DisBrides do Disney! - where I meet friends from the DIS - Feb 2013 *complete*

Tea at the Grand Floridian sounds like so much fun, but I don't drink tea, and I've heard different reports about adults being able to order the "kids" tea.

I'd heard reports that they'd abandoned the English Roses china and switched to all white. :confused3 Nice to know that's not true. :)

And I, too, loved that you guys all dressed up for tea. I had my doubts about dealing with a group that size, but you guys make it look fun and easy. :thumbsup2 Somebody did some serious planning there, but I suppose anyone who has done a Disney wedding has the planning thing down. :rotfl:

Everyone wearing dresses was a great idea though!

I can't wait to see New Fantasyland. I've been trying to avoid the pictures, so it will be more of a shock when I get there, but we'll see.

A lot of the girls I was with didn't care for tea, many of them got coffee or hot chocolate. No one tried to order the kids' tea/meal, they just got hot chocolate and sandwiches and stuff a la carte without any problems!

Subbing! This looks fun!

Thanks, and welcome along!

Hmm, I hadn't heard that about the china... but obviously from my pictures they still had the rose pattern in mid February!

And there were definitely some challenges with planning such a large group. The most difficult part was accepting the fact that you can't please everyone - at times there was a little bit of dissension - "I don't like this," "I don't want to do that," etc., but everyone was free to do whatever they wanted and if they wanted to stay with the group they had to do what we all were doing. We definitely learned a lot from planning the trip, but you're right, we're all big planners to begin with! ;)

After Wishes we headed to Enchanted Tales with Belle as promised. Unfortunately, when we arrived the ride was closed - we asked if it would reopen that night and they said they weren't sure and couldn't guarantee it. And then I had a little meltdown... and started to cry. This was the major thing I had wanted to see, I'd been waiting all weekend for it, and now it might not even happen. It was embarrassing, but my friends were cool and totally understood. We went on some other rides in the meantime, including Haunted Mansion and Big Thunder Mountain.

Then, around 11 or 11:30 we watched the Electrical Parade. We had a perfect view because it was later and a lot of people had left the park already. I'd never seen it before and I enjoyed it.

After the parade my friend's fiance ran over to Belle to see if it was open yet... and it was back up! So we decided to head over there immediately. Not everyone in the group came with but I wasn't waiting any longer for everyone, so those that wanted to come could come!

Maurice's house was great, I loved all of the little details. And the show itself was so much fun! The wardrobe wasn't working when we were there, so I didn't get to see that piece of technology yet. They pick a bunch of people to be in the show, and guess who got to be Mrs. Potts? ....

Yup, me! I feel like such a dorky little kid but I was so excited, lol. The show itself is adorable, and Lumiere is totally awesome. I got to act out my little part and later got a picture taken with Belle. They also take pictures throughout the show and then give you a photopass card at the end, so that's pretty cool!

After that we decided to check out Gaston's Tavern. It was freezing, but I really wanted to try a Le Fou's brew. I got one... and it was okay. I like the souvenir cup but even without the cup the drink is totally overpriced. I thought it was really sweet and I like sweet things. I love butterbeer and thought it was nowhere near as good as that.

We decided to go on Little Mermaid again so we could enjoy it a bit more without feeling pressured to be somewhere. It's a great ride! And I still had my drink - I thought they were going to make me wait to get on it, but they let me ride! It felt really cool to be kicking back on a ride sipping my Le Fou's brew! :rotfl:

Afterward we decided to go meet Ariel in her grotto. It was almost 1 o'clock by this point so I was surprised she was still around, but we didn't have to wait at all and got lots of good pictures with her!

We headed to fantasyland/tomorrowland next, and did Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, Dumbo, and Peter Pan. We finished out the night by splitting up between Haunted Mansion and Small World. I went on Small World with one other girl - we were the only ones on the entire ride. Not just in our boat, but the entire thing! It was a little creepy (especially if you've ever read Kingdom Keepers!!). But it was kinda cool too.

Finally at 2am it was time to head out. The Magic Kingdom was completely deserted, and it felt so peaceful.

By the time we got back to our hotel it was past 3 in the morning. Some of the other girls were talking about going to Hollywood Studios for rope drop that morning so they could get on Toy Story, but I didn't think that was happening for me!

I'm really glad Enchanted Tales with Belle opened up later. You got to be in the story? How fun! I can't wait to see that attraction.
iasw completely alone would be pretty creepy.

Yes, Enchanted Tales was so much fun! I think they usually pick little kids to be in the story, but since we were there around 11:30pm there weren't too many little kids left in the park, so a lot of adults got to do the roles. It was super neat, but I'm also excited to see it from the audience perspective next time!

Hollywood Studios

Yeah, I did not make it to rope drop the next morning! :lmao: I like to do as many things as possible while at Disney, but I'm also very aware of the fact that if I don't get enough sleep I'll be miserable. So I slept in until about 10:30. My roommates had already left, so I texted one of my other friends to see what she was up to - she and her fiance were just getting ready to head over to Hollywood Studios then, so I decided to tag along with them!

We met up with our friends that were already in the park - they had just been on Tower of Terror. Turns out some of them decided not to go to bed the night before and had just stayed up til rope drop - crazy girls!

It was approaching lunch time by this point and we were pretty hungry, so we headed over to ABC Commissary. I got the Asian salad with chicken. I know the ABC Comm isn't a super popular place for food, but I enjoy this salad. I had it two years ago and liked it but was thinking it needed something else, like a protein. Now they have the option to add chicken or salmon which was perfect! Yum.

Some of our friends wanted to watch Mulch Sweat and Shears, which I had never seen so I joined them. It was a really fun little show that I didn't even know Disney did! They are talented and play some fun music.

And because we were so enthusiastic, two of us got "picked" (or dragged up, depending on how you look at it!) to be volunteers. The first was because one of the girls was begging them before the show to pick our friend to be in it. She got to do some scat singing, haha.

And then they spotted my roommate's birthday button, and had to bring her up to sing Happy Birthday!

I'm normally a "go-go-go" rides and attractions person, and this show isn't something I would have normally stopped to see but I'm so glad we did! It was a lot of fun!

From there we headed to Star Tours and rode that. I love the new version, I think it's a lot of fun. After that we decided to do Toy Story. I didn't think I'd have any chance of riding it that day since I missed rope drop and the crowds were so big. However, my friends had gotten fastpasses and not all of them were staying in the park (not surprisingly, some of them needed a nap!), so they gave me a fastpass. I went with three other people and we got on Toy Story!

We were at the end of the ride, on the last screen, when the screen just shut down. Our scores were gone! And the ride stopped moving. They made some announcements to be patient while they tried to fix the ride. Normally you're so focused and spinning around so quickly on that ride that you don't get a chance to look around - everything just kind of whizzes by you. So it was actually kind of cool to see all of the details and stuff in there!

And after about 10 minutes they announced that the ride would be shutting down and we would all be escorted out. It took them awhile to come around and "free" us all, and we were led single file around the ride while they let others out too. So we basically got to walk around most of the track of Toy Story Mania, which was pretty neat too. They gave us fast passes to come back good til the end of the month (though today was my last day so I was hoping I could use them later in the day).

Next we decided to do the drawing class over in the Animation building. I had discovered this on my honeymoon and it's one of my new favorite things. I'm not normally a very good artist but they instruct you so well that I feel pretty proud of the work that I come away with! Our character that day was Dale.

The drawing class takes about 25 minutes, so by the time we were done (and we had to wait awhile for the next one to start), Toy Story was back up! This time we got to finish the ride and get our final scores. My roommate was player 1 and I was player 2... hey, I may have lost, but at least I was more accurate! ;) Plus I think this might be my personal best score ever on the ride.

Our plan for the evening was to eat at Beaches and Cream, so we left Hollywood Studios to head over there.

I'd never been to Beaches and Cream before but it's a really cute little place - tiny though! Having only had the salad earlier I was pretty hungry by this point, so I got a bacon cheeseburger and fries. Everything was really tasty.

But of course you can't go to an ice cream shop without getting dessert! And at Beaches and Cream with a group of people, well... how can you resist the kitchen sink?? Four of us were willing to tackle it. I probably shouldn't have eaten dinner beforehand and just had ice cream for dinner...

For some perspective on the size of this thing:

There's basically everything you could imagine in this sundae. Every flavor of ice cream, brownies, snickers bars, bananas, pound cake, oreos, and a whole can of whipped cream! Did we finish it?

Yes. Did my tummy hurt? Yes indeed!

At this point my friends wanted to go to Downtown Disney, but I was interested in going back to HS to see Fantasmic. My friend's fiance also wanted to do that so I went back to the park with him! We got to Fantasmic with about 15 minutes left before it started and sat in the front row. A note about that - we had a fantastic view, but we also got really wet. All of the water screens misted on us the entire time. But I think it was worth it to see the show from right there in the front!

HS was still open for another hour or two, so we decided to try and do some more rides. We went back and did Star Tours again, and ended the night with Muppet Vision 3D. By this point it was around 10:00 and I knew I had to get some sleep, because my flight left at 6am the next morning... and Magical Express was coming for me at 3am!

LOVED this!! I have met a lot of my fellow DISbrides since '09, on one trip meeting up with 4 other DIS bride and groom couples in EPCOT and have also done a group meetup with a bunch and have gotten to know some that really are now good friends (it's great to have this sisterhood of sorts)...

BUT I LOVE what you did!!! A whole trip planned with gifts and a DP and meals together!!! I LOVE it!!

Looks like you all had a fab time and got lots of great pics!

Regina did our MK and EPCOT bridal shoot and we're doing a photo shoot with her in December! I love her! So sweet and so talented!

Whoa, some people just stayed up all night? :lmao: Couldn't do it. Bed time is 10:00, no later or I get cranky! :rotfl2:
I love the streetmosphere in DHS, I never used to stop and watch but I find I do more and more now.
Toy Story Mania shut down? Huh! First time I've read about that one! Glad you got to go back on again!

That's great!! I love how close the DisBrides community is. I have definitely made some really good friends through it too. Some of which don't live too far from me and I'm able to meet up with every few months!

I know, right? I don't have a certain time I have to go to bed, but I definitely need 7 hours or else I feel awful the next day. And I'd never seen TSM shut down before too - it was a really neat experience to see it, though we were told not to take pictures of it which I thought was interesting! The cool part was that we were right at the end of the ride when it shut down, so we got to do almost the entire thing twice.

I got back to the room around 10:30 and fell asleep by 11, but I knew I had to be up at 2:30!! It's an awful feeling getting up that early, but I hopped on the Magical Express and entertained myself at the airport by watching Once Upon a Time on my Kindle before I could get on my flight and just get some more sleep. I landed in Philadelphia by 8:20 and my husband picked me up, took me home and I took a nice long nap!!

And as one trip report ends... another one begins ;) I actually leave in two days for my next trip to Disney! So when I get back I'll start working on the next trip report.

What a fun report! We didn't get married at Disney World (silly DH ;)), so I love living vicariously through other brides.

Enjoy your trip!

That ABC Commissary salad looks good, and that picture of the entrance with the sunset is excellent. Hope you have a great time at WDW this week. :) And thanks for sharing! :thumbsup2

Sounds like you had a great trip!

We also learned our lesson about sitting too close as Fantasmic! The views are great but you get pretty misty, hahaha!

Can't believe you got a 3am ME bus! :worship:

Thank you!! The salad was quite good - I feel like especially when I'm walking around a theme park I need a light lunch sometimes!

Haha I imagine the first row Fantasmic seating is at least a little more pleasant when it's warm out! And after that 3am ME I had to work that afternoon! My sleep schedule was definitely off for a few days.

Yes, those are all really fun things you should definitely try!
