Catch "Pub Night" on the 7 night Magic, if you can

Normally, I would not be attracted to something called Pub Night, but people on the DIS recommended trying it, so we did. I am endorsing that recommendation, in this forum, in case you didn't see it.

The first song was fairly "traditional" - something they said was sung in Irish pubs.

I don't recall how many they did, but they became progressively funnier, including David's rendition of the Beer Song, captured here, in crib note style, for those who didn't take notes, but want to impress their friends, sung to the tune of "Do, a deer...." from "The Sound of Music."

Do - what I buy beer with.....
Ra - the guy I buy my beer from
Me - the guy I buy my beer for
Fa - the distance to the store
So - I'll have another beer
La - la la la la la BEER!
Ti - No, I'll have a beer
Do - what I ran out of

The finale was very amusing - I can't recall the lyrics, but the execution was very funny, especially the tennis guy.

He was very good, by the way. If his career goal is Cruise Director, he is definitely earning his stripes.

p.s., Pictures are "clarity challenged" because we are not allowed to use flash....
.

Actually, it was
SO, I'll have another beer (on our cruise, your experience may have differed)
LA la la la la la BEER!
And I have one comment....If I were not upon the sea......

Yes, David is definitely able to be the next Christiaan if he desires....we loved him. We are the ones who are not allowed to flash.

  • I will update the first post with your more complete lyrics for SO and LA
  • Could you elaborate on the "If I were not upon the sea"?
  • What do you mean about not being allowed to flash?

Thanks for the info. Not something I would probably go to just reading the Navigator.

I posted it here, because I benefited from another disser recommending it. After the first song, I was wondering why they recommended it. By the end, I understood.

One of the things I find most helpful about the disboards is that there are enough pictures and/or commentary to encourage me to try something that doesn't look enticing on the surface.

"If I were not upon the Sea" is the title of a piece that is done at pub night. Some of the above pictures are from that number.

The "flash" comment is a play on words. Please remember that Pub Night is an "ADults only" event, and is the one time when my crew WAS carded. It is Disney, but only barely. Yes, what is "flashed" is covered, but.....you have to see it.

SO and La were my update....

It was
SO, I'll have another beer
La, la la la la la BEER!

It was done that way intentionally in the song.

The skit "If I Were Not Upon The Sea" dates back a good 20 years or more, on other cruise lines. Disney has just recently....in the past 3 years or so, picked it up. I think they probably had thought it too "racy" for DCL.
There is a book by the same title written by a former Cruise Director on another line. It's a really good read.
The author is Joyce Gleeson-Adamidis.

The first time I ever saw it on DCL...and I think the first time they ever performed it, they did it in the Walt Disney Theater on the 11 Night Southern Caribbean cruise, and it was Brent wearing the pink tu-tu. It was absolutely hysterical, and although I've seen it several times since then, none of them will match up to that first one.

It is definitely a not-to-miss show!

They also do this on the 4 night Wonder, but I believe it's called the "Cruise Staff Happy Hour" or something to that effect.

Love it, love it, love it.

Dig, daggety, dog, I DIDN'T go because I thought it sounded "odd." David is, indeed, the King rockstar of Rockin Bar D'. I tried like heck to dance my way to a free shot one night, and a "spa certificate" the next, but to no luck. He gave the dance award to an octogenarian with a cane who was out boogy-ing so I was ok with that :thumbsup2

wasn't that 11 Night Southern Cruise in September 2006? I know they had it in August 2006 and April 2005. My friends and I couldn't go in 2005, since we were all only 17-16 at the time but when I went in August 2006 I went with the college group. So it has at least been around since April 2005

I've said it before and I'll say it many, many times again....Pub Night is the funniest thing you'll find on the ship.

It was. And you could be right. But we've cruised on the Magic every year since 2003, and I had never seen this skit done before the 11 Night, nor seen pictures or heard about it on the DIS. They probably did do it for the 10 Night Southern, which was before the 11 Night. :confused3

We only missed it on our first cruise because we didn't know about it. And I swear it gets funnier and funnier every time!

I dont know when they really started it, but we saw it on the crew's talent night on the EB PC Repo in 2005.It was done in the WDT.

Ann :lmao:

well I know the did it in April 2005 because my friends and I weren't allowed in, but we waited outside and got pictures with them all after and August 2006 for sure
