Drive Like the Wind Bullseye!! March 11 - March 18, 2017 - COMPLETE

Hi! I'm loving you TR!

These are called Magic Keepers and Disney had just put them on the Disney Shop App for sale a few weeks prior to our trip.

OO I like those! They look very convenient

Everyone get ready for an epically long post full of food and fun!!

Food and fun? I'm in!

Where we decided to try the International Tray of drinks.
This was 16 drinks and they were only about $9.00.

YUMMMM! My FIL works for Coca Cola and DH are looking fwd to trying this in May! And for $9 that sounds like such a good deal!

Hi Iheartbelle !! Thanks so much for reading. You do need to try the Coca Cola thing. We really enjoyed it. There is one they do with ice cream, too. Like floats in a tray like this.

Day 5 – Part Two

At about 2 PM, all of us girls went over to the Grand Floridian for the Tea Party. We stopped at the Polynesian to look around the resort and the shops there.

Here’s what I bought.

My kids stole these from me. I managed to get the black one back.

This became a blanket. I got this for our grandson. The hubs has older kids from a previous marriage and this is for their son.

Then we hopped back on the monorail and got off at the Grand Floridian.

I just love the Grand Floridian. It is such a beautiful place. I would love to stay there some day.

Our reservation was for 3 PM, so we checked in and looked in the shops for a bit.

Finally, they called our name and we were seated.

We all ordered the

The Bedfordshire Tea -

First Course
Medley of Finger Sandwiches accompanied with Berries, Cheese and Lavosh
-
Second Course
Buttery Scone and Jam Tart
-
Finale
Choice of delicate House-Made Pastries, Strawberries and Creme, or English Trifle

Accompanied by your choice of tea
(charge for additional pots of tea)
$35

This was a chilly day so I was delighted with the prospect of hot tea.

The GF and I got Earl Grey and DD got apple juice in her pot since she is not a tea drinker.

Next came the finger sandwiches and an onion tart.

These were starting with the tarts left bottom going clockwise – egg salad, curry chicken salad, cucumber, and goat cheese with golden beets.

See anything with seafood in it? No? Yep. Me either. Stay tuned.

DD got just ham and cheese for her sandwiches because – well, I think we’ve established how picky she is.

She loved them though and I was very thankful the restaurant was willing to do this for her. In light of what happened to me later that day, I should have done this myself.

Moving on.

Next up was the scone and chocolate covered strawberry.

Accompaniments were apricot jam, Devonshire cream and lemon curd. I just love lemon stuff, so I really enjoyed the curd paired with the cream. Delicious!!

And lastly – the desserts.

We particularly loved the swan. So, so good. Almost to pretty to eat. It was like a cream puff.

We have done this several times now and it never disappoints. I really enjoyed it and the girls did as well.

We paid the tab and headed back to Bay Lake Tower.

View from the monorail

We got back and the big kids took DD back over to Magic Kingdom, while DH and I settled in the for the night. I was pretty tired after 4 days straight of 8 or more miles of walking
.

With the big kids at Magic Kingdom, DH and I settled down for the evening. I took a shower, got caught up on some work emails and wrote some trip report notes in my journal. I love my journal. It is so pretty.

While I was typing and writing, I remarked to DH that my hands were super itchy and wasn’t that weird? He said take some Benadryl, so I did.

After about 15 minutes, my hands were swelling. I showed DH and he said that WAS weird. I thought the Benadryl might help, so I didn’t think much of it.

DH went over to the Contempo Café to get dinner. I just wanted a Chicken Caesar salad, dressing on the side.

Caesar Salad with Chicken - with house-made croutons, shredded parmesan, cheesy breadcrumbs, and cracked black pepper; with salmon $11.29; $10.49

This was not the greatest salad, but it was fine. The chicken was really dry, but otherwise, it was just what I needed since I wasn’t really hungry after the tea party.

DH got

Beef Pot Roast - served with seasonal accoutrements $11.99

It looked yummy and DH said that it was.

He also brought back these two desserts.

He had the cupcake and I had the chocolate ganache. So yummy. As I was eating, I noticed the first huge hive that appeared on my wrist. Several soon followed and soon my arms were covered in hives.

I took more Benadryl. This was about 9 or 10 PM. By 11 PM, my neck and chest were covered. I asked DH what he thought about it and he said he didn’t know. He asked me how I felt and really – besides being itchy, I felt fine. Tired – but fine. I was not having trouble breathing. So we decided to wait it out.

By midnight my entire trunk is covered with hives. DH is asleep, the kids are back and they are asleep. I still felt OK – not having trouble breathing. So I popped another Benadryl and tried to get some sleep.

Hey FrozenOne!!

I was tempted to try the ice cream one, but I wasn't that hungry, so we opted for just the international tray. I imagine during most times of the year that ice cream would melt super fast. I'm so glad you are reading along and that you took the time to say hello :-)

Susan
I did the complete set. We had many looks and people came up and talked with us. The ice cream ones were basic soda floats. Nothing too special.

Totes agree about The Wave. This place is fantastic! Haven't had breakfast here, but did have dinner. Not a lot of people. We were seated promptly, and the service and food were amazing. KT ordered a chicken dish and the chicken had "gross stuff" on it (i.e. it wasn't plain chicken), and the server offered to take it back and have the dish prepared with simple grilled chicken.

We have done the breakfast twice. Love it!! I understand about "gross stuff". I get that ALL OF THE time.

After eating at Yak and Yeti, we trekked through the Maharajah Trail to see if we could see some tigers.

I love the Tigers. I just want to climb in the enclosure and hug their necks and kiss them. I'm sure they would appreciate it too. No one wants to have to work too hard for their snack.

I waited at the ride exit. In a warm dry place.

We had a fast pass later for River of Light. So we headed back to the resort for some rest.

Or so I thought ……

Ooooo...a cliffhanger. I scroll on!

I know, right? I want to pet them, too.

Oh that isn't the only cliffhanger - LOL

The wait said 30 minutes, but we were on in 10. This was the first time we ever rode Everest at night. And it was around 50 something degrees, so it was chilly. But it was great fun.

I love Everest at night. Great view going up that big ole' hill.

We stopped at the Polynesian to look around the resort and the shops there.

Have you been to Trader Sam's Grotto yet? When DD was there w/ the band it was in "soft" opening (i.e. every blogger in town was evidently tipped and had been posting about the place for a good week), and at 5:00 in the afternoon had a 2 hr. wait. I went to the patio, and really enjoyed that experience. Something tells me the patio is more my speed than the actual bar anyway.

By midnight my entire trunk is covered with hives. DH is asleep, the kids are back and they are asleep. I still felt OK – not having trouble breathing. So I popped another Benadryl and tried to get some sleep.

I think the real mystery here is how you were awake at midnight after a day in the parks and several doses of Benadryl. :smooth:

We loved it too!!

I haven't, but I think we should do it on our girls trip that we ARE going to plan. Maybe next year?? I'm done with going with the guys. BUZZKILLERS

Benadryl doesn't knock me out like other things do and I did get a nap that day. I was awake because I was worried mostly.

Day 6 – Part One

I woke up about 5 AM – more hives and now my eyes were super itchy. More Benadryl – and I made a mental note about the epi pens we had in our luggage.

BY 7 AM – I was awake and having trouble seeing. I looked in the mirror and yeah – that looked bad. You know that movie Hitch with Will Smith and Eva Mendes? When he had that allergy attack – that is pretty much what I looked like. Like an alien. Eyes almost swollen shut, lips are huge and hives EVERYWHERE. I swallowed – still OK there. A little wheezy though. Time to get some medical attention. I wake DH – he looks at me and sits up quickly. Oh my God – he said. I was like yeah – we need to go to the ER. He said yes you DO. There may have been a few cuss words for emphasis.

We call the front desk and they connect us to urgent care. They aren’t open yet, they open at 8AM. We google the location and head down to the car. We pull in the parking lot about 7:45 AM to wait. It was pretty cold out this morning high 30’s, I think.

The urgent care we went to was Lake Buena Vista Centra Care on 12500 S Apopka Vineland Rd, Orlando, FL.

They opened and we walk in with another young lady who was waiting outside as well. She said – I think she needs to go first – HA. They took one look at me and took me right back.

By this time my tongue was thickening and I was having trouble speaking. The doctor fussed at me for not getting help sooner as by this time I was a hot mess. But she was super nice and hooked me up with a steroid shot in the hiney.

She said that would help me a great deal and she was right. In 20 minutes, I could see again and talk again, swelling in my hands went down. It was pretty amazing how effective it was. She said the steroids basically tell my histamines to knock it off and behave – haha. She gave me some more steroids to take over the next ten days and some ointment for the hives which she said would last a few more days. She said if I got any worse later, then head to the ER at the hospital which was close by.

With our insurance coverage, it cost $25 for the visit and $25 for the medicine which they gave us there. It was so nice not to have to go to the drug store to get it filled.

So what could have been a really bad experience turned out really well for us. It helped that we arrived right before they opened. And that they got me in there real quick. So it really worked out well for us.

We were back at the resort by 9:45 AM.

I was hungry, so we stopped at the Contempo Café for breakfast. I was still covered with hives and a little puffy, but I no longer looked like an alien. I still got a few looks and someone in line asked me if I was OK. I told her what happened and that I had just gotten back from the urgent care. I felt good, really. Itchy – but good. Steroids are awesome.

For breakfast DH got.

Bounty Platter - Scrambled Eggs with shredded cheddar, Bacon, Turkey Sausage, Breakfast Potatoes, French Toast, and seasonal fruit $11.49

Here is all the meat that came with it.

I ate the sausage, DH ate the bacon. The waffle was warm and doughy – just the comfort food I needed that morning.

DH headed back to the room while I went to the front desk to tell them what happened and to see if we might get our fast passes back from the ones we missed that morning. I also wanted to get the number for the Tea Room at the Grand Floridian. I needed to find out what was in those finger sandwiches. Because whatever it was – I was pretty allergic to it.

In true Disney style, the front desk was very kind and said they would get the GF Tea Room to call me and gave us or two fast passes we missed – Toy Story and Star Tours. We had Rockin Rollercoaster for later that day – for the big kids. We were going to be able to make that one.

Anyway, we gathered everyone up and headed over to Hollywood Studios.

Well since my last post and the post I was trying not spoil passed on the great information super highway, I guess I can talk about it now. LOL! I'd chastise you for not going to the doctor eariler, but I'd have done the same thing. I'm so happy it turned out okay. There isn't much that can't be made better by steroids and a Mickey waffle.

Haha - I was a mess for a few days. The hives lasted a while and would disappear and reappear. I was glad it was chilly while we were there. If it had been hot, I would have been miserable. But yeah- I'm glad it worked out much better than it could have. It was really better for everyone that I waited until morning. The doctor did fuss at me for not coming in sooner. I'm still amazed that steroid shot worked so well.

We watched this movie a couple of weeks ago. It doesn't really hold up. My child was in disbelief that anyone ever found this movie entertaining. All I can say is thank goodness for The Goldbergs. It completely redeems any 80s "fail."

I haven't seen since Nathan was little. It was OK. I loved Jessica Rabbit. "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way." And Baby Herman - haha
