Can we PLEASE just wash our hands?

I've got to say that money is so incredibly filthy! I work in a store office and I have to count all the money from the store to make the deposit. There are days that after counting the money that my fingers are black! :scared1: Imagine if I was one of those crazy people who licked their fingers when counting their money. EWWWW..... Lots of hand washing goes on when I'm done with the deposit that's for sure!
Yeah ... it always kind of makes me chuckle when someone gets all manic about making sure everyone in their group washes their hands and doesn't touch bathroom door handles, but doesn't think twice when those same folks follow that bathroom trip by doing cash transactions with a cashier. The cashier's hands, the money, the cash register, even the keypad on which you enter your PIN, have WAY more germs on them than the handle on the bathroom door. ATMs in particular MUST be just swarming. While most in-store debit card machines have the little stylus you can use to touch-point your PIN, ATMs don't. Not to mention that the money inside is certainly not steamcleaned before going in there. Who knows how many people touched THAT before it got to you. :scared1:

Well your suppose to keep the soap on your hands for at least 30 seconds, so why not wet them scrub, scrub, rub, rub then wash them off? if you need more water just put your hands back under the sink.

There are germs everywhere, we breath them touch them eat them, it hard to avoid them all. I just carry hand sanitizer.

money has old germs on it... and cocaine.

public bathroom door handles have hands touching them from kids who just attempted to wipe themselves and missed... grown women who don't wash afterwards as admitted above... and who knows what else on them. those are fresh germs and bacterias.

Obviously from this topic I am one of the minority.

We wash our hands after using the toilet (my son while at home only uses water as he very bad eczema) and changing the baby.

Other than that we don't worry too much about washing or hand sanitizing. Been to Disney 5 times never been sick.

Been recently on a 3 month journey visiting 3 countries, 14 airports and I lost count of how many hotels. No body got sick.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that people get sick because they have NO immunity for every day dirt and germs because they sanitize everything to within an inch of its life?

Plus if you wash away all the "bad" germs there are heaps of good bacteria that you need that is being sanitized away as well.

I carry wet wipes only because I have two small children and unless they have been touching animals they usually just get used AFTER their meal to clean them up a bit.

Sure we get the odd cough and cold and tummy bug but it seems to be with less regularity than many of the people I see.

I could be completely offbase with my assumptions but our family is pretty healthy.

Clearly their will be people out their with immunity issues that need to take extra precautions but on the whole most people I think are screwing with their own immunity.

Why do you come here with this message of common sense? This party is reserved for those of us that wish to continue to delve deeper into our own irrational and unfounded fears. We don't need your factual advice on germs. We are well aware of these facts. What we need is intensive therapy. Please... someone... help...

I do think you lot across the pond are obsessed with hand washing!

Just wash em and go..... I am more worried about the hand washing habits of the food makers and servers, the people who swipe your credit card or give you change, the sneezing on the buffet, the kids "accidents" you get to sit in on IASW. All those boat rides where you get to walk on by standing on the seat.... eeeeewwwww - hope all those shoes were clean and germ free....

Please also remember - (this is from a dermatologist!) the more you wash your hands the drier your skin can get, dry skin has cracks in it, germs enter the skin more easily through dry cracked skin. Alcohol rubs can exacerbate this drying effect. So don't obsess folks...

You should just never ever leave your home again

Thank you. I never thought about cracked and dry skin harboring even more germs. I will never leave my house again. This thread has been so helpful.

I heard really gross news recently. A lice removal specialist told one of the mothers at my son's school that many of the people he treats for lice, picked it up the lice at Disney World.

Okay, can we please change the subject already?

Wow, last night's game was a blow out. I didn't expect the Dodgers to go so quietly. Congrats all you Phillies fans out there.

iT is the friction of rubbing your hands togrther that kills the germs
not the temp of the water
or the running water.

Wha? That is not right.

I admit to being one of those women who occasionally comes out of the stall and quickly runs water over her hands and then heads out. I've even been known to not wash my hands at all if I'm in a hurry. I don't use paper towel-covered hands to open doors or turn on faucets. (Seems silly to me when I'm probably getting far more germs off the money I get from the ATM -- which is probably never cleaned -- than from the office restroom, which is cleaned every two hours or so.) Oddly, I'm the only one in the office who never gets sick. I don't get colds, don't get the flu, haven't taken a sick day in 17 years. Go figure.

Then again, I don't have kids either, and I think the bulk of communicable diseases are passed around at school and brought home via the kiddos. Either that, or I just have one honkin' immune system!

:earsboy:

Part of the reason you should was your hands is so you don't get sick and the other reason is you don't make other people sick.

So, when you use a public restroom and you don't wash your hands, you are spreading bacteria of your own or that you picked up while pottying to those of us with children who don't have big honkin' immune systems.

How? It's not like I'm going to walk out of the restroom and then go up to your kids and touch their eyes and noses. Usually the only time I'm in a hurry and skip the whole washing thing is when I'm leaving work and getting into my car. So the only person likely to come into contact with all the bacteria I'm spreading is ... well ... me. But really ... I'm just as likely to spread bacteria of my own by running my hands through my hair or scratching a mosquito bite before I shake someone's hand. I could be whistling as I walk through MK and spread as many germs as I could with a cough. And I'll bet that if I walked up to you and handed you a $20 bill that I'd seen fall out of your purse and onto the ground outside Small World, you'd take it without thinking about how much bacteria it may have collected on the ground and / or in my hand.

I'm just saying that people make all this fuss about bathrooms, but they aren't the only places where germs live.

:earsboy:

I just read about a couple different people catching the flu while @WDW in the October happy dance thread. Kinda scary...

I guess the key is just to remember to take care of yourself while you're there. I'll be taking my own arsenal of sanitary wipes, so we'll be ready!
