Confused about cat 5

I did an search and can not figure out the ans to these ques. TIA for the answers.

1. Do some of the cat 5 have a pull down bed and others do not?
Which rooms have a pull down? We are 2 adults, 2 kids and want a cat 5.

2. Can they put bed rails on the lower convertible sofa bed?

3. Are the verandahs clear plexi or solid?

4. Has anyone ever sailed a cat 4 and THEn a 5? We did the 4 and loved it but it is quite a price difference so....we are thinking about the 5 this time.

A Cat5 is the same as a Cat6, just on the higher deck. If you put in '4' for the number of people, it will only show up the staterooms that have the pull downs. The verandahs are plexi except the ones past the Cat7's on the deck.

The difference between a cat 4 and a cat 5 is about 3 feet of cabin length and a "murphy bed" that pulls down to hold the fifth person.

Some cat 5s sleep 4 and some sleep 3. If you book a cat 5 with 4 people, you will be assigned a cabin that holds 4. Yes, bed rails can be placed on both the upper and lower bunk if desired. Just tell your room steward.

The verandah is plexi-glass.

Since you are interested in saving money, why not book a cat 6? They are identical to a cat 5 except for location on the ship, and again will save a couple hundred dollars (more money for fun!)

Ditto! Except if you book a Cat 5 aft of the Cat 7's your verandah WILL have a solid wall, not plexiglass (though these may not hold 4 so won't matter anyway!!!). Another way to tell is the solid wall verandahs are noted with an * on the deck plans. All Cat 5's are on Deck 7.

But I totally agree with Kcashner about booking a Cat 6 instead. Same exact size of cabin, just on a lower deck. We have stayed in Cat 6's a few times and love them.

If you go to this website:

and click on a deck number under the "List of Stateroom Numbers & Details" category, it will list every stateroom on the deck and give you the number of people the stateroom sleeps and whether the stateroom is a connecting stateroom. For verandah staterooms, it will tell you if there is a solid metal wall. If it does not say that, then it has plexiglass.
