Do you book your cruise through DVC?

If you book through DVC, you must use points for at least one passenger.

Using points for the cruise is not the most cost effective way to use points. That being said, we have cruised on points 7 times. The biggest benefit we find is that we only pay the $95 out of pocket. Of course the MF on the points used would be a cost as well, but we pay that monthly via direct pay, so that is just another recurring bill to us. We usually keep 1 OOB cash ressie going as well and just move it until we decide to use it. If we had to come up with the cash for some of the cruises we take, ie Alaska, Panama Canal, it would be really difficult, so we just use the points.

Definitely explore all of your options.

Have taken seven DCLs and used points for all or part of six DCLs. Most of the people on the DIS will tell you not to do it, but for DW and I it is a pleasent use of points on something we like to do. We are in the planning stages of our next DCL, and are planning on using points for 2 staterooms. Taking DD, DSiL, & DGS and will pay for all the adults with points.

Not sure if I should book through TA or DVC. Any price difference?

There was no difference for us for our first cruise despite the fact that our TA is a cruise specialist. But after that if we booked while on board we got a better deal through DCL. However they added our TA as our agent for the booking.

I had read on line a while back that it was cheaper to sell your points and pay for the cruise cash. It was cheaper. I figured out how many points it would take. Sold the points via Disboards and had enough money to pay for the cruise for 2, airfare for 2 people and also airfare for 2 more people who joined us in DW after the cruise

We have cruised with using points for one passenger and paying cash for the other. The only downside is you have to pay the cash passenger's fare in full at the time of the reservation, but we have done this a few times and been happy.

I booked the 7 day with a TA using the reload from a previous cruise and paid for the 4 day with points... Alaska 2014 and the trip from Vancouver to San Diego

We rented some of our points out, and used that money to pay for part of our cruise. We booked through Dreams Unlimited to get the onboard credit they offer. We also used some points to stay at WDW for 3 nights after.
