still hoping to do a disney cruise sometime in the next year with dds ages 3 and 5-since we have a lot of flexibility, could you offer any tips on getting the best rate? is it cheapest in a certain month? best to book as far ahead as possible, or are last minute discounts possible? thanks in advance.

Our experience is booking far in advance. Try the first couple weeks of Dec., October, and May. We've gone in May and October and our next one is in Dec. Check out allseasonstravel.com (I think that's right) and they have the fares listed per week. Find the cheapest week and go!

Sept and Oct are hurricane season and kids are back in school, rates are pretty good then. We also found January to be similar in price and great to leave the cold weather. Disney isn't cheap, but some months are better than others. Good luck.

Also, inside cabins are lower priced than outside cabins, verandas are more money than portholes. A lot of people believe since you don't spend a lot of time in your room that cabin type doesn't make a big difference when you are on a budget.

Last minute discounts are apparently rare, often limited (Florida residents) and often only available with no children (they limit the number of kids on the boat to club capacity).

Sept/Oct....and January. These are currently available at $799 per adult, but I've booked them for $599. They are reduced if the dates are approaching and the cruise isn't selling as well as they'd like.

An easy site to check rates is vacationstogo.com. Go to "find a bargain," then to "choose ship". It will show current "cheapest" rates for the rest of 2004.
