DIS oldtimers (well newtimers too) where are you?

Hello everyone! Haven't been here for a long time and happened on this thread. Seen so many familiar names!

Dan, when did the dis start?
I don't know or think I'm an older one on these boards but not sure.
I also don't think many even would "recongize" me (LOL) even though I've been here for a while.
Thank you for all you do!

I know it started prior to August of 1999. I was here earlier and there was a crash so August of 1999 is not my original start date. I just don't know how much earlier it started. I joined when we got our first computer and that was in 1998. My youngest was 5 years old and she is now going to be starting her final year of college in September. Boy does time fly.

I believe that the boards started around 1996 or 1997. I started posting in 1997 when it was the old style, just text treads with individual responses linked underneath.

Seeing a bunch of names that I remember from years past. At the time I signed up, I had sons in high school. Now they're old married men, and I'm a new Grandma!

(edited to add: looking at my sign-up date, I had sons just starting college!)

ahhhhh, I do remember that and we couldn't get our old start dates, is that correct? If so, I guess I Have been here for 15 years or so.
I joined about 1998 or 1999. We got our first computer then too since I remember my son was just born, my dd was 4 and told us Santa was brining her a computer for Christmas LOL So, he did along with the Reading Rainbow software LOL

I was one of those too! I was posting on the boards before vacations, and lurking/inactive between vacations. I kept changing e-mail providers and couldn't remember my old screen name, so I've had more than one screen name over the years. This one has stuck for a while!

Good to see some familiar names here! :yay:

So for kicks I dug up some old posts.

Here is a post I did on the Podcast board. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1488427

The podcast did a 2007 anniversary show talking about the history of the boards and site that is worth a listen. http://www.wdwinfo.com/podcast/anniversary-56.mp3

And the Way Back Time Machine archive is a fun site for old websites. You can search the old url (disneyinfo.com) and it comes up with hits for the main page from Dec 1998 as well as a snapshot of the Boards (Dec 6, 1998), found here.

I'm pretty sure I found the boards in summer 97, but they didn't exist prior to that. Can't say for sure unless Pete mentions it in that podcast. And yes, the old start dates and logins were wiped and we had to start over in Aug 99.

ETA: Apparently the 10th anniversary podcast was the last in a 3 part series, so some details are missing. I can't find a link on the DIS or iTunes for the shows earlier that year.

Oh my! I am listening now and Bob references the old chats and also the old thread about the "corn people" family. Anyone remember that?

ahhhhhh the corn people!!!!!! :rotfl: I was actually just thinking about that story the other day. ;) I need to click those links and go back and read. I miss the old days. :cloud9: I had another screen name I think at first, or actually it might have been my real name first and then I changed it to TigrLvsPooh because someone told me never to use my real name on the internet. :lmao: but I mostly just lurked because I had two babies under age 2! Now they are in high school!!!! :scared1:

hey everyone, just checking in :) Nice to see so many familiar names

corn people- classic!

Have been around since '98. Found out I was even older when I turned 64. Even older when I got blood clot in left leg the size of Rhode Island end of August.
