Bed wetting

My youngest son is 4...completely potty trained except for if he has too much to drink or falls asleep before going to the bathroom, he might wet the bed. I would hate to have to buy pullups for only 8 nights. What do you all do? and if he does wet, how and when do you let mousekeeping know. Thanks for the help.

well you could make sure he does not drink after a certain time and if e does then set your clock to get him up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

good luck

what we do at home is pile on the fleece. I cover the bed in fleece blankets one atop the other and peel the layers off

I use this for tummy bug not urination so it may be too liquid

my 3 year old doesnt usually wet the bed, I have been slightly concerned about this as we dont use pull ups for our trip. I am certain that the staff deals with that kind of thing all the time though.

goodluck

I would pile on the layers as well. Something that we use at my IL's house is a puppy pad, they use them for there dog in the house and when my son sleeps in their bed they put one down on top of the sheet and lay a towel or folded up blanket on it. They work really well! When we go in Feb. I am going to have her bring some (DS almost 5 still has some accidents), b/c I know that he is going to be waaay to tired to get up and go to the bathroom.

What about trying a flat waterproof crib pad. You could either put it under the sheet where needed or just leave it on top. If you put it under, just request and extra sheet from mousekeeping to have on hand if need be. You could get two pads so you'ld have a back up in the middle of the night if an accident did happen.

I have a baby, and I use the waterproof crib pads by Carter's on his changing table (I cut to size). It is "water"proof. Carter's pads are like a heavyduty flannel, they are flat and not quilted so they are fairly compact.

If you search at Babies R Us, "Crib Pad," you can see them. Plus they have ones by another manufacturer actually in a 2 pack.

I totally agree with the first part, but setting your clock to get up in the middle of the night is crazy. No offense to OP. You will wake yourself and everyone else in your party and some may not be able to get back to sleep. I was a bed wetter when I was young. Do the no drinking 2 hours b-4 bed and the rubber sheet thing that someone else posted. With the rubber sheet b/twn the regular sheet and the mattress.

If your child does wet, mousekeeping will change them. I would strip the bed for them first, to make theri life easier and leave them a good tip! Not to mention, make sure your child goes to the bathrrom at least 3 times after the last drink and before going to bed.

LOL my child would FREAK if I woke him up in the middle of the night to potty. I know because when he first pottytrained I tried it! He has never thrown a tantrum in his life, but boy I sure got one that night.

I would either buy a waterproof pad and bring it with or buy a small bag of Pull-ups. Vacation should be stress free!!! But if you think about it, even if you bring a pad with, you will still need to change your child because their pjs and jammies and possibly blanket will be wet. With a pull-up, you won't have that problem.

My DD is completely trained, but occasionally has accidents at night. When we go I bought the nighttime pull-ups (the smallest bag I could find) because I don't want to worry about it. The $9.00 I spent on the pull-ups is worth it.

We just buy the pull ups while on vacation. My DS5 has a bedwetting problem and at home we have a pad from the bedwetting store (sort of like the puppy pads mentioned earlier but washable). You have to change his clothes and replace the pad. On vacation we just put him in the pullups. He gets a better night sleep and so do we.

I also have the bed wetting alarm but we have decided to wait until he is 6 to use it.

We've left a note for housekeeping in past vacations, just asking for new sheets. We've always gotten them, without any problems.

Pull-ups. If you have to put them on him after he is asleep, OK. Stress free. No worries. Hakuna whatever . . . :thumbsup2

After much and I mean over an hour's worth of discussion with my peditrician, there is a medication your child can take. My DS(5) has a very bad bed wetting problem. He can go 2 times a night. He rarely wakes up to use the bathroom anymore. He is a deep sleeper and would not tolerate pull-ups especially since his little brother is being potty trained. I have also done a lot of research about bedwetting. It's genetic. DH and his entire clan had that problem. Getting back to the medication- the dr. said that it mostly occurs in boys and it is hormonal problem. THey do not release the hormone while asleep like the rest of us. Occasional bedwetting is the same problem but them perhaps release some of the hormone. No one knows why this occurs. There is a synthetic hormone (he told me the name of the hormone but I forget what it is called). Once you find the correct dosage for your child, it is 100% effective. The best thing is you don't have to take it every day only the days you need to like on vacation or a sleepover. This is good since I'm not an advocate of medicating kids unless absolutely necessary.

Now we haven't tried it and we're considering seeing the specialist before our Dec. trip. We do the layer thing and leave an extra set of pjs with a towel and wipes by his bed, but at Disney he will need to share a bed and a wet bed is not fun for anyone.

I discussed the medication with my pediatrician. She suggested we try the alarm first. We are waiting to start using the alarm until he is 6.

The good thing is my son has no problem with pullups or just having the pad under him. He usually doesn't wet until right before waking up in the morning. We explained to him that his brain doesn't wake him up and it is no big deal. He seems to take it very well. His father had the same problem. Most likely genetic.

My oldest son wet the bed until his teens. We tried everything--alarms, medication, limiting fluids, walking him to the bathroom. He was such a deep sleeper, he could easily wet 2-3 times a night. We finally resigned ourselves to it and waited for him to outgrow it--he did. Now we're dealing with DS11. Both my DH and my sister wet the bed until well into their teens.

For vacations we always pack a large rubber or vinyl sheet. DS sleeps on a rollaway bed. When he was 6-8 we used Pull-ups. Now they have GoodNights for even bigger kids. We have also used overnight incontinence products in their underwear. If the bed gets wet anyway :confused3 we strip the bed and leave a note for the housekeeper. We don't make a big deal; just put the kid in the shower and clean up. I don't think any of my son's friends ever knew

If you don't have waterproof pads then you could just put a plastic trash bag on the bed and a couple of thick towels on top of it. If an accident occurs then just throw the trash bag out and wash the towels.
