groups of about 15. If we get much bigger I think we should do the same as it's much more managable and affordable but that's just my opinion. :)

With a group this size, it would be an undertaking. We had 10 cabins and 10 kids this past cruise that we did FEs for, and those took up nearly a whole suitcase. I can only imagine a cruise this size. Thank goodness we flew Southwest.

Sorry JorDan about putting you on the spot there, I remember you made the FE and Tony thought you organized them. If anyone else has an idea of how to get us ready for this let me know, I will help or do it if it's not to crazy. I have never done a fish exchange ever so this will be a first time. I just don't want to take any Disney moment from anyone? :wizard:

I am very happy to see a little more chatter! Did you see that the ship behind ours was moved out of the shipyard, so the fantasy will have her stern worked on, then be moved back to finish her up:cheer2:

Hey Goose - your DW says- Yes we are participating in the FE gifts -
you did give me a great idea - I will talk to you about it later!

This is our first time doing FE. I like the idea of splitting the FE into smaller groups. That way we can make more specialised/elaborate items for each room/person. If someone would like to give gifts to everyone (including those outside of their mini group) that's fine too. Just my two bits.

Always the more the merrier!!! I've updated your page 1 profile with the additional information. Welcome back to the boards!

Thanks Tony for all the work you put into this. I will try to find a picture and e-mail it to you. I don't know how to post them.

Checking this thread keeps me excited! I need to start thinking about FE. Where is do you get a FE from if you don't want to make your own? I am crafty and I can sew but I don't have access to an embroidery machine.

I am willing to help out with the FE. I have participated in 2 different ones so far, one small and one large, I haven't actually organized them but I would be willing to try with a little help.

I agree that splitting it into smaller groups would make it much more manageable and affordable for everyone. We can come up with the total number of rooms we will include in each group as it gets a little closer. Also we should have a closing date of 1 month before the cruise so that we plan how many FE gifts we will need to have prepared.

Let me know if you would like me to try and organize a spreadsheet with everyone's info and keep it updated as new people join.

I will help also, I'm not sure how I feel splitting the group up but I have never done this before! I like the closing date idea and the idea of have the gifts given sun-Thursday ?! I think what we need now is room numbers and a list of everyone in that room plus their ages and gender. Tony said hen could take one of the reserved pages in the front for that! If you want to do it that is okay too I we can pm him to see how to get to it! Yea this sounds fun:banana:

You can look for them on eBay and on Etsy.com I like etsy because you can find a lot of home made stuff. In the search field just type fish extender! I thought jorDan on our thread makes the too! The other night I was thread hunting and found one made by another person from our group but I'm not sure if she is sharing. I will ask again!

Yes I do make them and probably will be listing again soon. Private message me if you want any details.
