Case of water with porters?

I was talking to a friend who just recently went on a cruise out of Port Canaveral and she said she took a case of water and put a luggage tag on it and gave it to the porters at the curb and all was fine. I know we are not allowed to put liquid in our checked bags but is the "in the open" case of water allowed?

I really don't want to lug around a case of water for 2-3 hours before our room is ready.

Thanks for any information.

Off hand I am not sure. However realistically, what are the chances that the case gets broken up on accident. With that said, what we normally do, is to take our liquids and place them in a small roll on bag. Same bag on the way out is now a souvenier bag.

As was stated, the porters (while unionized workers who make a decent wage) will *want* a tip so they will not turn down a case of water.

HOWEVER... DCL's policy is no. The luggage IS piled up, not always neatly, so yes, if a heavy enough bag were to land on it, the water could break. And the tag leads them right to your cabin so they know exactly who to come to if other people's luggage is damaged. Someone on here once reported someone in a cabin down the hall from theirs was called out and to the luggage bin because their red wine had damaged luggage for at least one other person, and they were basically told they had to make it up financially to the person and if they did not cooperate they would be escorted off the ship.

I have had my bag show up at my room with some of my stuff wet from water and another time damp from beer that some one did not want to follow the rule " carry on all drinks"....nothing like having to spend your first day on the ship doing laundry!

Based on the pictures alone :crazy2:, we are opting NOT to send a case of water through with the porters.....

Thanks for all of the replies.

Heck based on the pictures above I'm almost inclined to keep all our luggage WITH us until it's time to go to our room! :crazy2::rolleyes1

Unfortunately you can't!! Only bags that fit through a standard sized x-ray screener can be carried onboard. Anything bigger has to be checked. But in all honestly, I guess we have been lucky in all our cruises and never had damaged bags.

I had some FE gifts ruined, because someone did not want to follow the rules. they got wet by some liquor. I was lucky that I packed extra

Truthfully, you don't need to bother with a case of water. Just bring an empty bottle or 2 and fill it on the ship. The water on the ship is filtered as well if not better than the bottled water you buy.

It's OK for some, but not for all. It's basically normal water, filtered. (or desalinated water)

For some of us, that doesn't work. Natural spring water, not filtered municipal water or water from the workings of the ship etc, is better for some of us. So if you're bringing Dasani, then it's no better or worse than the ship (Dasani is local-to-the-bottling plant municipal, filtered, water). But if you're bringing spring water (Crystal Geyser, Evian, etc) then that's different.

???? I don't think I understand. ....if dcl doesn't allow it, but the non dcl employee porters are taking and checking in a case of water. .......why does a dcl employee deliver it to the stateroom? Why isn't it confiscated, and the passenger called to the naughty room?

sometimes they are but things are so rushed that day I am sure things get missed. When were on the Fantasy 2 weeks we saw the porters up on the stateroom floors helping to deliver the luggage.

Well, it does happen, but generally that case of water will just be picked up (and tossed) into the pile to be delivered by the CMs onboard. Again, if there are breakage issues and leaking, you will be called upon to pay for any damages.

People break the rules on the ship all the time. Saving seats in the theater, saving seats by the pool, smoking on the verandas. And then complain!!!! loudly where called on it. Disney doesn't want to "ruin" anyone’s vacation so they sometimes don't enforce rules on some small things.

I have seen adults screaming at the employees running the Mickey slide or Aquadunk because their child did not meet the height requirement. Disney does enforce the rules on safety issues.

I get a 28 pack of water from Walmart (4.00) and put in a duffle bag type bag with wheels. Pretty much the water is the only thing that fits. We board and immediately go up to Cabanas for lunch. We have a couple of shoulder carry-ons that we take along also, so I watch the bags while the DW gets her food. After she returns I get my food. And seriously, there is no problem rolling the bag behind me until the 1:30 room opening. And, everything is done to DCL policy and I don't need to worry about the water bursting in a bag.

Very, very easy to do.
