If you'd like to join, please post the following information and be sure to subscribe to this thread to receive updates:

-- DISboard username
-- Cabin # (if you know it already)
-- Family Last Name (helps with personalizing family gifts)
-- First names of those participating, ages of kids in cabin and whether boys (B) or girls (G)
-- Favorite Disney character for each of the people in your cabin, if any (this helps if people make gifts specific to the people in the room)
-- Any special cruise celebrations
-- Any food allergies, etc

If you are uncomfortable posting any of the personal information, you can simply say "Adult, Male" or "Girl, 8" for example.

For those who are new to this fun cruise experience, the Fish Extender itself is a pocket panel you hang from the fish shaped hook outside your stateroom. These can be homemade or purchased you can also find some pictures on Google or DIS forums for ideas. Families that join the FE group hang the Fish Extender outside their cabin and then exchange little gifts with others participating in the group by putting little gifts in each others extenders.

According to everyone I have talked to, it's a ton of fun, not just for kids, and you can either give one gift to each cabin, or a gift to each person in the cabin. You can give gifts a few times throughout the cruise or just once. No real set rules, just exchange and have fun! Gifts can be homemade or store bought. That's part of the fun . . . the variety of gifts that everyone brings!

Also, you might bring a couple of zip ties to help attach your FE. Some people have commented, unfortunately, that theirs have walked away. BUT thats a lot less likely if its attached with a zip tie (just dont forget scissors or clippers to cut the zip tie when you're going home!)

All gifts should be delivered between the cruise leaving port on Friday, January 31 and Sunday, February 2.

Our group will close December 31st (1 month prior to sail date). This allows people plenty of time to order, make, assemble, personalize, etc their gifts. Thank you!!

Just booked a SPH stateroom on the Disney Magic for January 31, 2014 and noticed there were no threads for this date on the DCL meet page. This will be our second Disney cruise for our family. We sailed on the Dream last February. DS age 11 and DD age 5. This will be a week long split park/cruise vacation. We took advantage of the Stay,Play Dine package and are staying at Pop and booked the cruise with the 20% Canadian Resident discount. Looking forward to seeing pictures of the updated Magic. Can't wait! Who else is going?

I have added your thread to the cruise meet list :beach:
Have a great cruise!

Hello fellow cruisers! My DH (Dave) and I will be cruising with you! I was wondering if anyone else was cruising with us - LOL - about three months away and no thread had been started. I have been on 18 DCL cruises; DH - 15. Our first cruise was on the Magic in 1999 - she is my favorite! Only ship we haven't been on yet is the Fantasy. We will board the Fantasy on 11/1/14 with several other DIS friends - all from Michigan.

Our original plan for January-February 2014 was to cruise b2b on the Wonder (9 days); then b2b on the Magic (7 days). We were booked on one of the two January Wonder cruises DCL cancelled a few weeks ago. We made lemonade out of lemons and our vacation plans are now: Driving from Michigan and staying 2 nights at DVC Vero Beach resort before boarding the Magic on 1/27. We stay on board for the 1/31 and 2/3 cruises. Post cruise we head north to St. Augustine for two days, then DVC Hilton Head for 4 days. Then we stop in West Virginia to visit 2 of our 6 grandkids. Then, back to our home in Michigan.

cyberjyd - I love the SPH cabins! :thumbsup2 Great bargain as you are getting a partial ocean view for the price of a deluxe inside. We are in those often as well as sideways rooms - which we are in for all the upcoming Magic cruises. We'll be on deck 5, as well.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you! Have a great weekend!

We just booked our cruise, myself and DD (9), along with my sister and her DS and DD (both 14). We can't wait! Is there a fish extender or Facebook group for this cruise?? Just learning to navigate the DIS boards. Any tips and tricks fro the cruise are welcome! We are very excited!

I haven't seen any Facebook groups for our sailing date. There is another group on CruiseCritic.com community forum but like this thread it is fairly quiet. On my previous cruise last February there was a FB group with a list of people doing the Fish Extenders. We did not participate in the FE but we did see quite a few staterooms with them. We did decorate our door with magnets. There are several posts on Disboards showing you how to make your own magnet designs for your stateroom door. If you do a search you should be able to find a thread on it. Just make sure you use magnets and not stickers on the doors! If anyone wants to start a Fish Extender list by all means go ahead. Let me know if I need to do anything to update the list.

I would be willing to start it, but not exactly sure how. do I just start a new thread?? my daughter is totally wanting to do FE and it seems super fun!

We can keep the FE list on this thread. I get an email every time there is a post and can update the list near the top of the first page for easy access. From the other groups I see that they are requesting for:
Stateroom number
Disboard name
Real names of everyone in stateroom
Age and gender of each kids
Any celebration (e.g. birthday, anniversary)
We will also need a deadline for the list. Maybe a few weeks before cruise to give people enough time to prepare for the exchange. If I forgot anything let me know so I can update this thread.

We are really interested in taking part in the fish extender fun, so I'll get things started for this cruise.

If you are uncomfortable posting any of the personal information, you can simply say "Adult, Male" or "Girl, 8" for example. IS THERE ANYONE WHO WOULD BE ABLE TO KEEP A MASTER LIST for all families? We can set a cut off of December 31 for families to join.

I think you and I are the only cruisers on the Cruise critic site. My CC screen name is Granana.

I just searched for our cruise date on FB, but could not fine one.

I was starting to think my husband and I would be the only 2 people on the ship. I am so excited to see there are other people. I have been checking the facebook groups weekly to see if a page had been started.pirate:

I just started a fb group for our sailing. It should show up if you search January 31, 2014 Disney Magic.

Welcome, Beth!

I just searched for the FB page and got "no results". Could you post a link?

Thanks!

Jan
