Disturbing Story out of Penn State

Jack Raykovitz

Dr. Raykovitz is a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist. He received his Ph.D. in school psychology from the Pennsylvania State University in 1985. As President and CEO of The Second Mile, Dr. Raykovitz oversees the operations of a state-wide, non-profit community organization devoted to serving at-risk children and youth. As a staff member of MidStep Child Development Center, he provides individual, group, and family therapy to children, adolescents, and parents. His specialties include adolescent development and school adjustment issues. In addition, Dr. Raykovitz provides consulting services to area schools, businesses, and non-profit organizations.

That screams mandatory reporter to me. Slimeball. Any school that would hire him after this or any person who would take their child to MidStep is crazy.

You know what I am not understanding? How come Second Mile isn't being overhauled as well? We have Penn State officials on the Board for Second Mile. Even Legal Council. Yet not one single person thought the accusations were enough to warrant an investigation? To make sure Sandusky was not allowed to continuing participating in this organization? Second Mile, in the end, is just as, if not more, culpable. They WERE supposed to protect the children in their programs. They were supposed to make sure the adults were investigated if their was an allegation. Second Mile did not protect their charges and deferred to the Penn State 'investigation' to make a decision not to do anything more. The missing/dead DA said he wasn't prosecuting. Yet he sends Dect. to the mother's house to listen in as Sandusky admits to inappropriate showering with her son. How many people does that make that pretended they didn't know they had, at the very least, an adult prone to inappropriate behavior with children?

Incredible. Just absolutely shockingingly incredible how many people just pretended Sandusky was just a normal, everyday guy.

I wonder how many of them left him alone with their own kids? I'm guessing that would be a big, fat ZERO.

Let's face it, JoePa's hanging in there for his big send off. His inaction allowed children's lives to be ruined, and he wants his party before he steps down. Unbelievable.

He needs to be gone now...and letting him decide when he goes is ridiculous.

Why do you keep using the rolling eyes smilie. I find it really offensive that you just keep harping on 'poor Joe' Joe could have stopped this whole nightmare before it got to this point so I have zero sympathy for him and I think the people showing up at his door with flowers are nutters.

totally agree.

I'm not pledging anything to anyone... you are all on a witch hunt here and have all put his head on a spike... i've said I hate that he didnt' do more.. I hate it.. but you keep blaming him more than the person who could have stopped it before it even got to him.. that is what I dont get.. keep going after joe but I'm one of the only ones who've said anything about McQueary If you going to put anyone head on a spike get McQueary... all he had to do was call the police in stead of his daddy... what dont YOU get about that? McQueary caught Jerry in the ACT he then went home and called his dad and asked him what to do before going to Joe.. yes I do feel bad for Joe.. he shouldn't have even been in it in the first place.. McQueary should have kicked that mans *** then called the police to report what he saw.. .not go home and call his dad.. THAT pisses me off... it should have ended YEARS ago with a call to the police from McQueary.. I hate that Joe didnt follow up with the higher up or pushed harder.. I hate it.. HATE it.. what I hate more is that McQueary didn't call the cops in the first place... tar and feather him... big ***** couldn't call the cops because he was afraid of losing his job... what an *******.

How in the world can anyone feel sorry for JoPa??? He knew children were being molested and he let it happen. They all need to be fired. I feel sorry for the Penn State football players and their fans...but football is not life.

I find your "JoePa can do no wrong" point of view disturbing. It is attitudes like this that foster environments like those in the Penn State football program where monsters like Sandusky are sheltered.

If I ran a program and received allegations like this, I wouldn't rest until I got to the bottom of it. No way would I just pass it up the chain.

Everyone who witnessed or knew about this monster should have done more. And that includes Paterno.

It scares the hell out of me that people like Sandusky exist. It scares me even more that so many "decent" people allowed it to continue.

All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing...

I wonder when JoePa accepted the position as an honorary board member of Second Mile. Why didn't he step down or notify the group when he found out Sandusky was using those kids for sex?

That is called tacit approval.

If they want to get that bronze statue that they have correct and make it actually represent exactly what Joe Paterno and his entire legacy really stands for they need to add a crying child with broken dreams and repressed memories. If there was a McQueary statue I'd recommend the same.

And that right there is an example of why I hold Joe Paterno just as culpable as McQueary. He is the one with the statues and the legacy. He had the most to protect and the most power and did nothing. Lots of examples in history where the guilt of a situation spreads far beyond the people directly involved. Lots of Jewish blood is on the hands of people who never stepped foot inside a concentration camp.

And before anyone tries to say I am comparing this to the Holocaust I am not. It is merely history's best example of why allowing evil to happen and doing nothing is really just passively approving of it. What was happening at Penn State was evil.

Do people really think Joe didn't know? My own family does. I come from a family of psu grads (all but me, I went somewhere else) my parents are not only season ticket holders for over 30 years, they, along with friends, own a home in state college. I have grown up at football games. I keep asking them which way they think the paterno/McQueary meeting happened.

1. Mc- "I saw Sandusky doing something terrible to a child"
Joe-"ok I will tell the AD"

Or

2. Mc-"I saw Sandusky doing something terrible to a child"
Joe-"tell me exactly what you saw!"

How anyone thinks Joe didn't know details amazes me. Isn't it human nature to ask?

My DH is a PSU grad but he said he will not be going to the game this weekend.

Even though I feel a bit confused with this entire situation, and believe that there are far more questions than answers, this is one thing I know for sure...

On Saturday, I will be rooting for Penn State.

I will be rooting for Matt McGloin, a former walk-on QB from West Scranton who scratched and clawed his way to the top of the depth chart.
... ... ... ...
I will be rooting for Silas Redd, one of the hardest working players in the nation.

I will be rooting for Stephon Green, a kid who proves there is always a second chance.

I will be rooting for Joe Suhey, a so-called wasted legacy scholarship who has become a fine player.

I will be rooting for Quinn Barham, Johnnie Troutman, Deontae Pannell, and Chima Okoli, four seniors playing their last home game on the OLine.

I will be rooting for Andrew Sczerba, a player who has overcome a ridiculous amount of adversity in the past year just to be on the field one last time.

I will be rooting for Derek Moye, who risked further injury to play in one miraculous drive for 409.

I will be rooting for Devon Smith, so every undersized football player can see there is a chance for them too.

I will be rooting for Jack Crawford and Eric Latimore, because no matter how many times they got knocked down they kept on fighting.

I will be rooting for Devon Still, because dominance deserves respect.

I will be rooting for Nate Stupar, who showed everyone what the phrase next man up really means.

I will be rooting for Gerald Hodges, because we are Linebacker U.

I will be rooting for D'Anton Lynn, because he saw for a moment how quickly it could all be taken away, but he got back up.

I will be rooting for Chaz Powell, because he has worked hard for 5 years whether on offense, defense, or special teams.

I will be rooting for Adrian Amos, because I still have hope for the future.

I will be rooting for Anthony Fera, because sometimes you just have to step up and do it all.

Most importantly, I will be rooting for Penn State. Bad things have happened, and hopefully once all the facts are clear those who are responsible are given whatever punishment they deserve, but we are still a great university with a great tradition. And most importantly, these kids who will run out of the tunnel have nothing to do with this awful situation. Be upset with Jerry Sandusky, be upset with Tim Curley, with Graham Spanier or Mike McQueary or even Joe Paterno. But don't turn your back on these 18-23 year old young men who just want to go out and win a game

WE ARE...PENN STATE!

I am wondering if they confiscated Sandusky’s computers:confused3

I won't be surprised to hear that there is quite bit of child pornography on them:sad2:

Boycott any Joe Paterno games! :thumbsup2

Who cares about football at a time like this?

They had to keep the football program pristine and untouched and that is why this has been swept under the carpet for years.

Well isn't that super-dee-dooper. I'll be rooting for the team that has had no members of the coaching or management staff cover up the rape of children.

The Big 10 and NCAA need to step in and start handing out sanctions. If Ohio State can be punished for some players trading property for tattoos the cover up of sexual crimes against children by multiple members of staff should probably cost them some scholarships and bowl eligibility.

Where's the applause smiley?

Really. I agree. As a Big Ten alum I say, who gives a crap?

Sandusky is apparently still associated with Second Mile, contrary to their recent statements:

The Second Mile is in the process of building a new 45,000-square-foot Learning Center at Bernel and Fox Hollow Roads. The $9 million project is receiving a $3 million state grant through Centre County. When discussing the project at a county commissioners’ meeting in January, Raykovitz said Sandusky was no longer involved in the day-to- day operations at the nonprofit.

“He still works with us with special events and things like that, but he’s not involved in the programs or anything that has to do with the project per se,” Raykovitz said.

One of the best ideas on handling the situation I've heard so far.

This, of course, in addition to a complete clean sweep of the entire program.

So glad to hear that Joe Paterno is GONE! The only thing better would be if they took his pension away from him and gave it to a charity to help abused children too.
I also think Penn State should end their football season NOW!
