My DH will turn 44 while we're at WDW this summer. I've heard that the resorts and/or parks have nice (free) surprises for children on their birthdays, like a card in the room from a princess .... anybody know if they do the same for adults? Or have suggestions for free/cheap stuff we could do on our parents' night out? (We're blowing every penny on the trip alone, so don't have any extra to spare for a b-day celebration.)

Make him feel goofy by wearing the "its my birthday" pin around the parks. On our sons birthday Mickey sent a card and balloons to our resort room, but I dont know what they'd do for an adult.

The hoop dee doo revue is always great fun and they make a fuss for birthdays.

If you wanted to do something super cool, book an event with giftsofalifetime.com.

My DH had his 27th birthday there and I told them at the resort and they did nothing... But we went to Chef Mickeys for Breakfast and I had told them a head of time and they sang to him and everything. he even got a chocolate muffin with a candle. They gave one to my Ds almost 2. I didn't ask for it though..
The one cool thing is that I collected birthday badges from all the parks and I made him wear them and he did get people wishing him a happy birthday and we did get to ride on the front of the monorail. SO it was all a good thing...

You can tell them at your resort about the birthday but don't expect anything. If they do something it will be a surprised but if they don't you won't be dissapointed.

CM's will wish him a Happy Birthday, you can get a birthday call from Goofy, a magical moment on a ride. You just never know what can happen with the birthday button.

This is what someone else said:

"Absolutely, make sure you tell them at check-in at the WL that you are on this trip for your son's birthday present. I would even tell them that he gave up a big party at home with his friends so he could be with Mickey. Last year we were at the WL for my husband's 40th and I made sure to tell them at check-in. On his birthday when we went back to the room a nice card was left for him which was "signed" by the characters along with some balloons and a small box of chocolates. This was not expected at all and I'm certain it doesn't happen all of the time but it was really special for him that day and he's not a little one like your son. Make sure you take him to get a birthday button in the park of your choice; at MK it's at town hall and they will have him listen to a phone call where Mickey will wish him a happy birthday too. Make sure you also tell the cast members at any restaurant you visit as well - take lots of pictures too as this probably won't happen again soon "

and on a separate thread...

You can pick up birthday buttons at Town Square at MK or any other Guest Relations area.

Have a wonderful time, kayt. I wish we were in the park with you! <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/11/11_5_1.gif' alt='Blowing A Kiss' border=0></a>

Another post I found: "If you're staying on property, you could ask at the front desk fir a birthday card from Mickey. We've done this, and found it slipped under our door. It's a great surprise for the birthday person."
