Hello!

I am very new to DisBoards, and DCL as a matter of fact, but I would LOVE to participate in an FE exchange on our cruise and I notice that there is as of yet no thread for the July 11th, 2016 4 night cruise on the Disney Dream. SO, even thought I'm new at this, I'm starting a thread! I hope others will join in and we can get an FE group going! Also, I hope that someone who HAS cruised DCL before and knows what they are doing will join this thread so I don't have to keep making things up as I go along.

OK, you've done well starting this thread. Now, copy the URL at the top of this page and head over to the "Find you 2016 Dream Cruise Meet LINK here" thread to post a request to have your link added to the first post there. Be sure to paste the copied URL into the request post. Then a moderator will add your link and others looking for your cruise meet thread will be able to find it.

Hi there... I too was trying to post a meet link... Glad u figured it out... There is a small Facebook group... Hoping they will join us here and we can set up a fish extender group. Normally 10-15 families per group will exchange small items etc... We do it every cruise it's so fun! Some groups require more crafty, homemade exchanges, others we exchange something from our home towns/ areas. Few groups close about 2 months before cruise to allow u time to make enough... Plan enough for the group etc. will check here in few days to see if anyone else is joining us!!!

Just booked our 2nd cruise a few days ago....can't wait to check out the Dream!

I would be interested in doing the exchange also- I will check back in later

I was trying to find the Facebook page-would you mind posting the link?

Have you ever set one up personally? from the reading/googling/pinteresting I've done it looks like most groups have someone start a file or document? or do they just have people post things directly to a thread like this one? I'm willing to set it up but I just don't know exactly how that works, also, not sure if there are particular rules on DisBoards that I would need to be careful of in doing so?

SETTING UP A FE GROUP
It appears there are a number of you who are interested in a Fish Extender group. There isn’t one currently set up here on DISboards. Here’s a little write up on how FE groups are set up:

There really are no “rules” as to how a FE program runs. Basically someone will step up and say “I’ll maintain the list”. This means they maintain the list of those who wish to participate. The group can decide on what information is necessary to produce FE gifts. A basic list may only have DISname/room number/number of people in the room. A more involved list could be first & last names/ages/room number/ favorite character/ favorite color/allergies/whatever is deemed necessary to know in order to create the gifts. Also a decision can be made as to size of FE group. Some groups break out the list(s) at 10-15 rooms max, so that there are multiple lists (and some people will participate in more than one list). Other groups just make one big list (upwards of 20-30 rooms).

The easiest, most private way to handle the information necessary to prepare the list (many people prefer not to put sensitive information on a public forum), is to use the “Conversation” feature here. There needs to be at least two people to start a conversation. Only the starter of the conversation (usually the organizer) can add additional people into the conversation (as long as they do NOT select “Allow anyone in the conversation to invite others” at the bottom of the reply window). Then when new people express a desire to join, usually by just saying “we want to join the FE”, the organizer can add them by clicking on the “Invite more” button in the “Conversation Participants” window (lower right of conversation page). Only those people participating in the conversation can see what’s posted there, and respond there. I will also note, to participate in conversations, everyone needs to have at least 10 posts. For those who wish to use this option for private conversations that don’t have 10 posts yet, head over to the Test Board to post and up your post count. http://www.disboards.com/forums/test-board.88/

Up to 20 people can participate in any given conversation.

At some point the list will “close”. Typically this happens 30-45 days out from the cruise, so that everyone participating has time to organize/prepare their gifts. Shortly before this time (about 2-3 weeks prior) the organizer will post the list, either directly on the Cruise Meet thread, OR via private conversation, or, possibly, via e-mails. This is to confirm everyone on the list is still participating. It’s important to make a statement about “anyone not confirming by XX date will be dropped” at this time. A little harsh, yes, but often there are people who will post on the cruise meet thread as soon as they reserve the cruise and say “I want to participate”, and are never heard from again.

Once the list closes, the organizer will post the final list. Also, a decision must be made as to whether to allow late additions. Sometimes there is a “pixie dust” list. That is, basically, a latecomers list that gets posted about a week out from the cruise that others may or may not add to their “final” list. Be sure the “pixie dust” list participants realize they may or may not get gifts from others, but are expected to provide gifts for the other FE participants anyway.

The other “biggie” is no other social media sites are allowed to be linked or search directions posted as to how to find that other site here on DISboards. Please read this: http://www.disboards.com/threads/im...uise-meet-and-fish-extender-programs.3353477/

So, if I were to take on the task of setting up this list, I would theoretically use a "conversation" function through this site?

Yes, you could. It's optional whether you want to use that, or just post directly on the cruise meet thread with the information.

Conversations are a more private way to exchange what some may feel is not information they want to put on a public forum. BUT (big but), in order to hold a conversation you, and anyone else you'd like to converse with must have at least 10 posts (messages) here on DISboards.

You can post that you'll maintain the list, and, once someone else (who's got 10 posts) says "We want to participate", you can start a conversation with them. As the starter of the conversation, you can invite others to participate as they say they want to sign up, by going to the conversation page, scrolling down to the lower right window that's "Conversation Participants" and clicking on "Invite More".

You can have up to 20 participants in a conversation.

Just booked the Hampton at cocoa beach for our pre-arrival days!

Just paid the remaining balance

This trip is about to get real....real fun!

hey guys, just getting around to finding this thread and i'm glad to see it going! we've started a FE group over on the facebook page and we've got about 14 rooms already. i'd post the link to the google doc for adding your name to the list, but as stated before we apparently can't post any outside links to such sites.

does anyone have any idea on how we can get this info out to others on this thread?

Links and/or search directions are not allowed, either directly posted on the cruise meet thread, or via private conversations. Even "obscure" references aren't allowed.

DISboards administration prefers DISboards Fish Extender groups to be handled on DISboards. FE groups on other sites are not DISboards groups.

How the list is managed (by the FE group organizer) is up to them. If the document is on a not allowed site, you certainly can just post a picture or a PDF of the document here, just can't link it. So only the organizer can make changes/additions to it.

Hi! We are going on our first Disney cruise! We would love to join a fish extender group. Please let me know how we can do this. Thanks :)
It appears there's no Fish Extender group here on DISboards for this cruise. Although @DisneyWed7815 said something about maybe doing it. There may be FE groups on other sites, but they are not DISboards connected, and links or search directions to those are not allowed.
