Do you unpack or live out of your suitcase?

A comment in the Split Stays thread inspired this poll.

For all the comments about packing and unpacking......for those who use studios, do you ever just live out of suitcases? It seems with the drop down bed being installed everywhere, there is very little storage left. I haven't been in a room yet with the new format, so I'm curious.

Do you guys really tuck everything away nice and tidy when you're on vacation?

Or do you live out of your suitcase?

If I am only there for 2 or 3 days I usually just keep everything packed. Anything longer than that I try to unpack the first day. It's definately more enjoyable to have everything unpacked, especially when you are with other family members who will ask you where everything is if you don't unpack.

Excellent question...

Hanging stuff gets hung, everything else stays in the luggage. Never made sense to me to move my socks and undies to a drawer when I can just grab them out of the suitcase.

Heck I tried to get the DW to let me put in a second dishwasher, one for clean and one for dirty. Rotating dishes and flatware between dishwasher and cupboard seems like a repetitive waste of time.

It depends on our plans that first day. If we have a little down time I usually unpack everything. If we are off right away, I'll do a little but never really finish the job.... I'm always just too excited to be there and I know my 5 year olds will just destroy the place anyway!!!!!

Unpack everything but socks and undies...they stay in the bags, haha

I use packing bags (ebags). One for shorts, one for tops, one for socks, etc. I take them all out of the suitcase and store on closet shelf. Hang bathrobe and a few other things, but the packing bags work great. Everything stays neat. If we have a split stay, re packing is easy this way.

I unpack on a cruise (tired of getting things under the bed), but I'm rarely in hotels more than a couple of days. Keeping things in the suitcase would minimize potential bed bugs in the 2 star places I stay at.

Never unpack. I would rather not put my clothes into drawers that may not have been cleaned.

Yes, you never know what you'll find in a drawer when you open it, do you?

Depending on the length of the stay.
3 nights or more - unpack.
Less than three nights - not worth the time to unpack and repack to us.

The only things we really unpack are our toiletries. I'll hang up my sundresses, but otherwise, we just work out of the suitcases.

We live about 2.5 hours away so we are usually just there for a long weekend... if that's the case, we just live out of our suitcase. UNLESS DH gets his way, then we unpack! He's Felix, I'm Oscar.

We live out of a suitcase. We dont bring a lot of clothes, we stay in a 1 bedroom usually, so we do laundry once or twice while we are there. I throw our clothes in when we get back from a park, stay up until they are done, throw them in the dryer and go to bed. I dont really bring enough to unpack, I just want to get out and enjoy!

Unpack. I inspect and wipe out drawers first but have never really come across anything dirty during our stays at Disney World. I unpack everything and put the suitcases away nesting doll style. I put anything I don't want anyone digging through deep within the bags. We always stay in a 1 or 2 bedroom so I do laundry everyday. I bring collapsing boxes to hold all the little stickers, papers, pins and receipts collected. Each kid gets a box to hold souvenirs while we are there to avoid losing/leaving them. Every thing gets straightened up before we leave for the parks. I am generally relaxed about clutter but on our Disney vacations, I insist on a few minutes of work at the beginning of the trip and 5 minutes every day to avoid stress and frustration throughout and while packing up.

I never unpack...it grosses me out! I prefer to live out of my suitcase no matter what hotel I'm staying at aside from storing most toiletries in the bathroom.
