Great Trip Report! We sail on The Fantasy Eastern Caribbean December 14th!

How do you request a dining rotation in advance? I would love to have our Formal Night in the Royal Palace.

Thank you! I asked our travel agent to request it for us, but I believe if you aren't using an agent you can call DCL directly and put the request in yourself. They will give you the spiel, it's only a request, there are no guarantees, etc. but I think they try really hard to give people what they asked for. :thumbsup2

    Enjoying your TR. Great pictures!

We did the western itinerary on the Fantasy this past Oct, and sailed the eastern with another cruise line this past April. Your TR brings back great memories of both of our 2013 cruises, one for the ship and the other for the ports. :cool1:

Did you go on your own on the islands? I'm trying to decide what we'll do that's fairly inexpensive (at least compared to DCL's excursions), especially St Thomas/St John - I've been to St Maarten before and frankly wasn't impressed, so we'll probably just visit quickly for DF's sake!

Yep, none of the excursions Disney offered really held any appeal to us so we just went on our own. We had contemplated Bernard's tours while on St. Maarten, but it was the same as with Disney, too much time at things we didn't have an interest in. We really didn't want a ton of beach time because we knew we'd be at the beach most of the day on Castaway Cay so we just found a few things that interested us, like the Fort and Maho Beach (for the airplanes) and did those. Taxis were easy to find and not very expensive, especially if you could share with other people, which we did twice. In St. Thomas we just walked because we never left the immediate Port vicinity, but again, taxis were plentiful, they would ask us as we were walking down the sidewalk if we needed a ride.

If we did this itinerary again, we'd definitely do more than shop in St. Thomas, but for our first trip we were content with our choices. :)

I had every intention of being up in time to watch the sunrise this morning, but apparently my Nook, which I was using as an alarm, adjusted for daylight savings time even though the ship hadn't yet. I was still up early though and since Brian was still asleep I went out to the verandah and read for a little while. It was so peaceful and quiet out there and I loved how blue the world looked at that time of morning.

I never got tired of looking at the water, it was beautifully mesmerizing.

Being on the back of the ship this was a constant view, and I loved it!

I've seen a lot of people ask about the views from the aft verandahs if you are sitting down, here you go, it's still pretty fantastic.

I almost fell back asleep it was so calming outside, but I remembered the Oceaneer's Club was having an open house at 9 that morning and I wanted to go check it out. It looked so cute in the pictures I've seen so I wanted to see it myself. I got dressed and headed out but along the way my tummy decided it was very hungry, so I detoured up to Cabanas to get a little something. We had Palo Brunch at 11:30 so I just had a hashbrown and a sausage link to calm the beast, then continued on to the club.

These sausages were so good! My stomach kept saying eat more, but my mind won out, had to save room for Palo in a couple of hours.

As I mentioned before, we don't have children, but I can't imagine any child not loving these clubs! They were darling and seemed like so much fun. While I was there Goofy was leading the little ones in some fun dances and each room seemed like it would be endless hours of play time. My imagination would have run wild in this place when I was a kid. Even the bathrooms were adorable.

I loved that you could actually play with the "toys", slinky dog was a tunnel, you could climb on Rex, Ham had coins you could put in him and Mr. Potato Head was a giant size version of the real toy.

After I was done looking around the club I made my way back to the atrium area and took a few more photos, I got some of the artwork that was on deck 5 this time around. Some really pretty ones with the Princesses and Fairies.

I also really liked these giant paintings that were at the base of many of the staircases, this was one of my favorites, it showcased forms of transportation throughout the years.

I thought this would be a good time to walk through the Europa section as well and get some pictures while it wasn't crowded.

After my Europa tour I made my way back to our room to see if Brian was up yet. He was so we decided to go start a game of the Midship Detective Agency before brunch. We went to the station on deck 2 thinking it might be less crowded, we were wrong! After a few minutes though it was our turn to begin our game, it wasn't meant to be though. We tried 6 different cards and every time it said the card was already in use in another game. We gave up and decided to try again later because at this point it was almost time to head to Palo! We had to go back to the room first so Brian could change, and stopped for a couple of pictures along the way.

We arrived a few minutes early and were asked to wait in Meridian, the bar that sits between Palo and Remy. It has a very Gentlemen's Club feel to it with it's leather, high back chairs, luggage straps on the sofas, map outlines on the windows, cigar case and bar.

After a few minutes someone from Palo came and got us, and we were led to our table, which was right next to the windows and had a gorgeous view.

Our waiter, Martin, came shortly after we were seated and brought us water and complimentary mimosas. Then he lead us up to the buffet and explained the selections and the hot items we could order.

After our tour he left us to make our choices from the buffet. My first plate was, chocolate bread, olive bread, Italian meats, an assortment of cheeses, olives, asparagus wrapped in proscuitto with hollandaise sauce, and a mini eggplant parmesan. Everything was delicious.

Brian's first plate looked a lot like mine, this is his second with some shrimp, scallops and this yummy cheese that was like a soft cheddar with chives in it. We both loved it. I didn't take a picture, but I also tried the caviar. Since it was there I figured, why not! Definitely not for me! :rotfl:

    Cruise 2013 392 by princessm112877, on Flickr

We ordered the famous Chicken Parmesan and while it was VERY good, it was lacking a bit of seasoning for my taste. I'd eat it again with no complaints as long as I had a bit of salt to add to it. I actually liked the risotto better than the chicken.

    Cruise 2013 401 by princessm112877, on Flickr

We also ordered the lasagna, now this was hype worthy to us. Hands down the best lasagna either of us has ever had, and I make a pretty killer lasagna myself.

    Cruise 2013 403 by princessm112877, on Flickr

We got a half & half pizza to share as well. One half was spicy Italian sausage and the other half was the grape & gorgonzola. The spicy sausage lived up to it's name, and the grape/gorgonzola while sounding odd, was actually quite good.

    Cruise 2013 402 by princessm112877, on Flickr

We got similar plates of desserts, passion fruit cheesecake, chocolate pot de creme, tiramisu, and the little chocolate cake is escaping me at the moment...

We thoroughly enjoyed our brunch at Palo and left so full we wondered if we would even be able to eat dinner that night!

Oh my gosh, I was so excited to find your trip report!!! We were also on the Nov. 2nd Fantasy sailing, in room 7180 and Vivek was our room attendant! My 3 year old daughter LOVED him! He always popped his head out whenever he heard us leave or come back. This was our first DCL cruise and it was a trip of a lifetime!!!! I enjoy reliving our trip through your report! :cool1:

P.S. You and your camera take beautiful pictures. What kind of camera were you using?

Wow, we were practically neighbors! Did you feel the ship moving as much as we did? Craziness at times! It was definitely an amazing trip though, we probably won't go again for a couple of years but we're already looking forward to the next one! We're contemplating trying for Alaska in 2016 if they are still sailing there at that time.

Vivek really was such a sweetheart! We were always running into him in the halls and he would ask us how our day had been or tell us to enjoy dinner, etc.

Thanks so much for the sweet picture comment, I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ20. I haven't had it that long and am still learning how to use all the settings. A nice man I met when I was trying to take some pictures of a pretty non-existent sunset actually gave me a quick tutorial in some of the manual settings! People can be so nice!

I hope you enjoy the rest of my report. I took a break from it today to spend some time with my husband on his day off, but I'll be back at it tomorrow! :goodvibes

We definitely were rocked to sleep the first six nights. The last night I woke up at midnight and it felt like the ship was about to tip over.

After our delicious brunch we rolled ourselves back to the room to change clothes and attend the shopping seminar in the Buena Vista Theatre.

    Cruise 2013 411 by princessm112877, on Flickr

I have mixed feelings about the shopping seminar. It was informative, we weren't sure what we might want to buy in port so we went just to get an idea of what was out there. It ran a little long for me but I think part of my problem was the seats in the BVT recline when you sit in them, and that makes trying to look at the stage, plus all the pamphlets you're given at the beginning kind of hard. In order to not recline you had to forcibly sit up straight and it just wasn't really comfortable to me. It probably would have been great for watching a movie.

I was also interested in getting the cruise ship charm that they were giving away for attending, but I ended up disappointed in that too. We had to stand in line for nearly an hour after the seminar because they took so much time with people wanting the VIP passes, which was great for those people, but I just wanted the charm. A separate line for people just wanting the charm would have been nice, maybe someone standing at the exit handing them out and directing you to the other line if you wanted the VIP passes also. Then after all of that the plating on my charm chipped off before the cruise was even over, and one of the charms I got from Diamonds International won't fit on the bracelet because the opening on the clasp isn't wide enough. :(

We had planned to see the matinee showing of Aladdin, but after standing in line so long we missed about 20+ minutes of it, so we just skipped it and went back to the room for awhile. We started to watch Brave but both of us fell asleep. When we woke up I did my hair and makeup for formal night and we went down to the theatre to see our regular showing of Aladdin. This show was just alright to us too. I think it would have been a lot better had they not made the Genie so over the top corny. I love a stupid joke, but his were just not good for the most part and he came off as obnoxious and annoying. Other than Genie we liked it, the magic carpet ride segment was my favorite, I'd love to take a spin on that thing! :drive:

After the show we went back to the room to don our formal attire then proceeded to the atrium for pictures. Lines were outrageous when we got there. This was the exact reason I had wanted to see the matinee of the show so we could get in line for pictures earlier. We ended up only being able to get the grand staircase in our formal wear because after 40 minutes in line it was time to go to dinner. This was a lesson learned for sure, and later in the week when it was time for semi-formal night we stuck to the plan, matinee show, early for pictures, and we got every location we wanted in less time than it took to get that one picture on formal night. At least we did get one good one though.

Our dinner tonight was in Enchanted Garden, such a lovely restaurant. Our table wasn't in the best location here though, it was in a back corner right next to one of the serving stations, and really the only problem with that was it was hard to get in and out of if you were the ones sitting in the middle or next to the station because it was so enclosed. One of the couples at our table was at Palo that evening so we had a nice time getting to know the other couple a little better.

    Brian had the Lobster Ravioli

I had the Romaine Wedge for my soup/salad course ~ Fresh crisp Romaine topped with a creamy Romano Dressing and homemade spiced Croutons. Brian had tomato soup but I didn't get a picture of it for some reason.

    Cruise 2013 469 by princessm112877, on Flickr

Marjoram Scented Organic Chicken ~ Half a Chicken served with Baked Sweet Potatoes and Sautéed Baby Spinach (I got regular mashed potatoes instead of sweet). This was also very tasty, it was a huge portion though and I couldn't finish it.

    Cruise 2013 473 by princessm112877, on Flickr

Brian had Slow Roasted Prime Rib, Thyme-roasted Vegetables, Double-baked Potato, Horseradish, and Natural Jus.

    Cruise 2013 474 by princessm112877, on Flickr

For my dessert I had the Sweet Temptations ~ Strawberry cheesecake, Esterhazy Cake, and Sacher torte. I really liked all three of these.

    Cruise 2013 475 by princessm112877, on Flickr

Brian had the Bananas Foster Sundae

    Cruise 2013 476 by princessm112877, on Flickr

Then they brought out another plate of goodies to share, passion fruit gelee, and chocolate truffles. Both were good but I had already had too much to eat so I just had one of each to try them.

    Cruise 2013 477 by princessm112877, on Flickr

After dinner was over we went back to the room and changed (seems like we did a lot of changing today), then went up to Currents for a little while. Brian had a beer, and I had a glass of Moet & Chandon Ice. It started to rain so we just stayed there for a bit and chatted with a couple of the bartenders. Baboo in particular was really great, a lot of stories to tell and always remembered you when he saw you again. The rain began to let up a little bit so we decided it was time to make a dash for the elevator so we could get back down to the Walt Disney Theatre to see the Adult Ventriloquist show with Lynn Trefzger. We laughed our butts off, she was great.

We went down to La Piazza after the show to check out the snacks. I really don't know why, we were so beyond stuffed. We still managed to find room for some more olives and chicken nuggets though. We walked it off on deck 4 and then went back the room. Brian started watching Man of Steel while I wrote in my trip journal.

Our towel animal tonight was a dinosaur! A brontosaurus perhaps?

I know it probably seems like I did a lot of complaining about things today, but they were just observations and lessons learned. It was our first cruise and now that I know how certain things work I'll be sure to do them differently next time. We still had a wonderful day! :thumbsup2

Hi, I'm loving your report! Your dress on formal night was just simply gorgeous. You rocked it! I don't think you sound like you're complaining too much. Just seems like you're being honest about the crowds so us newbies know what's to come. Can't wait to read more....

    Thanks for joining in everyone!

Susan121302 ~ Thanks so much for the compliment on my dress. Not bad for $39 from Burlington Coat Factory! I couldn't believe how hard it was to find a floor length "gown" in a plus size!
