Canadian Buffoon's Disney With a Teen Vacation - 08/13 - The Wrap

So it's a date, then? :)

Sure thing! If I can ever start to think of my solo trip or future ones, we will have to set up a DIS meet if you'll be there, as well! :)

I think I read before you made your way to Cleveland, OH area before- I'm south of CLE!!

But she's a teenager and you can't make them do anything.
("Honey... breathe.".... face turns blue.)

So true. But with mine, that started at a much earlier age, and just hasn't stopped!

I just love the attention to detail.
No matter what direction you look, you'll see something interesting.

::yes:: Definitely my favorite thing about WDW.

So when I spotted the same drums, I asked her to go and pose.

Kinda wishing I had thought to recreate a few of my favorite photos from our first trip on our second trip, now...

irene_dsc - 10:01, EE, Mickey Bar - 5 points (feeling generous)

Thank you for your generosity! :)

Bonus questions, round 3!
What park are we going to? (This should be an easy one... if you've read my last TR.)
Where's our ADR?
We get a new room! Where is it?
(Partial points for Which building, Which side, Which floor (you got a hint on that one)
example 50s, Lake view, 3rd floor)

Um, I really don't remember, but the group consensus seems to be DHS, so I'll go with that. And Sci-fi, since you've said repeatedly this is not *your* trip. I could be wrong, but that's just my guess.

And...60's, lake view, top floor...because of course, you had to keep going up and down all those stairs!

Don't really have the time to make a full comment, exams tomorrow. Been studying all weekend!

What park are we going to? DHS
Where's our ADR? 50's PT
We get a new room! Where is it? 70's, Lake View, Top Floor

I'm going to guess HS along with several other folks (although my gut tells me to say EPCOT cause it is my favorite park as well as yours I believe) and because you enjoyed your time there so much last time you went back to 50's Primetime to be belittled.
As far as room, they upgraded you to that room at the Grand Floridian!! Nah just kidding, that would be amazing if they did though. My real guess is 50's building, pool view, top floor.

I love your theories on Dinosaur Extinction. Seem plausible to me.

I know, right? I mean, what else could it be??? :confused3

Though after reading Dinotrux by Chris Gall (over and over and over and over to my boys) I kind of believe that theory for extinction as well. So I might not be the most reliable resource.

 Okay, I'll take that into consideration.
But maybe that makes you more of an expert.

It would kill me to get into a long line like that when I could hop into the Single Rider, but I completely understand what Kay means. It's not as fun alone. There is something to be said for enjoying the time together- even if it isn't necessarily optimizing every minute attraction wise, I do feel like it optimizes every minute bonding wise. Sometimes those moments end up being some of my favorites from the trip!:goodvibes

True. I just did a solo trip and missed sharing experiences with someone.
So now I've got Kay along and I'm suggesting just that!

Okay . . . For my guesses.
I think you are going to Epcot (I have no reason to base this, as even though I read your last report, I can't remember nearly any of it. I should have that checked. . . ) You are going to eat at Via Napoli (because I am craving their pizza right now). And your room will be in the 50's section, with a pool view, and on the 3rd floor.

Noted.

Sure thing! If I can ever start to think of my solo trip or future ones, we will have to set up a DIS meet if you'll be there, as well! :)

Deal! Although I have no idea when I'll be getting back there.
Might be a while.

So I just missed you!
Don't know if I'll ever be headed out that way again,
but you never know.
I do like to drive, so...

But you might have to fight off @orangecats2,
she'll probably want me all to herself.

It's a nice harem, but very possessive.

So true. But with mine, that started at a much earlier age, and just hasn't stopped!

 I think we knew we were in trouble with Kay
when she was about two years old.
OMG. So stubborn!

Kinda wishing I had thought to recreate a few of my favorite photos from our first trip on our second trip, now...

So now you can recreate first to second to third trip photos.
See? It all works.

And technically, that's what I did.
We didn't recreate first to second either.

A "kid" who always wants critters. Yes, kid...

Hmmmm...... you have "kid" in quotes there.
BGirl?
Or.... Grumpy???

Good thing I reminded you. Wouldn't want to leave it out.

I almost did!

Frozen Goats
Now, I know there’s a “Frozen” reindeer. That’d be Sven. But I wasn’t aware of the “Frozen” goat. Could that be Ollie? No… too close to Olaf; it must be named Ingmar than.

"He is Ollie, you are Sven…"

Dang shame I couldn’t find a vid of them singing “I Love My Vilma” (but I did try)

Oh, wait!
It’s actually called “Ey Yi Yi Wilma”, and I did find it… here…
(but the video that goes with it is a completely bazar collection of things – so you were warned)

Now how did I get off on that tangent?

I opened my eyes and tried to figure out
why I was only a few inches away from the door.
Hay, beats waking up inches away from The Loo…
(with no memory of how you got there)

Kay likes to sleep. She likes to sleep late.
I know, I know...
I've shocked you all, haven't I.
"A teenager who likes to sleep in!?!?"
I’m just plum dumbfounded, myself

Hard to believe, but true.
What did Iago call it; “Not Surprise”?

So I got myself ready to go, then woke Kay up at 9:30.
And she didn't complain. She just got up.
missed-it-by-that-much-o.gif

(now, there was a bit of obfuscation in that question though :rolleyes1 )

I told Kay that I was going to head down to the food court
to grab us some mugs.
Since we had the free dining plan, mugs were included.
Nice little extra perk right there.
That's a $783.95 savings right there!
That’s the exchange rate working for you there, I’m figuring.

And skipped over to the food court.
(Don't judge. I was happy, okay?)
No, no… no judgment…
just assuming that the heat hadn’t really picked up yet.

Whoa.
That place was packed!
::yes:: rope drop matters in the resort dining halls just as much as the parks.
(something I’ve re-re-learned fairly often)

Uh, oh. There are different colours to choose from.
I know enough not to pick Kay's colour for her.
If that were to become a bonus question, I’d be voting that she chooses black.
(well, that’s what I’d pick – assuming it was an available option of course)

By this time, I had already remembered what I had forgotten.
Dude! It’s too early in the morning for such abstract philosophy…
At least wait until after I’ve had my coffee.

A teenager is kind of like an old car.
Completely unreliable. And when it does work, you're a little surprised.
I like the analogy, but…
Maybe more like a brand new Yugo. Still unreliable, still surprised when it works, and…
you’ve still got to make all the payments.

I headed over to the gift shop, hoping to find something.
And lo and behold... they had moleskin!
Good planning on your part and theirs.

I did go towards the elevators, but I took the stairs anyways.
And that’s three

The official loathing of the stairs starts a little later.
Staircases-In-Movies-Videos.png

Venkman: “Where are we?”
Stantz: “Looks like the mid-teens. “
Venkman: “Well, when we get to twenty let me know. I'm gonna throw up.”

I briefly explained how the tapstiles worked to Kay,
I love that name for the contraptions.

we swiped, got fingerprinted for the FBI and we were in!
“…always watching”

"But I want to ride this one. I don't care if we have to wait."
I predict we’ll be hearing variations on that sentence more than once on this trip.
And of course you waited (it’s written in the daddy bylaws)

1. As the dinosaurs evolved, their societal conventions developed.
They eventually learned self-organizing relationships and recreational activities.
And considering how long it took to get from outside this building,
where the combined heat and humidity caused me to leak from every
conceivable pore, to the interior where the air conditioning saved my life...
I'm quite convinced that Dinosaurs may have become extinct
by standing in line in the heat until they died.

2. Again, the dinosaurs evolved. They had millennia to do so.
Is it really so hard to believe that given vastly more time,
they evolved societies to parallel our own?
The alphabet, writing, records, internet, cell phones.
I'm pretty sure that it's possible that while updating Facebook
and posting dino-selfies ("Look! A raptor's biting my leg! Isn't that cool?")
they became so involved that they began to die off by walking off of cliffs,
or in front of dino-busses, etc.

Yes, they're theories. But they're scientifically sound ones.

ee7a3820a7f2ab141e2af8626f601fa1.jpg

But you'll notice in the shot below, that she's holding my hand.

Still Daddy's little girl.
Melts my heart.
PhotoPass_Visiting_Disneys_Animal_Kingdom_Park_7457152654_zpswzxrbnhf.jpg

Yes it does.
(love the quizzical expression you brought out there as well… nicely done)

We had a very nice meal with them and we chatted about this and that.

DSC09373_zps5321zrab.jpg

“This and that” always needs to be chatted about. Cool that you got to meet up.
Good choice on the local as well. That’s some of the best QS dinning on World.

Now, with our hunger satiated,
Oooooo… is that anything like slaked?

Now how shall I put this...
One must be delicate, yet descriptive.
Respectful, yet informative.

It looked like she was farting puffy clouds.
That’s one way to put it…
I wasn’t even there and I don’t belive I be able to un-see that.

"Dad." She said. "I came to Disney with you. I don't want to ride by myself.
I want to ride with you!"
Awwwww…
(and she invoked that contractual obligation again; obviously she’s read the fine print)

Lost expedition? Uh, oh. What are we doing???
Oh, just a little jaunt over to Forbidden Mountain.
(I’d tell you that you’ll never make it to Everest, but that might be interpreted as a bit of a spoiler).

Just going on one of Disney's best rides... That's what!
Oh, well yeah… that too I suppose.

The upshot is, that meant a trip up to Rafiki's Planet Watch.
We had done this when she was four...
Cool… we haven’t done that one since my boy was about six.
My but that was a good long while ago…

Now these drums are kinda special.
I have to stay away from those…
I’ll spend too much time on ‘em if I get started.

(and little kids start whining to their parents:
“Moooom… Daaaaad… That big ugly old man won’t share the drum!”)

She didn't keep up with the drumming, but since then she has learned,
or is learning to play, two types of clarinet, the saxophone and the guitar.
Yep. That kind of thing can happen (and I’ve got the tuition bills to verify it)

Disney interactive drum displays…
the musician’s gateway drug.

I guess I don't really think of a train ride at Disney as simple transportation.
It's a ride.
Yes it is!
Walt says so!
And so do I, so there!
And monorails are rides too.

Compare the smile on her face at age 14...

DSC09404_zpsxbfq0xio.jpg

and at age 4.

DSC09404b_zpsjhuhcync.jpg
Pretty similar, don't you think?? :goodvibes
Yes I do…
Thanks for that… I may be presumptuous to say so, but
I believe we may all have gotten a similar :goodvibes set of feels for those two pics.

…to see the other animals like this moo-moo cow (technical term,)
Nice to see that you’re maintaining very high standards for factual and technical excellence in this here TR.

"I can't move! I've got a frozen goat here!"
If only I had a quarter billion dollars for every time I’ve heard someone say that

so I backed away from the goat…
Oh please tell me that now free of support, gravity took over…
and it toppled over - still frozen - and did a full barrel roll.

…It still didn't move.
Awwwww…
But it’s still mightily funny.

We laughed about the frozen goat for the rest of the day.
And we’ll be laughing about it for the rest of the TR
(and into your next one if we’re so lucky)

Heck if you mention it, you might even get a bonus point or two.
Hay, remember when you ran across that frozen goat?
Good times… good times.

Did I mention it was hot?
Hummmm… I’m trying to think…
Ya’ know what? I believe that it’s just possible that you did.
Now, I’ can’t be positively certain of it, but there is this slight chance that you just might…
Might, mind you… have said something about it at some point in the past.

I'm almost ashamed to admit that I've never had one of these.
I mean... it's almost synonymous with Disney snacking, right?
Got that one at least (good thing I didn’t go with the frozen goatcicle on a stick over the more traditional chocolate covered ice-cream Mickey head on a stick)

I probably haven't mentioned this, but it was pretty hot.
Which explains why a bite took precedence over a picture.
My-Bum-Hurts.png

She figured it would be nice to sit and enjoy our snacks.
And she was right.
It was a very nice little interlude.
Have I mentioned that she's smarter than her dumb ol' man?
I’m pretty sure we’d have gleaned that fact out of the story line eventually.

That’s a great picture, right there.

And… proof that calm, quiet (and even relatively crowd free) moments are possible.
Even at WDW

Bonus questions, round 3!
What park are we going to? (This should be an easy one... if you've read my last TR.)
I’m going with Hollywood Studios this time around.

Where's our ADR?
Hummmmm… well if I got the park right, I’m thinkin’ Kay might see the SciFi Diner as a bit of a hoot…
and as such, Daddy would surely be accommodating, so we’ll be going with that one.

We get a new room! Where is it?
(Partial points for Which building, Which side, Which floor (you got a hint on that one)
example 50s, Lake view, 3rd floor)
Well, you’re in a “preferred” room now (which should limit where they might move you and rule out the 80s, 90s, half the 70’s, 2/3 of the 50s and most of the water views). I suspect that y’all started off in Building-5 as well (and just as a wild guess, it’s possible that you may just have been in room 5403 or maybe 5405, but that’s just a 2-in-144 hunch there). I also suspect that they aren’t going to move y’all very far if they don’t have to. So with all that pointless nonsense as my bases of purely scientific recollection (and a useful smoke screen while in actuality I was merely throwing random darts at an inverted map of Pop Century printed up in 2001), let’s just say that…

y’all remain on the top floor, still in the 60’s (probably building-5) and still overlooking the pools.
(now to wait and see just how spectacularly wrong I am.)

Ah, yes. The cot.
I actually slept quite well on it, thank you CM who sent it.
And the reason my alarm didn't go off is because it was 8:44am.
I had set it for 9:00.
How did you manage to stay asleep so late????

Kay's standard "get ready" time is an hour.
Possibly more.
Probably more.
:rotfl2:

I zipped down the stairs,
(of course I did. It's my first day at Disney! Energy to spare!)
And skipped over to the food court.
(Don't judge. I was happy, okay?)
What? No sashaying?

Whoa.
That place was packed!
That's what happens when you wait till 9:00... :rolleyes1

A teenager is kind of like an old car.
Completely unreliable. And when it does work, you're a little surprised.
:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

Kay took this one.
(She asked for photo credit, so there ya go.)
Great shot, Kay!

And I took that one:
That one's ok too.

I suppose everyone else is off riding EE or KS.
As they should be.

As we approached the ride, I looked up at the posted wait times.
50 minutes!!!
For Dinosaur?????? :faint:

Nope!
Nope. Nope. Nope.... nope!
I do not stand in line for nearly an hour.
Heck, I don't stand in line for half an hour!
That's why I do rope drop.
That's why I make FPs.
That's why I do single rider lines.

"Okay, Kay. It's gonna be about an hour in line.
But we can do single rider line at EE."

"But I want to ride this one. I don't care if we have to wait."

So we waited.
And this, Kay, is why Dad likes to get up before 9:00 at Disney World.

The CM motioned to the line.
The man entered the line and stopped.
"I can't navigate this! Don't you have some place for handicapped people?"
"Sir, there's room in this line."
"There's no way I can manoeuver through there!"
He then made a very nifty three point turn and exited the queue.
"It's unbelievable that Disney won't accommodate the handicapped!" He declared.
And then he scooted off in search of a ride with a more easily cowed CM.
:sad2:

Plausible...

2. Again, the dinosaurs evolved. They had millennia to do so.
Is it really so hard to believe that given vastly more time,
they evolved societies to parallel our own?
The alphabet, writing, records, internet, cell phones.
I'm pretty sure that it's possible that while updating Facebook

they became so involved that they began to die off by walking off of cliffs,
or in front of dino-busses, etc.
Ok... I'm stuck on this one thought now... You're talking about dinosaurs and selfies. And now I've got a picture in my head that is cracking me up.

Just imagine it.

A T-Rex.

An iPhone

An attempted selfie

The T-Rex goes off in a fit of rage, leading to the downfall of dinosaur society as a whole.

She is like a lot of teens. Too cool for her parents.
But you'll notice in the shot below, that she's holding my hand.

Still Daddy's little girl.
Melts my heart.
Awwww....

When we exited the ride, she began to speak excitedly.
"That was fun! That wasn't at all like I remembered it!
I was really scared at first! But it was fun! I wasn't scared at all!
I really liked it!"
(And she meant it. It became her #4 favourite ride.)
I'm glad that she enjoyed it so much. And that it was apparently worth the 45 minute wait.

(She must have good eyes... or mine are worse than I thought... probably the latter.)
Well...

so we ordered the Ribs & Chicken combo and the Jerk Chicken Salad.
For dessert (free dining!) we got the Lime mousse and Chocolate mousse.
Everything was good, too!
We were pleasantly stuffed by the end of our meal.
The food there really is great. One of my favorite counter service meals in the parks. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

We were going to conquer Everest or die trying.
Literally. It was that hot.
I thought Everest was cold? :rolleyes1

Remember the chafing? So did she.
But she came prepared!
She liberally applied some baby powder to the affected area.
Not sure how, exactly.
Was it a squeeze bottle? Did she fan it towards the appropriate location?
I don't know.
All we saw was a burst of baby powder come shooting out between her legs.

Now how shall I put this...
One must be delicate, yet descriptive.
Respectful, yet informative.

It looked like she was farting puffy clouds.

I was really hoping to see a rainbow between her knees.

Alas, no such luck.
:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

This had me rolling. Literally laughing out loud at my desk.

"Dad." She said. "I came to Disney with you. I don't want to ride by myself.
I want to ride with you!"

Well, I can hardly fault that logic.
"Are you sure? It's a 40 minute wait. Single rider would be just a few."
That's sweet! And shocking. But mostly sweet. Take it while you still can!

(Don't let her expression fool you. She's a teen, gotta look cool.
But when the camera was gone, she was gushing about it non-stop.
And why is she not sweating? I was a mess and she still looks beautiful!)
She's 14. She's not old and out of shape yet.

Just going on one of Disney's best rides... That's what!
Love EE.
Not my favourite coaster, but it's up there.
::yes::

So when I spotted the same drums, I asked her to go and pose.
Love the comparison shots!

Compare the smile on her face at age 14...
Again, Love it.

Uh... okay. Want a scratch there, fella?
<scratch> <scratch>
No movement from the goat.
Maybe a pat?
<pat> <pat>
Nothing.
Um... gotta get going there, big guy.
I gave him a little nudge with my knees.
Nothing. Didn't budge a bit.
Um... nudge him harder. Is it one of those fainting goats???

Kay took another pic but unfortunately accidentally deleted it.
But it would've looked like I'd photoshopped myself out of the picture.
That goat still hadn't moved!
We left the immobilized goat and moved on.
If I just stand here and don't move, maybe the little kids won't come over and pull on my ears.

We laughed about the frozen goat for the rest of the day.
Indeed, even after the trip.
Heck if you mention it, you might even get a bonus point or two.
Still trying to figure out when they moved Elsa over to AK...

I'm almost ashamed to admit that I've never had one of these.
I mean... it's almost synonymous with Disney snacking, right?
::yes:: I should have guessed it. I mean you were going to the hottest park in the history of hot parks.

Have I mentioned that she's smarter than her dumb ol' man?
No. But it goes without saying.

What park are we going to? (This should be an easy one... if you've read my last TR.)
Crap... I read it... but it still isn't easy. I can see an argument for any of the 3. But I'll go with EPCOT.

Where's our ADR?
Teppen Edo... Rose & Crown... Teppan Edo... Rose & Crown...
Ummm... Teppan Edo. :scared:

We get a new room! Where is it?
(Partial points for Which building, Which side, Which floor (you got a hint on that one)
example 50s, Lake view, 3rd floor)
60's, Pool view, third floor. You ain't getting away from those stairs that easy.

So I just missed you!
Don't know if I'll ever be headed out that way again,
but you never know.
I do like to drive, so...

But you might have to fight off @orangecats2,
she'll probably want me all to herself.

It's a nice harem, but very possessive.

Well, whenever you're in my neighborhood, let me know and then you can "come and knock on my door." ( most should get that reference, not showing me age with that, though since it was before my time.)

Since we had the free dining plan, mugs were included.
Nice little extra perk right there.

Free dining is the absolute best!

That meant that I had to bring our passports with us.
Not a big deal, I just stuffed them in my camera bag.
Had to bring my wallet, too. Don't usually, but... :confused3

Uh oh, do I smell trouble brewing??

We each took another photo.
Kay took this one.
(She asked for photo credit, so there ya go.)

Nice photo skillz Kay!

And I took that one:

How did you get the crowd to disappear??

Still Daddy's little girl.
Melts my heart.

PhotoPass_Visiting_Disneys_Animal_Kingdom_Park_7457152654_zpswzxrbnhf.jpg

AWWW! But the passenger I love is the one in the far back on the left, she looks thrilled!

Literally. It was that hot.
Have I mentioned the heat yet? No?

So was it hot when you were there?

All we saw was a burst of baby powder come shooting out between her legs.

:scared1:
It looked like she was farting puffy clouds.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

She took a pic:

I love getting the red card too! Makes you feel so special

Anyone who isn't impressed with the theming in this ride cue...
100% agree, best theming ever in my opinion

We laughed about the frozen goat for the rest of the day.
Indeed, even after the trip.
Heck if you mention it, you might even get a bonus point or two.
Frozen goat, frozen goat, frozen goat :lmao:

By now, it was getting later in the day and we had to start
heading out for our dinner ADR.
It wasn't in AK, so it was time to go.

DSC09412_zpsg8suvvmx.jpg

I have a photo I took that looks almost identical to this! Perfect photo spot!

What park are we going to? (This should be an easy one... if you've read my last TR.)
Where's our ADR?
We get a new room! Where is it?
(Partial points for Which building, Which side, Which floor (you got a hint on that one)
example 50s, Lake view, 3rd floor)

Next park - Epcot because you ( and Kay) love the Japan pavilion
ADR - Teppan Edo, might as well stay with the Japan theme
New room- 60's, pool view, 3rd floor :bitelip:

Oh, boy.
If you see this first... Good luck with the exams!
And if you don't... Hope the exams went well!

(Exams for what?)

Going to school for computer engineering, had two exams this morning, they went well thanks!

:sad2: I am so, so disappointed. T-Rexs had little arms? Couldn't take selfies?
Why do you think selfie sticks were invented????
Just for these circumstances of course!
As a matter of fact, back in the day they were called Rexie sticks.

(Still.... that was clever of you to think of that. :thumbsup2)

Rexie sticks would have worked! :yay: Except they only had two fingers on each hand. It would have been hard to hold the stick. Let's just assume they evolved more fingers and opposable thumbs. It could have happened. We just haven't seen the fossil evidence of it... yet...

 I wish! No, I didn't.
If I'd had some warning that it was going to happen,
maybe I could've. But I sure wasn't expecting that!!!

Maybe just bring a film crew with you next time.. that way you won't miss anything. Your trip report could be a series of half hour videos on youtube.

Never thought of it that way... but, yeah.
That does make it worth it.
Especially now as I'm sitting here in my environmentally controlled setting.

Just think of it as 45 minutes of waiting for a picture you'll love forever. (Don't feel bad, we waited 2 hrs for pictures with Jack and Sally at the halloween party :crazy2: It was on our list so we didn't have a choice)

::yes:: I want to be one of those people passing by the poor slobs in line!

Definitely... I've gotten so used to never waiting that it stresses me out to get into a standby line.

Sneaking in here and going with EPCOT; I think it's your favorite park. And I think you chose to hit up Teppan Edo because it's showy and ecclectic as I imagine Kay kinda being. If I recall she's REALLY into anime, right? (In a good way!)

My guesses for bonus questions:

So I read the hint that I should go back to day one of your previous trip. If I hadn't done that my answers would have been very different. I would have guessed EPCOT for your park since it has the best restaurants of all 4 parks. MK for BOG would have been an option too but I don't think you planned your trip far enough in advance to get that. I would have said Tutto Italia in Epcot. Great food and value on free dining.

Since I read what you did previously, my guesses are now The Studios for 50's Prime Time.

I know nothing about POP (seeing as I said 3rd floor thinking it was the top floor last time). I'll still say top floor and 80's pool view (if that exists).
