We just got back from the Disney Wonder 5 night cruise to Key West, Nassau and Castaway Cay. This was our 4th cruise with Disney, out first 5 night cruise. We have done the 3 night, 4 night and 7 night cruise in the past. This was the first time I was somewhat disappointed with portions of the cruise.
We arrived at the terminal and boarded in the typical fashion. Because it wasn't 1:30pm yet, we went topside to have lunch at the Beach Blanket Buffet. Lunch was great and soon after our room was ready. We settled in and afterwards went back to the top deck for the big departure party. Last time at the party they provided everyone red and blue hand pom poms to wave during the party, but this time only the staff had them. I found out after the Disney has cut back and doesn't hand them out any more.
We had an early seating at dinner, and we were a family of 3 that was placed at our own table. We were a little disappointed that we weren't placed at a table with others, but we were initially assigned to the later dinner and when they made the change this was the only table available. Service was defiantly not the usual Disney standard. Even after 5 nights of me and my daughter ordering the same drink, the assistant server would still ask us what we wanted to drink. All the dinners seemed very rushed and didn't leave seem to leave time for the servers to interact much with the guests. I even asked the second night why they were both so quiet, and I was told by the Head Server that the main guy who ran the dining room told them to quickly serve the guests and get them out because they are probably tired. My last comment about dinner has to do with Pirate Night. Here again Disney has cut back and doesn't give the bandanas they use to on past cruises.
Most of the shore excursions were good with the exception of the Key West Dolphin Watch, Kayak and Snorkel. It defiantly wasn't what was described in the Disney brochure. Although they did find Dolphin, the Kayak was next to an island that we couldn't get close to due to the tide being too low and the snorkel was not near a sunken ship, it was over a bed of grass with maybe 5 fish swimming the whole time in 1-4 feet of water.
Disney added two new shows to the cruise which we were very excited about seeing, the first was Toy Story which was excellent and the Second was called Once Upon a Song. It was described as a collection of Disney songs sung by the cast. The complaint I had about this show was that none of the songs were popular Disney Songs that you or any children in the audience would sing.
All in all it was still a good cruise, but defiantly not the Disney standard that we have been accustomed to!!!!
