This may be silly question, but will the waterfall be affected by the pool refurb?

I think that the waterfall is off now. So I'm guessing that it will be back on soon. When we took the lodge tour last January we learned that the creek and waterfall are on one system, the pool is on its own system, and the geyser is on its own system. So the three bodies of water are completely independent. I think the geyser uses lake water. So I don't think the geyser will be affected since it is outside of the pool area. But then I'm only guessing.

Can anybody tell me about the fire pits on the beach? Thought it would be nice to make s'mores one night waiting for the water pageant to start

Yep! If I remember correctly, we stopped at BB. On the way to AK we did the same thing.





There is one fire pit at the beach. However when we were there last week, they were only roasting marshmallows...no smores. I'm sure you could bring your own chocolate and graham crackers though. They do make smores at FW before the Chip n Dale Sing along. You just have to bring your own or either purchase a smores kit for $9.00. The kit actually lasted 2 nights...and that's with 3 children.

The campfire is on the beach at a scheduled time each night. The CM's start the fire and pass out the sticks and marshmallows. You can buy the s'mores kit in the Mercantile, back in the corner by the rest of the food.

In the 70s and 80s as kids we would always stay at the Contemporary. As no other hotel we stayed at had a monorail- that was the Disney theming. Also that Contemporary arcade in the 80s was legendary and an attraction in itself.
I understand why people don't think it has theming but I make it a point to go back to that hotel every trip.

We stayed at the CR back when our kids were young, which would have been the late 70's and early 80's, and our son LOVED the game room. That was all he ever wanted to do. Eventually they remodeled it and it was never the same.

Not sure about the WL selling the kits. I didn't notice any in the store.

As far as the marshmallow roasts on the beach do CMs build the fire or is it something that guests do on their own? I also would be interested in knowing if they sell the smores kits. Also how far is it to the FW campfire sing along?

There was a Cast Member at the fire pit. They will also be giving you the sticks and the marshmallows. You can take the boat to FW...it's a fairly quick ride and very relaxing. Each time we stay at the WL, we visit the Fort. There's also a trail that you can walk/ride bikes that connects the two resorts, but it's a bit of a hike.

We are booked in a deluxe club level room, which I understand are all not actually on the club level. I don't want a long haul for club level goodies. Besides asking to be close to the old faithful club, anything else we should ask for to prevent a long walk for goodies?

Awesome idea, but...Just found out the Free Dining would not follow us. Ah well. Doesn't seem to make sense to check into AKL for 3 nights, then move. Or does it? Gah, so many choices. How do the Disney regulars do it?

Free dining and split stays don't really work too well unless you plan to go out of pocket at one of the resorts.

The regulars roll with the punches because they know that every Disney trip has something unexpected happen. There are many wonderful things about a Disney trip and hopefully the good things outweigh the bad.

There are some deluxe rooms that are closer to the lobby. They are referred to as inner courtyard rooms.

That they do and we keep reminding ourselves that it will all be fine. But, you know that family that Murphy likes to follow along and make things slightly difficult only for it all to be A Okay in the end, but it was hard work to get there? When it comes to vacas, that seems to be us. The fact that Murphy is working before we even get on the plane makes us a little concerned. It all turns out for the best and we have a great time in the end, and for that, we are grateful. We just wish that sometimes, we didn't have to work quite so hard to get there. (some hard work is fine, keeps us strong and all that).

See the geyser being down would be tough for me. I REALLY want to see that geyser. I know it sounds silly.

But, I am still looking forward to exploring the resort. And, tbh, other than naps, I've only scheduled 2 half days for downtime; and those I can easily fill up with park time .

Yes that was the prime time. I also remember they used to have shows like Hee-Haw on the television in the food court. Back then, that wasn't a show I knew of growing up in NJ. Florida was like another country to me.
It never was the same after the remodel.

Joining in!!! We stayed here in 2008 for our honeymoon and again in 2010 at which point we bought into DVC at BLT. We plan on paying OOP and staying club level in October 2015. Miss this place!!! I can't wait to stay here again!!!

NEWS FROM THE LODGE​

CURRENT/UPCOMING/RECENT REHABS:




SILVER CREEK is currently undergoing a rehab and has been drained. The lobby bridge is closed. The creek should be completed and re-filled the first week of July 2014. Photos taken 6/8 by hstrickland are located HERE.

WILDERNESS LODGE/SILVER CREEK POOL. UPDATE 6/18: The WL pool closure was publicly confirmed HERE. The pool will be closed 9/3 - 11/27. Guests may use the CR, FW and VWL pools. Transportation will be provided.

EpcotBill provided us on 6/18 with the following TA information:

In addition, the Silver Creek Springs Pool at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge will be closed for refurbishment Sept. 3-Nov. 27, 2014. During this time, the leisure pool at The Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge will remain open. Guests will also have the opportunity to visit either the Main Pool at Disney’s Contemporary Resort or the Meadow Swimmin’ Pool at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Complimentary transportation will be provided to both of these neighboring resorts.

If the pool was your Client’s primary reason for choosing Disney’s Wilderness Lodge during this timeframe, please consider working with your Client to find an alternative Walt Disney World Resort hotel that will suit their needs.

SFunaro was told on 6/18 that they are putting in a fence, a sidewalk around the pool and kid's splash area.

As more details emerge, I will continue to update this section.

6/6/14 - Wilderness Lodge POOL WORK PERMITS, found online by TheLodgeLady, show "Main pool and deck area" work to be performed. The permits were filed at the end of 2013. On 6/10, hstrickland was told that the kiddie pool will be replaced with a splash pad water feature area. Other pool area work will be done, but specifics are unknown at this time. Some have reported that that guests with reservations that overlap with the pool rehab will be contacted by mail, presumably at least 60 days prior to the rehab.


VWL: All villas have received a hard goods rehab that begun January 2014 and was completed at the end of March 2014.
