Do you wait?

We are going to Disney in March and I noticed the next time Southwest opens dates our arrival date will be available, but not our departure date.

I have always bought round trip in the past. Is there any reason I should wait to buy round trip? Or should I go ahead and buy the tickets for the start of our vacation and later by the return trip tickets?

I would buy the tickets now and buy the return trip when they open for your dates. They tickets are usually cheapest when the new dates are released. You can always keep checking to see if the fares go down. If they do you will get a credit from SW. We always book each ticket separately.

If you can book opening day, I'd book it! I have learned my lesson and always book one ways rather than round trips. And always book each person separately.

The only benefit to round trip is you only have to keep track of 1 confirmation number.

If it was any airline except Southwest, I would say book everything on one itinerary because of the cost of change/cancellation fees.
Since Southwest allows you to cancel and re-book to take advantage of price drops or better flight times, book it as it becomes available

Each flight has "X" many tickets available in each fare bucket. Lets say they have 3 left of "super cheap" fare and 7 left of "cheap fare". you try to book 4 tickets, it will put all 4 in "cheap fare" bucket instead of doing 3 and 1.

If that's the case, then you'll notice there's a difference between booking one person and four people. Then you have to figure out how many are in the lower bucket. To me, it makes more sense to book 3 and 1 (even if I have to work to figure out the split) than to do 4 individual. 4 individual mean you have to check in each person. Also, you'd have to work with 4 different changes (if a change is needed) instead of only two.
