Has anyone been to the Atlantis resort in Nassau? If so, did you take the excursions throuh DCL or did you take a cab? I have a DS3 that I think would really have fun there but I didn't really want to take the excursion, I just wanted to go explore the resort at our own pace. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Catch a cab, avoid the water taxi, go on your own.... On the other hand, if you're disabled, take the excursion and guided tour. If DCL can manage to rustle up an accessible cab, you'll need the guide to provide keys to the elevators that service the multi-level site...

If you want to do it on your own you should take a taxi (about $4.00 per person each way) unless you have a room you will not be able to even walk near the pool or slide area. You can buy tickets to the "Dig" which is the aquarium. At last check the cost was $25.00 per adults and $19.00 for kids 3-12. I took us less than an hour to do the aquarium. It is nice but IMHO it is not worth the price. We had a room over at the Comfort Suites next door, which has an agreement with the Atlantis to let you use the pools and slides. The "Dig" is included so for the price of a room at the Comfort suites (off season I paid $125.00) it was only $25.00 more to get the room (family of 4) and we got to use the pools and waterslides for the day than head back to the ship.
The Atlantis has two nice kiddie pools and a lazy river but you have to be a guest to use them. Other then the "Dig" if you are not a guest there is not much more for a 3 year old to do. It can be hard to get around the Atlantis it is huge and not stroller friendly. There are a lot of stairs and few and hard to find elevators.
We always enjoy the Atlantis but we get a room so we can use the whole resort.
What ever you decide to do have a wonderful trip.

That is great information!!! Thank you so much! My parents are also going with us and they want to go to the casino so we will need something to do while they are at the casino. If you have any other tips for me they would be greatly appreciated!!!

We went on our second cruise last October. I ended up booking the Atlantis myself on one of the travel sites, Travelocity, I think. I got a room in the Beach Tower for about $140.00. I just kept checking as it got closer to our trip and booked when the price was low. It was a great deal. We were at the pool all day and had time to shower before heading back to the ship. Family members that were with us who opted to do take the excursion to the beach had it cancelled because of the conditions of the water. We really lucked out! Have a great time!

Not trying to hijack here, but also have some questions on Atlantis...I hope you don't mind

we are going on a 3 night cruise in August and are considering going over to Atlantis to check it out...we have friends that just returned from a vacation there and they raved about Atlantis. It will just be DH and I....if we take a cab over (as previously mentioned), can we just walk around the hotel, go to the casino and beach areas without booking an excursion or a room? It's just the pools, The Dig and the water slide areas we would be excluded from?

The beach is really nice. The sand is soft and there was a slight wave, but not the huge undertow many beaches have. The aquarium was ok. We did the DCL excursion before my ds5 was born. It was about $50 and included the transportation there, access to the beautiful secluded beach, lunch and the aquarium. I saw the prices of the lunch. We got our moneys worth. I think the aqarium was overpriced and our group were sorry we showered and dressed to go through it. We also did a quick trot into the casino. HUGE. Spent $5 and ran back out. We took the boat back and said, "let's see the straw market everybody talks about". ICK. RAN back to the boat and sat by the pool.

I don't mind at all! I have taken the 3 day cruise 6 years ago but it was our very first cruise and I didn't know much about Atlantis or anything in Nassau. (About a week after we got back from the cruise I saw a show on the travel channel about Atlantis) We walked around Nassau for an hour or so and wasn't impressed by any of it so we just spent the day on the ship. I have heard so many things about Atlantis that I am really excited about seeing it this trip.

You can take a cab and walk around the casino and the shopping area on your own. I am not sure how you would access the beach. They stop you and check for wristbands once you get out to the backside (pool and beach area) I think the beaches are public but I must be a long walk around to see the beach without cutting through the resort.
