We struggled with this too so I'll share my experience but I'm not sure if it will be helpful, as I think if I had to go back and make the decision again knowing what I know now I would still be undecided! We really, really wanted to see Pompeii. We couldn't imagine going all the way to Italy, being so close, and not seeing it. I gave the feedback to more than one ABD rep about how disappointed we were that it was not in the itinerary. It was the only reason I hesitated before booking the ABD add-on. We decided to skip the ABD excursion and did a port excursion just to Pompeii. The port excursion, including the tour guide DCL contracted, etc., really highlighted for us what top-of-the-line quality we were getting with our ABD excursions! Everything was just so-so compared to the service and special attention we had become accustomed to! That said, we saw Pompeii, and it was very cool. It was a bucket list item and I'm glad to have been able to check it off. On the other hand (because there is always the other hand), most of the members of our ABD group sited that day in Capri as their favorite of the whole trip. It was a little sad to get all the pictures as part of our photo CD and see all the fun we had and feel like we missed out. In the end, though, I think that if we had not gone to Pompeii I would still be regretting it. It would still be on my list of places to see, and I would likely be kicking myself for letting the chance pass by. So I don't regret our decision. I just think that whatever you decide, you will have a day that you'll never ever forget.
