I have heard only bad things about Chef Mickeys for dinner have we made a mistake we are taking the kids there ages 1,4 and 9 the little ones love Mickey (who can resist the mouse) but we don't want food that tastes bad or a dirty place to eat do we need to change adr's?? We have been there for breakfast which was ok but I am hearing nothing but nightmares of dinner HELP we need to eat outside of parks .

I have a bit of a problem with some of this. I certainly believe everyone is entitled to their opinion on quality of food. Personally, my family goes every year and we always enjoy it. I must admit we enjoyed it a little less this year for dinner than in years' past, but it was good and we love breakfast there. But for someone to say it's dirty I feel is just untrue. OP has been there for breakfast and I would ask if it was dirty then. I really don't think the breakfast shift cleans the restaurant and the dinner shift doesn't. Also, I love the advice and opinions on the DIS, but nobody on the DIS boards will EVER convince me to cancel an ADR. Especially if my child loves a character at a restaurant. I will always form my own opinion!

We ate at Chef Mickey's for breakfast in March and April and loved it. The food was good and the place was clean. It was 6 adults but we were excited about the characters coming to the table and getting our pictures taken. I have never been for dinner.

On here you will here everything. You really need to go for youself and see.
On here there is always a complaint about some resturant but what they don't like you might like.

Chef Mickey's
is clean no way that any Disney resturant would be dirty let alone the most pouplar.

Chef Mickey's has good food it's not gourmet but it is good.

Chef Mickey's has the best character's.

Chef Mickey's is the best Dinsey feeling resturant.

Been going to Chef Mickey's for BK & Dinner many of times and all good. :thumbsup2

I couldn't agree more!!!

I've honestly never seen a "dirty" restaurant at Disney, buffet or not. And, I would know "dirty" buffets because we had a few here in town that icked me out BIG TIME. We ate several buffets the last time we were at WDW (admittedly not CM), and NONE of them were icky.

Now food quality and personal preference are a completely different situation. What appeals to your palate may not appeal to another's.

To be honest, I wouldn't *not* eat there based upon what I've read here.

they have plenty for dessert! there's enough things to fill up on for dinner, like salad and Mickey raviolis, oh and the mashed potatoes.

We've eaten there 2x for dinner. The first was great.. great characters, not crowded at 5pm, good food and great dessert.

The last time we ate there it was bad.. few characters came by b/c it was busy and chaotic so we didnt stay long, same food for dinner which was good, and the dessert was good except for the watery ice cream which bummed me out b/c i loved making the toppings on it which is one of the best things about CM, that ice cream was icky! Last time it was regular. I tried both machines too.

Would i go to CM again? Yes, but i would choose 5pm, not 9:30pm. And if I had kids I would surely take them to CM! However, only if on the dining plan, the bill is outrageous!

We have been to Chef Mickey's for dinner each of our last 5 trips. If it were anything like OP described we would not keep going back. Is it the nicest restaurant at Disney, no. Does it have the best food at Disney? Well, no. Does it have the best overall atmosphere for the kids? In my mind, yes.

Chef Mickey's is clean though if could use an update in the near future. The food is good and the little ones will find some good things to eat, especially the desserts. The character interaction is great. I would go without hesitation and have a great time.

My family and I have been to Chef Mickey's a few times for dinner and each time we thought it was very good, so we have nothing to complain about.

You'll be fine with the 3 kiddos - you'll probably love it there. The food is fine (not great), the characters are good (Fab 5), and it's no dirtier than any other Disney buffet where you might come across someone having made a mess before a CM comes through to clean it up.

I agree with the other posters.

As for only bad reviews, that isn't true at all. Remember bad press always makes the front page, even if it is an isolated incident.

Chef Mickeys is one of the most popular character meal locations at WDW. Part of the problem is that too much hype, slightly higher prices than other similar restaurants and most of all, UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS cause a whole host of problems. Go in and enjoy your meal. Don't look for fault and dont wait for something out of this world to happen. The food is pretty average, but IMO it is good. It is hot, the buffet area is well stocked, if you need more of something they will bring it out and the atmosphere is fun. You now have 8 responses on this thread and so far, we have yet to hear from one of those who had a bad experience.

Enjoy your meal. :goodvibes

DH and I ate there back in February for dinner with our DD who was 2 at the time. We really liked the food, and enjoyed the characters. I thought the prime rib was a little too rare, but that's a matter of taste, and there were plenty of other great things to choose from. Fantastic dessert buffet and soft serve ice cream!

We paid OOP and I felt that it was over priced for a buffet, but I would go back if we're using the Dining Plan next trip.

I have never been to any Disney restaurant and ever thought it was dirty, quite the opposite in fact.

I love chef mickeys. I think the food is very good. We even included there mashed potatoes for your reception at our DFTW.

Chef Mickey's may not be the very best food that you will have while at Disney, but it is still on our list of must do's. My kids expect to start each trip off with dinner there so they can see the Fab 5 characters! The last time we were there, we told our server that we had missed Minnie on our previous visit and before we knew it, she was SITTING at our table with the kids! Go and enjoy!

I agree with the others, go and don't worry.

As one person said, you will hear good and bad about every place at WDW. If I would've listened to all the bad reviews of a few places, I wouldn't have had wonderful food and a wonderful time at them.

CM is a fun place, can it get loud, yes. Is it the best food in the world, no but it is good and hot. When we were there, the CMs always had the trays full and fresh and were friendly.

Go and enjoy, don't worry about what others say.

We had a bad experience and we will not be going back. We ate breakfast there in February and I would classify it as dirty. There was food dropped, spilled and splattered all over the buffet area and very little of it was cleaned up during the coarse of our meal. The food was cold or warm at best. There were empty spots all over the buffet and very few of them were ever filled. When they were, people pounced on the buffet because everyone was waiting for food. There was actually a group standing around the buffet our entire meal that was waiting on fresh food of some sort to come out.

Our server was somewhat rude and inattentive. The characters stopped just long enough to take a picture and sign our kid's books. Then Mickey flat out skipped us due to their little dance thing. It took two requests for him to finally be escorted over so we could see him.

DH and I had been to Disney before but this was our kid's first trip. We went in with average expectations. I had read the good, the bad and the ugly of CM's and I still stuck with it as I think it is one of those places that you have to try at least once. But once was enough for us. We found better buffets, character interaction, wait staff and overall meals elsewhere on property so we truly cannot justify going back.

IMHO your family will really enjoy dinner at CM. Even my husband enjoyed the food. We had great interaction with the characters even though we weren't in the main dining area. My kids, me too, can't wait to go back. We actually prefer CM to CP.

Thanks for the help as I said the 2 younger ones LOVE MICKEY so I will stick with it our dinner is later I think like 7:30we will be eating there after going to the Animal Kingdom,we can't wait to go.Last years trip was canceled due to the baby coming 1st girl in 26 yrs in our family she is just a wee bit spoiled she will have her princess outfit on at least one day.thanks again Brooklynheights

I don't really know what to tell you. I've been there once for breakfast and we enjoyed it. The food was good, the characters were fun, the gummy bears were plentiful.

However my friend who usually goes every year said after this past experience she will never go back. She said the food was inedible, greasy and no fresh. She said the characters were all so rushed, she literally said goofy went by so fast that the picture came out a blur. She even complained to the manager who literally took out a pad and wrote "goofy" on it.

It sounds to me like this past year has not been a good year for chef mickeys. However i've never heard anyone tell me it was dirty.

Our experience is that this problem has been going on for much longer than this past year. We started noticing things going downhill in the early 2000s and have stopped going there completely in the mid 2000s. There is nothing that I have read on the DIS that has convinced me to give it another try.
