Looks like Disney is moving full throttle on the Star Wars sequels. Kasdan was one of the writers for "The Empire Strikes Back".

Disney has hired Star Wars alum Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg as potential writers for “subsequent installments" of the Star Wars film franchise.

The force is strong with writers Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg. That’s the word on the street, anyway.

After Disney hired Michael Arndt to write the next installment of George Lucas’ Star Wars franchise, the company has hired Star Wars alum Kasdan and Kinberg as potential writers for “subsequent installments mapped out by Lucas,” according to The Hollywood Reporter, L.A. Biz reports.

The pair will produce the films with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, and will write either Episode 8 or Episode 9, but it has yet to be determined how their responsibilities will be divided.

On Oct. 30, Disney acquired San Francisco-based Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion. In addition to the new movies, Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Co., said the franchise will have a presence in Disney theme parks, potentially having a big impact for Orlando.

What we need is a good Star Wars movie written well by good writers. Maybe this series can become like James Bond, 22 well loved movies over 50 years.

Disney is taking the right steps to make that happen.

james bond is a good analogy...

there are ALOT of stinkers in there...but they managed to right the ship and recenter around the different actors.

I have not seen the new one...but Goldeneye and Casino Royale are great movies of recent era...actually elevated the franchise.

then you have garbage like quantum of solace and die another day...so that's the dull edge of the sword.

IF we can get a good, solid, "B" level story that has some broad appeal and ties things back to the 70's-80's flicks...then they have a winner and can erase alot of the smudge of the "prequel" era.

Anyone else notice over the holiday weekend that Rick McCallum (slinger of cinematic garbage and lucas co-conspirator) quietly "retired" shortly before the acquisition?

That sounds like " Here's your gold mickey watch...but there's no seat on the ship for you"

GOOD MOVE:thumbsup2
