We are renting a car to and from port. What do we do with our luggage? We have used the Disney bus transport all other times and never had to worry about it. Thanks.

Take you luggage with you, drop of your passengers and bags at a drop off point next to terminal, porter can take it, then park you car in the parking lot.

It is pretty easy....DCL will let you drive into the terminal area after checking your name off a manifest....you will drive up to the curb and drop off your luggage with a porter. You can leave the rest of your party with your carryons and they can go start the check-in process. You can then drive to the rental office and drop off the car. Hop on one of the shuttles back to the port and meet your family in the terminal. Easy Cheesy!!!!

The same for the return.....hop the shuttle to the rental office (it helps if only one person gets on the shuttle), pick up your car, drive back to the port to pick up the rest of the family and luggage.

The shuttles hold a small amount of people (7-10) so it is much easier and quicker to only have one person from your family pick up the car. DCL has line areas set up for each rental shuttle outside of the terminal. People start lining up waiting for the shuttles and if whole families and luggage get on the shuttle it does not leave much room and the whole process takes a lot longer. It is easier for just one to get on the shuttle and come back to pick up the rest with the rental.

This same thinking applies at arrival to the Port.....if you go to the rental first and drop it off it may take longer for the whole family and luggage to get on one of the shuttles to the port. Much easier to drop luggage and family off at the port and then just one person returns the car and hops the shuttle back to the port.

Hope this helps!!!

Thanks for the replies. I just didn't know what to expect. This will work out great for us!

Do we have to wait on the curb for the driver to get back or can the porters take the bags, we go into the terminal and he can go in separately when he returns on the shuttle?
And on the return to port, where do we wait with the luggage while he goes to get the rental car? do we all go through customs and again wait at the curb til he returns with the rental car?
Thanks.

You do not have to wait at the luggage drop off curb area....once the luggage is with the porters you can go into the building and put your carryons through the security x-ray scanner and then up the escalator to the check-in area. the driver can meet you up in the terminal when he/she gets back to port on the shuttle. You can also start the check-in process. The driver should have some photo ID on them to get back into the port area.

When you get off the ship you will all go through customs together with your luggage and then head to the shuttle area....one person can hop on the shuttle and the rest can wait in the same general area for the driver to come back with the rental car.

On the return we have always waited by the area when the shuttle buses pick up and would wait for hubby to come back with the rental car.

Thanks so much for your help. Hope it's not raining on the return!:rotfl2:

We did the same as others recommended on arrival - dropped all the luggage off with the porters; myself and kids through security with day bags and checked-in with all documents; waited for hubby in the terminal all ready to GO!

On the way back, we actually all got on the car rental shuttle - with all our bags - and loaded up and drove from there to the airport. We had a flight to catch and decided we might need the extra 15 minutes. Plus, it was a bit chilly (60 degrees - we did this in Feb) and did not want to wait outside any longer then we had to. The area where we waited for the rental car shuttle was covered, so if you do decide to wait - you won't get wet (unless, there is wind, of course)...
Best to you and have a GREAT time. :goodvibes

it's so easy. I was really nervous about this. But DH dropped DD and I off at the port (DS ended up going with DH), we grabbed a porter, she took all of our luggage, I tipped her, and we never saw the luggage again until we were in our stateroom later that afternoon. It took 5 minutes, and then DD and I were able to go through security. Very very easy. We had planned on DH picking up the rental car after the cruise and me waiting with the luggage for him, but the way it ended up was, we all got on the Budget shuttle with our luggage since there was noone else around, and went to Budget together.
