Hello Everyone!

I'm not only brand new to DISboards, but most forums in general! I am super excited to share my wedding experience with all of you! And, I can't wait to hear about your experiences!

Here is our background:

About Us

We met in May of 2007 through a mutual friend. Only a few weeks later, we both went to Disney World at the same time! Jay took me on our first "Fancy Dinner Date" to Chefs De France in the France pavilion in Epcot. Our love of good music, good food, and good laughs made us quickly fall in love <3

We enjoy being wine and foodies together. We also enjoy long car rides filled with a great soundtrack of musical theater, alternative rock, classic rock, and jam bands. We also love doing puzzles and playing board games together. We also are proud parents of an amazing cat, Aria. And, let's not forget our love of travel and, of course, all things Disney.

Our Proposal

We had been planning a trip to Walt Disney World to visit friends and attend Epcot's 15th Annual Food and Wine Festival. One October 8th, Jay took me to Bistro de Paris for a French Regional Lunch. After a delicious meal, Jay walked me over to the Champagne and Desserts cart at the entrance of the World Showcase. He bought us each a glass of champagne, and we took a seat right next to the store at Showcase Plaza. In front of a Disney trash can Jay got down on one knee. He asked me to marry him, and I said "Yes!"
He explained that this little spot...this one over-looked trash can...is our spot in Disney. He didn't do it during fireworks, a special dinner, on stage, or anything fancy...and it was absolutely perfect!

Our Wedding

Date: October 9, 2011
Ceremony Venue: Sea breeze Point
Pre-Reception Venue: St. James Patio
Reception Venue: Marvin Gardens Ballroom
(Possible) Dessert Party: France-Epcot's World Showcase

Both Jay and I will be staying at the Boardwalk!!!!!

Welcome and congrats!! Your wedding is right after mine :) Can't wait to hear all of your plans!

Oh darn, too bad the thrash can wasn't the talking trash can. That would have added something to the proposal.

Welcome! I can't wait to hear all your plans!

So, we've started thinking about our ceremony music! I think we have a good list going so far. We just need to start figuring out when each song will be played.

On top of Jay and I being HUGE music fans and musicians, I'm a music teacher. So, the PRESSURE IS ON! I hope I can find sheet music to these songs, so I can give it to Disney early! Warning: our music taste is VERY eclectic! :-)

Here's what we got so far:

Moonlight Serenade--Glen Miller
Somewhere My Love--Theme from Dr. Zhivago
Claire De Lune--Debussy
Someone to Watch Over Me--Gershwin
La Vie en Rose--Standard
'Til Him--The Producers
Oh--Dave Matthews Band

Welcome!! :wave2:

Love your music choices so far! And your story is cute! :)

Can't wait to hear all of your plans!! Your wedding is the day after my birthday!!

I can't believe have to wait 60 DAYS we're going to DISNEY for our Planning Session!

We're bringing my mom and Jay's dad along with us. We are also scheduled for a tasting. I AM PUMPED!!

We're going April 2nd-6th, and we're staying at Caribbean Beach! We're getting the dining plan, so we've already booked our Table Service meals.

We're eating at:
Le Cellier
Tappan Edo
Artist Point! :thumbsup2

I CAN NOT WAIT!

All of this snow in New England is ESPECIALLY making me antsy! I want to be in Orlando RIGHT NOW!!

The FH and I are trying to get our "Planning Kit" filled out as much as possible right now! There are a lot of questions in the PDF file that are tricky for us to answer! I have so many questions for our planner!

I can't figure out how to post a picture or to delete a post!

Silly Me...

Can someone help me figure out how to attach pictures?!?!?!

I don't think you can delete a post...that I know of, but you can edit a post. Click on edit at the bottom of the post.

Here is how to post a picture:
• Get a free photobucket account at www.photobucket.com.
• Then upload your pictures to there.
• Once they are uploaded point your mouse at the picture and you will see a drop down list below the picture.
• Then left click your mouse on the words "IMG Code". When you do this you will see the word "copy" show up where the code was.
• Now go back to your post on the DISBoards and right click and "paste" the code into your post and the picture will show up once you complete the post.

I can't wait for you to post pictures so we can see things for your "vintage" wedding. Make sure you check out this thread...this DISBride had the most amazing vintage wedding! I think it is a 20's wedding, but it may give you some idea of how one bride had a vintage wedding at Disney.

When people have "vintage" weddings, I often see the 20's but you are the first 40's. I'm excited to learn more and I couldn't help myself...so I did a little research as I'm sure you already have TONS. I know it was "the big band era".

If you need more music here are some popular bands from that era:
Andrews Sisters
Louis Armstrong
Fred Astaire
Gene Autrey
Cab Calloway
Nat King Cole
Count Basie
Bing Cosby
Dorris Day
Tommy Dorsey
Duke Ellington
Gracie Fields
Ella Fitzgerald
Benny Goodman
Fletcher Henderson
Ink Spots
Spike Jones
Sammy Kaye
Franky Laine
Guy Lombardo
Jeanette MacDonald
Glenn Miller
Mills Brothers
Cole Porter
Artie Shaw
Frank Sinatra
Mel Torme
Fats Waller
Woody Herman
Dizzy Gillespie

Movie Nights:
You might have some fun "movie" nights leading up wo your wedding with your DF or bridesmaids and watch movies set in the 40's like "the Notebook", "Pearl Harbor", etc. and movies actually made in the 40's like Casablanca, It's a Wonderful Life, Maltese Falcon, etc. They may help you get ideas or at least get into the mood for your wedding.

Here is a link to the top 10 movies in the 40's...maybe you could watch them all:

For centerpeices:
Instead of numbering the tables you could name them after 40's and 50's hollywood stars and each table could have a picture of the star at their wedding in black and white. Get the "hollywood gets married" book that has elizabeth taylor on the cover, copy the picutures and frame them along with the star's name. Use these to label the table i.e. "The Elizabeth Taylor Table" The "Marylin Monroe Table" the "Frank Sinatra table" etc...it really sets the mood! (Of course...none of those stayed married. Wonder if there are any that did.) You could also name the tables after some of the band names or pick one like Glen Miller tracks.

Other decor: Blow up pictures of movie stills from that era, and/or have black and white photos of you and your DF that match the era. Use candle lamps on the tables. Wartime Memorabilia (Jeeps/Canteens/Planes/Battleships/Dog Tags/Uniforms).

Clothes: single breasted suit and fidora for the groomsmen and the little hats with veils and shawls for the bridesmaids. Other options include, pin-stripe suits or light and white seersucker suits if your wedding is outside in the summer. Minimum fabric was used and suits were without vests and pocket flaps

Here is how one bride started her wedding:To begin the ceremony we blacked the theatre out and the silence was broken with the outbreak of war speech by Chamberlain, then the sounds (very loudly) of a lancaster bomber flew right over head following by the air raid siren, blitz noises and then the all clear siren whereupon all the lights came on and Glen Miller Moonlight Serenade was played and the bridesmaids one by one followed by me walked down.

Place cards: You might put fun facts about the 40's on place cards so that your guests can learn more about the era.

Menu:
Serve different types of canapes: shrimp, cream cheese, blue cheese and avocado canapes were popular in the forties.

Fish and fruit cocktail served in cocktail glasses will make your entree original and theme fitted.

Fillet mignon, chicken salad, shrimp salad, pan fried oysters were served in special events.

Icecream and sherbets were served for dessert. As for drinks sparkling wines, gin based drinks and champagne were the favorites, so keep them in mind!

I can't wait to hear your details!

Had you considered sending an old fasioned telegram (like western union) as your "save the date"...that would definitely fit a 1940's themed wedding.

Oh My Goodness, Dolly! Thank you so much for all for all of this wonderful information! You're the best! It's funny you mention the centerpieces! That's what we were planning on doing for our centerpieces! I am LOVING the idea of using song names as table names as well! :-)

Our colors are Ballet Pink, Black, and Antique Silver. I also love burgundy, so I'm trying to shimmy that in somewhere for pops of color.

My Bridesmaids will be in Black. And, I have a lace top gown!

Thank you, again, for your help! :yay:

OH! Also, we chose to have it 1940s because my Fiancé and I LOVE the movies and music from the 1940s. We also love the style. We sometimes feel like we were born in the wrong era! Also, my grandparents were married in the 1940s, and we think it would be wonderful to pay homage to them in our wedding. We're actually using their "song" in our ceremony. The only downside of their "song" is it's from 1965!

You will have to put together an inspiration board (if you haven't already) so you can post it on this thread. Here are some things I have seen in case they inspire you for your wedding:

COLORS:

Look through these Martha pics (there are 12) for some inspiration on your colors:

Have to admit, I might be taking some of your ideas! :rolleyes1
I plan to have a [1940's] vintage carnival theme.

Welcome to the boards! I love the idea of a 1940's wedding! I considered doing it as well, but decided to go the Cinderella route instead. I can't wait to hear more about your plans!

Our Save the Dates are finished and sent out! We put a picture of our embroidered "Ears" on our STD! I'm pumped. I can't wait until for our planning session! 3 WEEKS!! :-)
