Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE RESORT Information & Questions

So let me ask, going from 5 to 13 Nov- should we expect lingering Halloween decorations or some Christmas decorations but not a whole lot?

I went second week of November in 2014; definitely no Halloween decorations. The parks were more decorated than the hotel we were at, as well (Caribbean Beach)

DisneyDreamers3... if you didn't book both reservations (if you did they might of already done this but might not) call and ask for a group travel number. This tags both rooms with a number which will pull them at the same time when the room assignments are done. Call and ask them to put connecting rooms (know both of your reservation numbers) on the request also helps.

If you don't do this the chances of being close to each other is slim.

At one time I was hearing that they were going to bring back mugs with handles. Has anyone heard anything?

How advantageous is a corner room in your opinion? I don't want to overdo the requests and lessen our chances of getting our top priorities. If we request mansions area, it looks from the map like we will be in either Acadia or Magnolia buildings... are both fairly equal to you? Do I really need to request close to bus stop since it looks like both the mansion buildings are fairly close to a bus stop? This is the request I am considering:
1) Mansion building
2) Top floor
3)Quiet location (away from elevator or other noisy area)
4) Adjoining rooms
Debating whether I should add the corner room request or leave it be. Any other requests you think are important ones? Thanks so much!

I have the same question, so I'll be interested to see what others say. We are planning to stay in a RR as well. I have heard that adjoining can be harder to get in RR.

It's not a huge deal, but it's nice. You have 2 windows and you only have someone on one side of you. That's all.

Need some advice. My travel agent was originally going to do my room check in and room requests, but now I will be doing it for myself and my friend who is arriving a few days after us. We both have Royal Rooms at POR booked. When I go to online check in I only have three options (Corner, ground, highest floor). I don't see anything about building closest to bus stop, etc. Is this online check in different from room requests you fax in that I hear people talking about here? Without my TA's guidance I'm now a bit lost and after a falling out with the TA I won't be able to go back to them and get more answers.

Also, can anyone help me with what I should request that would give me the best chance of having my friend placed near me (adjoining would be ideal, but on the same floor or at least the same mansion would be fine too). Thanks!!!

Online checkin isn't much help for making specific requests, you need to call the reservations center in advance (assuming you are booked direct with Disney rather than though a commercial agent) and get your requests added onto the system. Make sure your two bookings are linked on the system at the same time. If you mean you'd like rooms with a connecting doorway, ask for CONNECTING rather than just adjoining (which merely means nearby).

Faxed requests can contain more detail and will go direct to the resort shortly before you arrive (3-5 days out is best) rather than just getting added to the computer booking. See the first post in the thread, or http://www.portorleans.org/room-requests.php, for more details on how to do this.

Do they have camp fires year round? I honestly couldn't tell from looking at past schedules. We will be there early Feb. Thanks!

4 days til we check in! We are so excited! We are not on the dining plan so were going to bring some reusable water bottles, I can fill those up in the food court with water, correct?

Correct. You should also have access to hot chocolate too if they have any.

The last 2 days of our stay last week, they ran out and the delivery trucks were not showing up....

Correct. You should also have access to hot chocolate too if they have any.

But I need the mug for coffee, correct? I think the adults are going to get the mugs for coffee and iced tea but the kids shouldn't need one as long as they have access to water since we are packing juice boxes.

Hello Everyone,

40 days and we check into our Royal Suite at POR. I was wondering, since we switched this to room only (we bought Annual Passes) is is possible to call them and pay it off now? I wanna put it all on my Disney Visa, then pay it off and then use that same Disney Visa at the parks....

Are you talking about the refillable mugs? I thought they always did have handles...

Can anyone update us on the Resort refillable mugs?
They changed the mugs recently. Some people enjoy the mugs without the handles because they are easier to put in cup carriers in car and strollers. Others, seem upset by the change. Reports are, cup carriers are being offered to assist with transporting the mugs back and forth to the rooms. You are welcome to bring some older mugs with handles and I guess they can reactivate them. However, I'm assuming that these are only the mugs that have the "chip" in them. A lot of people are upset about the change, according to the DIS boards, and there is even rumors that Disney is considering changing them back. Most recent news, there may be a few mugs with handles left for purchase, but most of the mugs available seem to be without handles.

But I need the mug for coffee, correct?

You should pay for coffee (and tea and hot chocolate) at the restaurant rather than stealing it, yes. That is either by using an active refillable mug or by paying at the counter and using the paper cup they give you.

However if you are asking if it is possible, there is no electronic tag check for the hot drinks or for iced tea, only for the cold soda-fountain dispenser drinks.
