Disney's new smoking policy (?)

Another "considerate smoker" heard from.

----------------------------

Inconsiderate how? Non-smokers wanted this policy - they got it - and now that they have it, they're still complaining.. Nothing inconsiderate about a smoker smoking in a DSA.. The "inconsiderate" party is the person stillcomplaining about it..

be careful what you wish for..
--------------------------

This is exactly what I said about a gazillion pages ago - and I also correctly predicted that no matter where they placed the DSA's, people would still complain about them..

LOL!! Once again be careful what you wish for. I have never smoked in a hotel room or indoors anywhere for that matter and very rarely smoke anywhere but on my balcony/patio when on vacation, it would be extremely unlikely that I would light up next to anyone at the pool or on a walkway but now that I can no longer smoke on the balcony I WILL be smoking next to you at the pool or on the walkways along with all the other smokers who would normally refrain from smoking around others. At least before you could avoid the cloud, seems like now you will be surrounded by it.

Sorry but this really amuses me with all the hip hoorays that were going on a couple of weeks ago.

Been thinking same thing. lol. some people are never satisfied.

Doesn't that depend on where the DSA is?
I mean, the smoker might not be inconsiderate as they're forced to smoke there, but if a DSA is right next to a pool or a wheelchair entrance or a person's room and they have to smell smoke, they might find that inconsiderate of their needs (placing the DSA where it is). Again, I haven't been there. This might not be a problem. I'd hope they'd have the DSA's where you won't be able to be affected by the smoke if you're in the pool, but I don't know how it is IRL yet.

I love all the considerate smokers on these boards. Based on all the posts, ALL the smokers here are considerate smokers. So where do all the inconsiderate smokers come from??

As I've stated before, when I smoked, I was a rude, inconsiderate smoker. This was back in the day when you could smoke anywhere, including the grocery store and the hospital. But I guess there are no inconsiderate smokers anymore (yes, the person who cussed me out for asking her not to smoke in the open corridor outside non-smoking rooms in a value resort told the security guard what a considerate smoker she was, too! :lmao: ).

Then that would be something that needs to taken up with Disney, not the smoker. He/she is just following the rules.

It is absolutely not inconsiderate of a smoker to smoke in the DSA no matter where it is located. It may be inconsiderate of Disney to place it there but the smoker is doing nothing but following the rules. From the looks of some of the maps the DSA's are right outside of the building entrances and all around the pools.

What was she doing wrong? I mean really she was following the rules, and at that time she was allowed to smoke there. She was not allowed to smoke in her room so she complied and smoked outside. So what was she doing wrong, besides annoying you? Did you really call a security guard because someone was smoking?

If all the smokers check out the maps and smoke in the dsa that would be great. If all the nonsmokers check out the maps then there should be no problem they can avoid the dsa. Simple as that I would imagine.

No, I called the front desk because I couldn't get into my room--the person who came to open my room called the security guard because the considerate smoker was yelling. Yup, it's very considerate to smoke in front of non-smoking rooms when somebody asks you not to. And considerate to yell and cuss about it, too. I'm just agreeing with you--as I said, smokers are all a considerate bunch.

It's especially considerate to not smoke around your kids, because it's so unhealthy y'know, but to go ahead and smoke around other non-smokers. Yes, that's the considerate thing to do.

I think it is very possible to create smoking areas in a way that doesn't impact non-smokers. I've seen it done various places where I was very satisfied with how it was handled. Unfortunately, I don't think what Disney has done (based on the reports as I haven't been there) meets that description.

For example, at McCarran airport in Las Vegas, there is a smoking lounge. It is fully enclosed and has separate ventilation. The smoke does not drift anywhere outside of the enclosure. At a hospital I used to work for, the smoking area was a very nice gazebo located about 50 feet from the building and fully enclosed and ventilated. People walking by or entering the building didn't have to go through a cloud to get in.

Even in the Atlantic City casinos, they are in the process of buidling fully enclosed and separately ventilated smoking areas.

That's the right way to do it. Just putting up a sign and some ashtrays in an open area near the entrance to a hotel isn't the right way.

This just keeps getting better and better!!:lmao: Bottom line is that WDW has designated smoking areas, and yes if it was a perfect world the smokers would use the DSA, but as PP's pointed out you are gonna find a small and I do mean small % of people still not following the rules. In that case I would bring it up to someone. That being said I think the non-smokers need to chill out and see how this policy and the new DSA are going to work out. Give me a break its just been five days! By the way this is coming from a NON-SMOKER!

Well if this person was yelling and making a scene then I definately agree that someone should have been called. Sounds like she was an inconsiderate person smoker or not. I never said it was considerate to smoke outside of someone's non-smoking room I simply pointed out that at that time she was technically allowed by Disney to smoke there. She may have even been instructed to smoke there, who knows.

Again I never said it was considerate to smoke around non-smokers, but seriously your comment doesn't make much sense. I could come right back and say that it's very inconsiderate of the non-smokers to invade my smoking space, but that doesn't really make much sense does it?

I find the complaints after the implementation of DSAs absolutely rediculous. They were asked for and given... and heck if you're here, you're not there to see how it is. Why get in a tizzy if you haven't even been there to see how it really is??? :confused3

You asked for all rooms to be non smoking... you got it!
You asked for the balconies to be smoke free... you got it!
You asked for there to be DSAs around the resorts... you got it!

Now you want to complain about where they are located???? What does the other side get? They have rights too... or did you forget? I'm guessing if all the DSAs were located in the back of the parking lots you'd still be miffed because all the spots were taken and that's where you HAD to park...

I totally agree w/ this :thumbsup2

I agree 100% give it a rest and lets see how this plays out! Like I said earlier its just been 5 DAYS!!

Despite what I said above, I think what Disney has done is fantastic and I applaud them for doing so. Is it the perfect solution? No, but it is a huge step in the right direction. Will there still be complaints? Probably, because there will probably stil be times when non-smokers are affected by smoking on property. But it certainly has to be way better than it was before, assuming most smokers follow the new rules.

I agree. And I am actually shocked when I look at the POR map at how few smoking areas they have. My parents are going with me to Disney in October, and my mom smokes. Looking at the map, they have one smoking area for a cluster of 4 or 5 buildings. It is like Disney decided all the smokers are overweight and need to have to hike too! Oh well, I did what I could an had my TA put in a request to be near a smoking area. Hopefully Disney will try to accomodate people, or I can see some not making the effort to go to the smoking areas. And lets face it, if they police the smoking in the resorts as well as they do the smoking in the parks, it will not matter much.

I agree. I say see how it works out before everyone gets their knickers in a bunch. Sure, there will probably be a few people who don't follow the new rules, but why not also give credit to all of the smokers who are smoking in the DSA's.

I'm a non-smoker, and never have smoked, but some people are just being plain ridiculous regarding this subject.

In that case, it would be Disney - and their placement of the DSA - who would be the inconsiderate party - still not the smoker..

I'm not sure why people find that so difficult to understand..:confused3
