Carnival Destiny, anyone?

After two wonderful cruises on the Wonder, we are thinking of cheating on our true love... Why? Because the itinerary of the Carnival Destiny is really interesting - San Juan, St. Thomas, Martinique, Barbados and Aruba.

But, after cruising with Disney, we are not so sure that we would enjoy cruising with Carnival.

Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks!

We have cruised Disney the last 4 years, one 3 day and three 7 day (2 Eastern and 1 Western) and have always had a great time.....I believe Disney will be adding San Juan and Antigua next year and will probably do cruise number 6 then w/Disney......you can't beat the service they provide on board......I may missing out what the other lines have to offer, but, am extremely happy with what Disney does.

We have done carnival once and never again......it was nothing like disney. the ship we were on was one huge drunken party-people running down the halls screaming (with laughter not being chased by a psychopath) in the middle of the night, not my cup of tea at all. Also, I don't know where you live but you do need to factor in the airfare to SanJuan for that cruise, for us it is MUCH cheaper to fly to orlando than puerto rico.

My experience was not that of the poster above on Carnival.

We have been on 2 Carnival cruises and have really enjoyed both of them (and we aren't really drinkers or gamblers)! I actually found the service we received on Carnival superior to that we received on the Magic about a month ago. (Given a different dining service crew and a couple of more issues resolved, the Magic would have been fine). With the exception of Palo (which had excellent service), the only difference was Mickey.

I think any cruise is what you make of it. Our Disney cruise didn't come close to meeting our basic expections, but we still had a good time regardless.

Just my 2 cents.

I think you'll enjoy your Carnival cruise. While I haven't been on that line myself, they are very popular with the people I work with. They have commented on the difference in behavior on the shorter cruises, which do tend to be more of the frat house atmosphere (the shorter cruises are very popular with college age and singles) and the longer cruises.
The ships look pretty in pictures, I think they lack the style of the Magic or Wonder, though:)
Don't go with any pre-conceived notions...any vacation is what you make of your time while on it. A day at sea or any of those beautiful ports beats a day at work:D

Have fun,

We've done cruises on Carnival, Norwegian, Royal Carribean and Disney and so far they have all been fun! We sailed on the Destiny 3 years ago and had a great time on her. We have gone with kids and without on the other ships (only with kids on Disney) but they have enjoyed Camp Carnival as much as the Disney ships and sometimes a little more because there was more structured time on the Carnival ships where they werent just left to "fend for themselves" like they were on our Disney cruise last November. There is a casino on the Destiny and you do have to walk through it with kids which wasnt bad but different. The Destiny is huge and while it isnt the same as the Disney ships it is glittery and fun. The meals we have had on all the cruises are about the same in quality. I think like the one poster said the real main difference is having Mickey or not having Mickey. Carnival has GREAT waterslides that any adult or child can go on (older child I believe age 4 and up) which are alot of fun but the pools are salt water not fresh. The shows arent Disney shows and can get a little risque but our kids never wanted to go to them anyway. My feeling is you never know about an experience until you try it. If you go with an open mind and dont try to compare it with other trips it will be fun. We have fun as a family or couple on any vacation because it is much better than being home going to work or the grocery store. A vacation is what you make it. I would say go for it. We have had great times on all of our cruises though some were better at some things and others at other things.
