My Dh and I are sailing on the Dream on Oct 6th for a three day cruise. In Nassau which beach would you choose and why? Also, would the best way to get to either one be a cab? Or should we go to blue lagoon with Disney?
Thanks!

If you want to go to either, there should be plenty of cabs right at the port looking to take passengers there. I've only been to Cable Beach and it is nice, not Castaway though ;)

We were researching the very thing the other day and we are sailing Oct 16. LOTS of sites say the currents at Cabbage beach are HORRID and there have been tons of drownings there from locals and tourists alike. We read BOTH are bad for "unsavory" locals and it's not the safest place. Try local beachfront hotels, most let you use beach (Not chairs) for free or very small fee. They appreciate the patronage from you from their dining/bar areas. You get groomed beach, secure location and lifegaurd...good deal IMO.

Cable beach is nice and you can get there fairly easy. If you are like us and looking for a fun authentic way to get there, take the Jitney! Never felt unsafe and it was more of the authentic local way to go. It costs $1.25 each way. Look for the Jitney #10 on Bay street. Runs frequently. There are various bus stops along the road near the hotels when you leave. On your way back go get some conch fritters to get that whole Bahama vibe.:hippie:

I personally love Paradise Beach. I would take a cab there and ask the cabby to take you to the free beach just past Atlantis. No jitneys to the Paradise Island. We took the ferry over from the port and actually felt more unsafe there than on the Jitney. It is was not much cheaper than the cab and you have to walk through Atlantis to find the beach access. Very confusing and time consuming.

Just went a few weeks ago to the Bahamas on a different cruise line. We went to cabbage beach (no kids) and had a great time. This beach is pretty much in front of the Atlantis - the water is kind of rough but very clear. We had a great time. There were lots of locals trying to sale stuff. We shared a cab with other cruisers coming and going ... cost $4 each way per person. There were several other cruisers there as well including from Dream.

Cabbage Beach is a public access beach sandwiched between the Riu Resort and the Sunrise Beach Club. Both resorts have beachside concessions and rentals. We usually go down in front of the Sunrise, around the massage tables. We have gone several times with our DS9 (starting when he was 6), and we have always enjoyed it.

There are threads here about Cable Beach, which I've never been to... but the pictures look very nice, and I think I recall that the Wyndham there has a casino too. However, I also recall that the resorts charge for beach access (it's not free).
