Disney's BOARDWALK INN Information & Questions

That sounds awesome.

As a side note relating to YC and dining in the BW area, I saw that the executive chef at Yachtsman's Steakhouse (Daniel Sicilia I think is the right spelling) moved on about a month ago to now run Jiko. I think he directly transformed YS from getting poor reviews to be the best signature on property (note: never been to V&A, but that's different anyway.). So I really hope YS doesn't slip now that he's gone. And I'm interested to see what he does with Jiko! We made a reservation for our December trip, and dropped Akershus. No princesses this trip. :)

Does this make you want to try Jiko? It's a first, but I actually don't have any ADRs this solo trip. I did wonder if I'd get a hankering for YS while at BC, but I could just try a walk-up or the lounge next door has many of the same dishes. I'm really winging it this trip - living' on the edge!

Hi everyone! Put me down for the BOG list for 10/7-10/14. I'm taking a girl's trip with my sister and bff. My sister hasn't been to Disney since she was pretty young so I am super excited to show her the fun at Disney as an adult! I got really lucky and found a great deal renting points for a preferred studio in the villas. My only trepidation is the creepy clown pool :scared1: We all keep teasing each other about the possibility of getting a room facing the pool and having the clown eyes glowing through the window. Hopefully we'll get a courtyard view but we'll have a blast no matter what. The location is what really sold me. Walking distance to Epcot during F&W? Yes please!

I think BoG might be BC/YC, but I hope the BoardWalk Bulletin will do:). Sounds like it'll be a fun trip with DS.

Coming to the BWI for a quick weekend trip 9/16-18! Going to the opening weekend of Food&Wine and hoping it won't be crazy pants.

Don't forget your crazy pants suspenders! I'll log your dates.

Hey Everyone! We will be arriving to the BWV next month!:banana: We are currently booked in a 1 Bedroom Villa Standard View. I don't know if any of those rooms have a "possible" view of the ToT, but that's what I would love to have! So my question is, if their are rooms with that view, can you tell me what you requested to get that room or what room number was it? And if that view doesn't exist, what is a good standard view room request? Pictures always welcome! :-) Thanks!

Bumping your question and welcome to the thread!

We're back from an amazingly wonderful visit to BWI CL. It is by far our favorite resort on Disney property - there's just something about it that none of us can quite articulate, but it feels like home.

We checked in about 8:30am at the front desk. The CM was very nice and escorted us up to the 4th floor where we did our check in with Jackie. We've not been back to BWI CL in 3 years (we have DVC so we often are on the villas side) but we remembered Jackie and it was so so so nice to see her again :)

We were celebrating DS's 6th birthday and the experience exceeded our expectations. We were at YC CL in June and while it was very nice and we enjoyed Stormalong Bay, especially with unusually warm weather for early June, the BWI was far superior an experience for us. The CMs at BWI CL are the absolute best. We are extroverts (our kids are 9 and 6 and love interacting with the CMs) and we just really enjoyed chatting with the CMs in the lounge, telling them about our day etc. While all the CMs were out of this world, Jackie, Andrew, Anita and Linda went above and beyond for us. One day, we were surprised with a delivery of cupcakes to the room for DS's birthday :)

The food offerings were great, but the food is only a part of why we like CL. I really do love having breakfast readily available in the morning as I think it's a nice way to start our day without the stress of having to find a place before we go to the parks. CL for us is an experience - the lounge is a great place to hang out, chat with other guests (we met some really great people this time!), have some appetizers and a glass of wine. We love the service we get from the CMs and feel that it's the whole package, not just the food for us.

The exterior renovations are ongoing, but in no way impacted our good time.

The kids were really sad to leave and so were we - we'll be back for sure!

Thank you for posting your little TR, @kpm76. I hope you get to return to the Innkeeper's Club real soon.

Oh my gosh.... I'm so excited!! We leave for BWV in about 2 weeks... thinking about room requests. We are traveling with my parents and we each have 1 studio, garden/pool view. I'm thinking of trying for the NE facing rooms on an upper floor on the north building, overlooking the village green, hoping we can get adjacent or close studios in that area. I guess the question is, is there any outside construction going on on the village green side? Sounds like it's mostly by the pool areas now.

Bumping your question and wishing you a wonderful trip!

We are staying in a Grand Villa in October.
We are looking forward to great accommodations and a short walk to EPCOT for the wine and food Festival. party:

Sounds like a great villa and location for F&W.

Don't know if I would concur with YS being the best signature on property, but yes, it is very good. We haven't been to Jiko in 6 years? It was probably in our top 3 signatures on property, but somehow riding a bus over to AKL from the Boardwalk seems to be just a bother, especially since there are so many terrific choices right there in walking distance. I always wished there would be some sort of special transportation to/from AKL to AK, my thought was something similar to a ski lift, which would make traveling over there a better option.

Haven't received any construction updates for our January-Feb trip thank goodness. I have been checking the mail like a madman lately though. My oldest daughter is usually the one who checks it after we get home, but I've been doing it lately. They don't know we booked our Disney Vacation, but I know they always send a Incredibles vacation booklet confirming your stay. Thankfully it came on Saturday afternoon and the wife checked the mail. She grabbed it and threw it into her purse while the kids were in the car LOL

Has anyone gotten a sense with all of the construction whether or not the pool will wind up unavailable at any point this fall/winter? I can handle the updating and painting (I think), but my kids desperately want a pool with a slide (even with a clown ). We love having easy access to Epcot so we know we want to stay at one of the EP resorts, but after doing a week at GF when they were under major construction, we realized that our $$ didn't go as far and our experience wasn't what it could have been. Thanks in advance!

When the BWI pool was closed for renovation in the past, guests were given access to Stormalong Bay at YC/BC! Time gets away from me, but I believe this was within the last year to 18 months.

It did not seem like that much work by the pool. It seemed like they were putting up fencing. I think I had read somewhere that all the pools would be eventually getting fencing around them for safety reasons.

I just got back from a 5 night stay at BW villas. We stayed in a one bedroom - Room 2102 (main floor) - The room was amazing. I did not see any construction going on with the exception of the front of the hotel. We had a great view of the Star Wars fire works - Luckily my daughter slept through the noise. We were able to enjoy a nice glass of wine on the balcony while we watched.

Thanks--we found Stormalong Bay ok when we stayed at BC, but the slide was too intense for my youngest, and the rest of the pool complex was too crowded and spread out for our taste--nothing awful, but we prefer a more contained pool space. Also, I know the inconvenience of walking across the bay would not appeal to my husband if we wanted to swim. I thought I had read that they were changing the clown face of the BW pool to a Mickey face at some point (certainly not a verified claim yet) and I figured that would necessitate a pool closure.

I think this was for the best. We've had to do it before and didn't regret moving. Being ill on vacation is the worst so I'm really glad your DD's condition improved without emergency intervention.

This is just speculation, but I think they're putting up a fence, @mateojr. All of the pools will have them eventually, like WL and Poly have.

HERE is the link to an interesting 3-part blog by Jack Spence about the history of BWI/BWV. Part 3 covers the Luna Park pool which was modeled after a circus. I've also added the link to POST 1. The links to the next part is at the end of each blog entry:)

Well, the water view at YC/BC can, in some cases, also be a pool view. At BWI, the water view is of Crescent Lake only and a STD view can have a pool view. A STD view at YC/BC does not include a pool, garden or canal view like at BWI. Their SV rooms primarily overlook the parking lot area at the front of the resort.

Thank you for posting an update and advice for everyone.

They all have a daybed which is about the size of a twin and a few have a king bed instead of two queens. To get a (queen) sofa bed/sleeper sofa, you would need to book a Deluxe CL room.

Thank you for posting the update!

Just adding that sometimes this is in fact true and sometimes the CMs are told not to discuss certain things with guests.

2017? Well, this is a new twist.

villa rehab is supposed to be wrapping up any day now, I believe. However, exterior work is being done around BWI/BWV, that may be going on through 10/31 or into next year, I'm confused about that. One poster was told 10/31 when they called and another poster received a construction letter for their 1 thanks WDWKOOK

I received one for a Jan 29 arrival.

I am staying marathon week at BWV and booked our villa about a month ago. I got the Incredibles book earlier this week and the construction letter today. The construction letter is in a standard size envelope and the return address is Disney Destinations, just so you know what you're watching for.

Appreciate that heads up, I haven't seen anything come across the mailbox with the Disney Destinations just yet, but I'll keep my eyes peeled

It's a very non descript envelope. I thought maybe it was going to be info about renewing my AP, since the renewal window opens later this month. There wasn't anything about it that screams "vacation booked".

One of our favorite things to do was catch the movie under the stars out on the lawn on our way back from Epcot. Are they still doing it outside or did they move it inside now? I know that some resorts have moved it in, but not all. Hoping it is still outside!

So I know Boardwalk does not have a lot of CS options, but it says on the Leaping Horse Libations Disney page they are open to 9. Does this mean we can order dinner by the pool one night?

We haven't been there since last December, but I think a lot of the places that moved indoors were the ones by beach areas because of the obvious reason. With the BW layout, it's a little different. I would hope they would keep it outdoors, even though we never actually watch the movies. :) it's still a neat concept.

When we were there in July they still had movie night on the lawn.

A ski lift would be interesting. :) the resorts aren't really that far from each other. We'll take a cab, it won't be that expensive. You're right, doing the two-method Disney transportation would be a big pain in the rear. We've been to Jiko before, especially the two times we stayed at AKL. (It's actually our second home property, but we use those points when we stay at other areas like BLT or the Poly this spring.). We liked Jiko, but it would probably be towards the lower end of the signature list for us. But it'll be nice to make an evening out of it, and get there early and hang with the animals at the overlook. We cancelled Akershus for Jiko, so it's giraffes instead of princesses. Oh well! :rotfl2:

I have no idea if the pool bar (Leaping Horse) does QS meals. Assuming the Boardwalk Bakery is open, I think you can use QS options there. Also, the Boardwalk pizza window has a couple options - individual QS meal (slice, side) or combine QS credits and get a whole pizza(s).

Like I said, 6 years since our last stay at AKV and Jiko dinner. But, it was one of our favorite signatures. Great food, environment, & service. The chef at the time gave us (and I'm sure others) complimentary cauliflower soup and it was terrific.

Giraffes for princesses? In searching thru Disney pictures on my phone, I have more pictures of princesses than giraffes, so I guess we know what exotic attraction I'm looking at? :lmao:
