... it was her friend (16) in a pair of pj's (shorty pants and tank- almost looked like it had sequins on them!) I was digusted to say the least. What are these kids thinking? It's like inviting all of the perverts in the world into your bedroom.

Mermaid - I have no idea what they are thinking. I really hate those darn myspace sites. My kids do not and will not ever have their own myspace site or any other site like that. So many argue that their kids have them and are mature about them - but I just feel it's been proven time and time again...that these kids are just that - kids, and they do not have the capacity to differenciate between who is real and who is trying to pull the wool over their eyes. Proof of that was the 16 yr. old who just flew to the middleast to meet the older man she met on her myspace site last week.

Kids grow up way to fast these days. They think it's cool to be able to look good in night clothes and post them for the world to see. :sad2: Let alone the whacko's that invite them over to their site to veiw God knows what.

If you have broadband service and are using a router, you might be able to blocks sites in the admin screen. If your's doesn't have that (most do) feature, upgrade to one that does. Routers are really cheap these days.

LOL! - You beat me. I was just coming back to edit my post with this info. :teeth:

It is amazing the things people put on myspace these days even adults they put down where they live and work are they serious?? I think alot of people don't realize that myspace is viewable to everyone.

I do have a myspace I put down that I am 14 though, which I'm really not, so my profile is set to private so no one can view it unless I add them as my friend and I don't have any pictures of me up. I am very paranoid about what I will actually put on mine. When you are kid though you don't think anything bad is going to happen to you!

I'm 33 years old, married, with two kids and have had an internet stalker that I still deal with a bit today.

If someone like me can be a target, imagine what some beautiful young girl in pj's can attract.

I have a myspace account and find it pretty disturbing when I see these girls and women dressed provocatively.

The appalling thing is that a friend of mine is an artist, and some of her work is semi-nude, and myspace has several times removed some of her images of paintings of women--one was a mother nursing and infant. I mean HELLLOOOOO... that's obviously ART, not porn, yet she gets her images removed while a 14 year old wearing a bra and g-string can hang it all out. Give me a break!

I LOVE some things about myspace--I've reconnected with several long lost friends and I've made half a dozen new real life friends. But it definitely ahs a sleazy side as well.

In the long run, it comes down to parental responsibility. Parents need to know what their kids are doing online, and not blame a site when they aren't watching and something bad happens to their kid.

My 15 was allowed to have a page on myspace until it started to be a problem. I bought her this cute t-shirt last year for her birthday that says " I got an A+ in shopping!" She took a picture of herself in the tee and put it on her page with a caption that said something like what the tee shirt said was the truth. Only thing the pic accented her frontage which is quite ample for her age. My sister who has a page showed me. Then I saw a reponse from a boy who said he was 15 but looked a lot older but then so does DD. He wrote, cute shirt but I don't think anyone is really attention to what it says!" :furious: I am not ready, I am not ready!! I called her at her dad's and explained to her how inappropriate it is. She said she was only showing the tee shirt and I believed her. But she agreed to take it down. Since then, no problems. I am not myspace.com savvy but DB and DSis are so they monitor her page and alert me to anything unacceptable.

Thats just 1 of many sights I have blocked from DD's computer .

She can't even go on a web-sight until I approve it and if I want I can shut it down from remote at any time.

MSN also e-mails me a report of what and when and how long She is Surfing

I couldn't beleive what I was seeing from some of the girls on her 14 and under soccer teams .

And Ducklite I'm sorry but if it's a mom breast feeding a child thats avail. to a 10 year old to look at then it is porn in those eyes and has no place in a public access web-sight.

I have no problem with Nudes and My DD knows about the Human Body but most kids and some adult don't know how to act and thats what the problem is.

She sould put in a link thats password protected and give the password to 18's and older she wishes to veiw her Art work.

I do hope you're kidding. First of all, no one under the age of 14 is supposed to be on myspace, and you can't view photo's or blogs until you are a member. So if a ten year old LIES to get access, then a parent has a bigger problem on their hands than a tasteful painting of a woman feeding her child. And you obviously have no idea how myspace actually works, because you can't simply password protect things.

So I guess you think Michelangelo's statue of David is porn as well?

I would say that *most* ten year olds wouldn't think of breast feeding as porn. And those that do have no one to blame but uptight parents. In fact some parents are so freaking uptight that I'm not sure how they managed to have kids to begin with...

My mom won't let me have myspace at all (I'm 13, almost 14) but even if she did, I've seen some of the stuff from my friend's MySpace's and honestly do NOT want to get involved in all that crap. And even if you say that your site is "Private" people have ways of viewing ANYTHING THEY WANT on the internet, so Lord knows who could be looking at your pictures... I don't care if all the people at school are telling me I should get a myspace (which they do...), I'm not going to. However, Xanga is a very nice substitution...

Ok NO I was not kidding and Michelangelo's Statue of David is in Diplay in a Museume that an appropate place for ART .

When it's on a public web-sight it's PORN and YOU KNOW it's veiwed by sickos that way .

Most parents are computer illiterit and when Johnny 10 year old comes up and says mom this is ok to be on and mom not knowing or careing says sure then we all know that the rules of 14 ARE NOT FOLLOWED. But that doesn't make it right to put Porn on the sight for all to see.

I know how Myspace works very well as anyother Meet & Greet sights You can LINK to another web sight or photoveiwing Space and Password protect that.

And YES 10 year olds are still looking at MOM Victoria Secrets Mag As PORN.

Theirs a difference between being uptight and what is approperit for viewing for those under the age of 18 and thats just the facts.

Childern make wrong decisions Parents Just make BAD ones.

Yeah I was on Kenny Chesneys myspace yesterday and some woman posted a picture of herself and her like 9 yr old daughter both in bikinis all close up. I couldn't help but think of the Dateline special. There are alot of sickos in this world

Then you better never let your kid on Google either, because "Statue of David" as a search brings up a photo of the statue right there on Google. Breast feeding is not porn. Period.

You are so wrong. I think I know one, maybe two parents who are computer illiterate. Most people use a computer daily with their jobs, or used one in college. Look at all the SAHM's on the Dis. Your statement is absurd at best.

But why should she have to if myspace is only for those 14 and up? if a parent isn't supervising their 10 year old's computer use, then it's the fault of an artist? Another *blame the victim* scenario.

Uh, right. IN your world, which is quite different from teh real world.

Viewing a painting of a woman breastfeeding a child by a 14 year old and older shouldn't be seen as inappropriate. Myspace is for that age range, and any ten year old who isn't being properly supervised, well whose fault is that?

Some parent's aren't even smart enough to make "wrong decisions."

If you haven't already, I would call the girls parents and give them a heads-up. They may not be aware that their DD has these pictures on Myspace. It sounds mean, but if it were your kid, wouldn't you want to know? I'm sure you can talk to the parents and maybe they can approach their DD about it without making it known that the information came from you.

I agree there is no reason to dress like a ho and put it online.

What makes me laugh is all the fuss over myspace.

The internet has been around for years... Kids have been making websites with pics on aol.... hanging out in chatrooms and talkign in ims... and yes, getting ims from pervs.... There are also other instant messaging programs that if you were a wacko all you had to do is seach by age and location.

Maybe its because myspace is more dummy proof and anyone can make a page.

Anne I'm very sorry

I've hit a cord that doesn't really belong here on the DIS

I live in a low to Mid income part of the City and the KIds here are having Babies at 12 all the time.

Most parents are high or non-exsitant .I just see these kids abused in one form or another from this world they have no idea from.I wish all parents were involved with what their kids are doing but when they run by my window at 1:00am in the morning on a school night someone has to take the responsibility to look out for these kids.

I think restrictions have to be put in place by the responsible Adults to protect our children of TODAY.

I agree! And BTW--I've gotten far more messages through AIM from strangers than through myspace.

Unless you want to count the goofy stuff my friend Johnny leaves for me. Oh wait, he's not a stranger, just strange... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

So what on earth does that have to do with an artists tasteful painting of a breastfeeding mother.

Just beacuse parenting is virtually non-existant in Sandtown or wherever you live doesn't mean that the rest of the world needs to be punished for it. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!

Perhaps if some of these kids were exposed to the arts it would give them a new lease on life. By your own admission they are already well aware of sex, sexuality, and their bodies. Wouldn't you rather show them a POSITIVE side of parenting, that of a mother nurturing her infant?
