Blue Lagoon Dolphin Swim or Sea Lion Encounter?

We would love to do one of these but cannot decide which one to do. It would be DH, DS(8) and myself. Blue Lagoon Dolphin Swim or Sea Lion Encounter? If you have done one or both which one did you like better and why?

I did the sea lion swim a couple of years ago and loved it. It's limited to only 6 or 8 people....we had only 5....and it was so awesome. I had no idea that sea lions leap and turn like dolphins, and he pulled each of us along in the water. They had a photographer out there with us the whole time, so we were able to get a DVD. I think it's much more personalized than the dolphin swims. They also let me take my own water-proof camera and take pictures myself.

Thank you :) the more we look into this both of them sound good..... I think that we might do the Sea Lion one :thumbsup2

We loved the sea lions. We just got back Dec 2. They were awesome and one of the highlights from our trip. We did not get to "swim" with them however. We were able to touch them and feed them fish. We also got to get a kiss from the sea lions. Just don't want you to be dissapointed if you think you actually get to swim with them. I would totally do it again.

We did the dolphin swim and LOVED it. It was an amazing once in a lifetime adventure. :) Blue lagoon is beautiful you will enjoy either excursion.

Our family enjoyed the dolphin swim immensely :goodvibes the dolphin "push" was very cool and we were able to take video and still's above and below the water. We also bought the DVD and photo book so we have some great photo's and video's. We plan on doing it again, we love blue lagoon island! Good luck with your choice, and I hope you enjoy your adventure as much as we did. - Alex

I am also undecided about which to do with my DH on our Dream Cruise in March. We wanted to possibly do both and also see Atlantis' "The Dig." With all of the boat transfers from island to island, I do not know if this is possible. Sometimes the alotted times for these types of excursions are over-exagerated, and you are left with a lot of down time. Has anyone ever experienced them both? Or have any other advice to give? Thanks for any and all help!

We met at 9:30 for the dolphin swim and were rushed to make the 1:30 return catamaran. (we viewed our video, bought photos and rushed to board) it might be a stretch to do the sea lions and make the 2:30 return...the next/last return is at 4ish ( I can't remember 4 or 430)

Difficult decision to have to make!
We did the Dolphin Encounter a few years ago - Absolutely Amazing!
Our Son will be 13 on our next Cruise in April. I've booked the Sea Lion Encounter as a surprise for him !

Phil :)

We want to surpise our DS (8) with one but I still do not know which one :confused3 I would love to do the swim but DH would love to see the sea Lions.... Our trip is in May :confused3

Go with the sea lions. You still can see the dolphins and use the beach, which is beautiful. You can swim with dolphins in many locations, but sea lions are not so available. JMO.

My DH and I did the Sea Lion Excursion last January and it was fantastic. Not to say that the Dolphin Excursion wouldn't also be wonderful, but I have a huge love of dogs and sea lions are like dogs that live in the water. Unlike dolphins, sea lions can make facial expressions which adds to their cuteness. The trainer had our sea lion do sound affects that were hillarious and there is nothing like getting a kiss from a sea lion - cold, wet and fuzzy! My DH chickened out and opted for a kiss on the cheek but I did the "lip kiss" and the picture I got of it was so adorable. We are planning on taking our four daughters on the Sea Lion Excursion when we take them on their 1st Disney Cruise on the "Dream" in November of 2011 and they have all told me they want "lip kisses" from the sea lion - those will be priceless photos :goodvibes Whichever excursion you choose, I know you will enjoy it.

We did the dolphin encounter with my kids 7 and 10. They said it was the best moment of their lives! We got some fantastic pictures. Truly a memorable experience.

For some reason you can take your own photos with the dolphins but the sea lion encounters you are not allowed to. Make sure to take some cash or credit card with you so you can purchase theirs they do a good job with the pics. Also pack your camera as you can take photos before and after at blue lagoon of the animals in the water. We got lots of great dolphin shots before we even started our swim.

These are from Discovery Cove in Orlando:-)thumbsup2 great place by the way). The pics are incredible.

We just booked a cruise on the Dream for Nov. and I have a few questions for those who have done the Blue Lagoon Sea Lion and Dolphin Encounters.

Can 1 adult accompany 2 children (ages 7 and 9) during the encounter or does there have to be an adult for each child?

Do you have to drive anywhere to get to the boat that takes you to Blue Lagoon or do you just walk to a different area? If you walk, is the area safe?

We will also have a 3 year old and a 1 year old with us so I would like to avoid driving or buses if possible.

:sad1: That is so sad that you can not take your own video/photo

If you do the encounter you are in shallow water. If you do the swim you have life jackets on so I would think one adults and 2 kids would be allowed.
If you do the dcl excursion you meet on board and they escort you on a short ( 5 min?) walk to the dock where the catamaran is. I'm not sure how you get the other adults/children to accompany. The beach day excursion or the observer pass but i believe they will have register on one of the blue lagoon excursions to join you:confused3
