Dinner meltdowns in style...Wonder Alaska 2016-Day 4 Skagway

I am a cat person through and through but in this case, after hauling us around, I don't mind offering a little scratch behind the ear and when it comes to puppies, baby animals are just cute and this little guy was so well behaved, he just dozed in my lap.

Certainly! And especially the smaller ones who are more "cat like", but I've always had a fear of bigger dogs who want to jump up on me. Even if I know they are just being affectionate, it still freaks me out a little

Friday May 27—Juneau

No rush to get off the ship today as we were doing our own thing. However, my brother-in-law was anxious to show off Alaska to his girls so they disembarked as soon as they could. I had important character business first...met the Mice and then did rounds with some of my Pixar friends. I wore my special ears with the expectation that Sulley would be out but it was not to be—luckily I had a plan B to impress him later that evening.

My parents and I wandered the shops around the shuttle area while we waited for my sister’s family to meet us.

Then it was off to Mendenhall Glacier. Here we split up—my mom went with my sister’s group to the waterfall and my dad and I headed off on one of the other trails. I was bear scouting but alas, it was to early yet for bears. It was a mixed emotional feeling—I thought it would be really cool to see a bear in its natural habitat but I definitely didn’t want to be chased or eaten by one.

We beat the others back to the visitor’s center so Dad found some seating and I went off to explore the viewing trail.

Back on the ship, it was time for some swimming for the little ones while I sampled some ice cream—new flavor today, think it was mango or something

That night was the Pixar party—thrilled to see Joy and Boo in her monster costume. Those were new to me. Also glad to see Sulley out and about as he was my inspiration for the evening. One of my favorite interactions of the cruise was seeing Sulley mind-blown over my shoes—awesome!

The Mendenhall Glacier looks like a great excursion. That may have suited us better than what we ended up doing. The Pixar Pals party looks really cute. I guess I missed that one too. You got a lot of great character pics!

From the first photos I thought you were having just as wet and dreary a day in Juneau as we had. However, it looks like you had a stunningly beautiful day at the Mendenhall Glacier. That is on top of our to do list for when we make it back to Alaska. I was amazed by how many different characters were out. I would have loved to see Boo. Your evening outfit was amazing.

I was thinking about the title of your trip report..."Dinner Meltdowns in Style". On our last cruise, my kids were 5, 8 and 11, and aside from Animator's Palate, they cannot make it through dinners on DCL without getting bored. Just too long to sit! When we're not in Animator's Palate, my kids will either eat at the clubs or eat room service before dinner and head to the clubs while we have a peaceful dinner. My oldest especially just wanted to jet off to the Edge. It's a win-win for all of us! But I see other kids enjoying the dining rooms just fine.

I can't complain about any of our port weather--the skies were clear and the temps warm. The glacier was a good choice--love being surrounded by all that natural beauty.

The Pixar characters are so much fun and while I missed Mike Wazowski, seeing Boo in disguise was very cool. I hope they keep surprising us with new characters--lots of Pixar choices and the list keeps growing.

After a day of activity, the girls were just overstimulated. One would be on her best behavior and the other would not and vice versa--when they started crawling under the table, that was the sign. I think only my dad and I were there for the whole meal all seven nights--the others randomly took shifts taking the girls back to the room. I think I need my next cruise to be adults only again .....hmmm as I eye the just announced 2017 DVC member cruise.

Saturday May 28 - Ketchikan

Today we were just going to do our own walk around town--we printed off some self guided maps from the Alaska tourism site. It was a pleasant weather day in port again so didn't need many layers.

Back on the ship, it was finally time for dad and I to earn our Mickey winner medals (it was a fierce competition between all of two teams).

This was semi-formal night so I got dressed up and went on some character hunts before dinner.

I'm pretty sure we met him on Semi Formal night. I was going to say in October we met him on Semi Formal night, but it was Pirate night, we were just going to Palo which is why I looked semi formal.
