Chuck and Lynn Go to Mousefest! New 5/4!

Lynn says No Way!....Now she's says she's 'thinking about it' which we all know is parent speak for..........No way!.

Lynn does a whole mess of walking on the treadmill, but she is not much of a runner (she runs like a girl!).

All joking aside, we would probably consider doing it (it looks like fun) but I just registered a couple of weeks ago for the 2010 half-marathon, which means, of course, another trip to WDW. Maybe next year though (I'm trying to convince Lynn that she can racewalk and probably cover as much ground as some of the runners).

How many miles are in the Half Marathon at Disney, Chuck?

How did you get the flippy clock? It's pretty neat.

The Half is 13.1 miles, which is really kind of daunting since for the past umpteen years I have been a professional couch potato and about the only thing I have exercised has been my button pushing finger on the TV remote!
I've wanted to do the half-marathon for the past 3 years (curse you Lou and Mike Scopa). Now that I have paid my registration fee there's no turning back! I've been doing the intervals training through the podrunner podcast for the past few weeks.
As far as the flippy thing goes, I have no idea! Lynn is responsible for all of the 'bling'.

Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to pass it on. My DH is in the same situation as you are. He's trying to do a running program, but has been sick for the last week. It'll be like starting over the next time we get into the gym. It would be so fun to go down for the run!

I’m not a runner, however being a podcast junkie, I came upon podrunner and between that and Disney Running, I’ve come up with a program of sorts. What I like about the podrunning intervals, is that it alternates between walking at a fast gate (135 – 140 BPM) and running. To give you an idea who much I hate to get on the treadmill, I cover all of the digital readouts with painters tape and I don’t look until after my time is over. At this time, I’m doing the treadmill every other day for 40 – 45 minutes with a few minutes afterwards for the elliptical (or as the kids call it the Elipti-KILL) but as I get more into it I’ll probably bump it up to five days a week. The big thing for me is not to over-do it and then burn myself out or get discouraged because I can’t do 10 miles right out of the gate.

Listening to those that participated in the half and looking at some of the videos of it on-line has really motivated me. Plus, being able to run down Main Street (while not being chased by an angry princess, but I regress) is gotta be soooo cool!

I love the new flippy ticker!!! I especially love the Everest one!!!

Thanks! It was kind of fun making different ones for the different trips!

I am so glad I am not the only paranoid person not wanting to get thrown out of a park! I am going to have to tell Marc about your following the rules so he will stop teasing me about our DHS morning last September. :lmao:

I'm loving your new tickers! :woohoo:

You all don't know how much better you have made me feel! Chuck acted as if I was being paranoid, but I was truly afraid of getting "escorted out."

Wow security was tight, but I suppose that's good. Love the photos Lynn, especially all the different gingerbread houses, very cute!

So will you be participating in the actual EE5K challenge or just the easy AC bit? :rotfl:

Glad you liked the photos! I'll definitely be doing the easy AC bit. Not so sure about the EE5K! :scared1:

Hey, Chuck, looks like we'll be participating in the 2010 Half together, and I blame Lou Mongello, as well! It was so easy to get caught up in all of the excitement when you listened to WDW Radio's coverage of the Half marathon. It got me on the treadmill, and now I'm registered for the Half! I've only done 3.67 miles so far, but I've got a 6 miler coming up for the March of Dimes in April, so I'll be slowly increasing that amount.

And Lynn, you could totally walk it! I'm no runner, so I'll be fast-walking the whole thing. I'll probably finish in just under the 3.5 hour mark, but I'll get that medal anyway!:thumbsup2

I'd love to try, but I'd hate to hold Chuck back when he is training so hard. This is all about him and cheering him on! Now, the EE5K, maybe......

I got the flippy ticker from www.mickeypath.com. You make different tickers and put them together. I'm not sure I like it as well as the other one I had.
Well the good thing is, is that you can change it later! I think it's kinda cute, because there are so many choices in tickers that now you don't have to chose just one. You can have more! :)

great update and pics.

I totally missed the monorail tree when we were there.

It was fun putting together the different tickers to reflect the different trips! I might still change back.

Good reason to go back this Christmas!!!

Day Three Part Nine

As the sun set that night, the temperature dropped. We spent as much time inside the Poly lobby waiting for the main attraction: Wishes from the beach. It was fun to watch the people coming and going. We watched a particularly rousing game of checkers between a little girl and her grandpa. About thirty minutes out, we ventured onto the beach! It was freezing!!! We found some beach chairs and Chuck set up his tripod. Even with a couple of jackets, mittens, and gloves, I was still freezing. The wind was killing my ears! Then Chuck had an idea!!

Mummy Lynn! The towels came from the pool and I was pretty comfortable under there.

There were several families out there waiting. One particular family had a couple of teenagers who were complaining loudly about being in the cold. After awhile, I heard the mom yell, “ Just be quiet! We are making memories!” LOL

Wishes was delayed (not sure why.), but it finally started and as always, it delivered!!

Wishes brought a tear to my eye and again I was thankful to be well enough to make the trip!

Afterward, we took the monorail back over to Mk to catch our bus to CBR. At CBR and the POP bus stops, they had CMs posted to answer questions and help keep the buses moving. I guess since those are very high volume resorts, it helps to have a little crowd control. We made it up to the front of our queue and as we waited we struck up a conversation with our CM, Hank. He commented on how cold it was that night and told us about how some CM use hot pads in the jacket pockets to help keep them warm. He also told us the story of an unfortunate boat captain who decided it would be a good idea on a cold night to put the hot pads in her bra. They get up to 150 degrees! Since she was “on stage” when things started “heating up”, she could not take them out until she was relieved from her post!! Talking to him helped the time pass quickly and soon we were back at CBR (number 4 bus stop tonight) and tucked into our cozy room.

Heavens, can you imagine what pain that CM must have been in???

Beautiful pictures of Wishes, but I am cold just thinking about how cold you must have been!
