We are thinking about a trip to Cape May Cafe New England Clam Bake Dinner. Does anyone know if it is any good? Have any pics? Other sites haven't rated it too well.

Thanks in advance to all who respond. It is well appreciated!

People tend to be down on it - for me the chowder (so chock full of small clams) makes it worthwhile alone. I also like any excuse to stop by the Beach Club Resort. It's a must for me.

We ate there in June. We had one of the earliest ressies, so we were seated very quickly. The lines did get a little long, but everything kept moving. As for the food, we liked it. We are a family of picky eaters and there was something for everyone. Steamed clams is a treat for us, so DD and I loaded up. I'm sorry I don't have pics. We were so into the eating and drawing on the tables, that we completely forgot to take pics. They have the paper table cloths and crayons. My family loves to draw. :lovestruc

The veggies were good. We especially liked the corn-on-the-cob and mashed potatoes. I really liked the salad area. It was a very warm day, so I didn't really want a lot of meat. (Except for clams and shrimp) The salads worked great for me. DH said the meat was good.

Service was great. We had drinks before we really needed them and she was very knowledgeable about the food.

Ok the best part were the desserts. I love the places that have lots of different little desserts. I can load up and not feel that I have eaten that much. Which, of course, I have. :rotfl:

Is this the best place I have ever eaten? No, but it was good. It was a relaxed atmosphere. I didn't feel rushed. Everyone at the buffet were polite and waited their turns. There were lots of CMs around to help if you needed it. I will go back but only after I have tried a few new places to eat. :cloud9:

I hope this helps.

We wondered how it was too with all the mixed reviews I've seen over time but we love it...The buffet is huge and it satisfies our non-fish eaters as well as those who love fish. Try it...you may like it.

The quality seems to vary quite a bit from day to day, but we've had more positive experiences there than not.

Keep in mind it's a "clam bake" in name only. A more accurate term might be "Buffet with some clams if you want them". (Not as catchy, I admit :) )

There are plenty of non-seafood choices to please most everyone.

Still, I've read some fairly bad reviews from some folks whose opinions I trust, so it's hard to recommend it 100 percent.

We ate there last trip and really liked it so we'll be eating there again in Sept. There is enough variety that everyone can find something they like. It's probably not the best buffet on the planet but it's very good. This link has pix of all the disney restaurants, just scroll down or 'find' Cape May.

My husband and I really enjoy the food there, but we love steamed clams and we get our money's worth when we eat there.
The last time we ate there I was getting embarassed at the number of clams my husband ate.
The desserts are very good too.
I made a reservation there for my brother and his family and me for our trip in October. I'm looking forward to eating there again.

LOL. My name for it woudl be "Buffet with a whole lot of clams if you want them".
The supply never gets too low.

We ate there on 8/21. We were seated shortly after they opened. The place was packed with in minutes of opening. It seemed to me that people could not wait to get to the buffet. The chef could not keep the metal pails stocked fast enough. My family would eat there again.

Just a few pictures from our trip last year.

We really enjoy it and are eating there again next week. :dance3:

Who ever compiled the pics by restaurant from the food porn thread (see notaclue's post above) is completely awesome! That is a great way to see if you want to eat there! Wow!

it's one of my favorites, and I'm not a huge shellfish fan!

Just don't go within the first 20 minutes of it opening. The lines get really bogged down with everyone trying to get their food at the same time.

That *IS* an AMAZING link ! :worship:

Wow. I didn't even know that existed.

I think alot of the bad reviews are coming from people who expect it to be an all seafood buffet. There is some, but also prime rib, ribs. pasta, chicken etc.
I've been there several times and I've never been disappointed. It is a must do every trip.:thumbsup2

In 2007 we did buffets at CP, H&V, Boma, and Cape May - and we've done Chef Mickey's twice in the past - and the one place everyone wanted to go back to this year was Cape May. We did it twice and everyone enjoyed it, including DD17 "I'm a vegetarian who doesn't like most vegetables." Truly something for everyone. Kids claim that the Cape May mac & cheese is best on property. I thought it was all the same, but they claim otherwise.
