Atlantis Gambling

I've come out of lurker mode and need to ask a question.

Does anyone know if I can use a credit card at Atlantis to gamble? In other words, do you need cash only or can you put it on your credit card?

BTW, this is the best site I've found and has the most DCL information available. I cruise on the Wonder in November. CAN'T WAIT!!!!

Hi and welcome. I went to Atlantis this past August while on the Wonder cruise and I have to tell you that I think the place was totally, completely lousy for a casino!!! What a waste of my time and taxi fare money. Go if you want to but I think you will be very disappointed. I do to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut and I was expecting something similar. Not. The place was deserted and the machines were lousy. Lots of the same machines. I can't answer your Credit card question as we only spent about 30 minutes there.

Sorry to give such a bad review, just wanted to give you my honest opinion.

We went in the evening in August 2000. The place was not deserted and looked like the casinos at Atlantic City. I'm not a big casino person but there were rows and rows of machines for all prices. I don't know about the credit card, but knowing casinos I'm sure you could use your credit card, plus I do think I saw a Teller machine where you could probably get an advance. We each limited ourselves to $20 and I was at one time up to $54, small potatoes, but we had 2 hours of entertainment and left with 0. I did see some big winners, like the guy who found a $100 chip left in the machine, used it and won $1500. I would not have found it because you would not have found me near a $100 machine. We also walked around the Mall in the hotel and looked at the expensive merchandise.

We enjoyed the casino at Atlantis. Thought it was very tastefully decorated and found the staff to be very professional and friendly. We used cash but since this is a major resort I am pretty sure you can use your credit card (after all they want to make it easy for you to spend money!)

On the 4 day cruise you are in Nassau on a Monday so don't expect big crowds in the casino. We liked the fact that it was laid back and somewhat quiet.

My DW is strictly a slots player and she spent a good 2 hours at that machines.

It is certainly no Vegas but we had fun!

Have a great trip!

How for is it to the casino from the dock? Can you walk? Is there a bus or do you need to take a taxi? If so, how much is the cost?

Thank you for all the wonderful information provided in this board. :bounce:

Hi,

From what I can remember, it would be an extremely long walk and not one that you may want to try since it goes through some questionable neighborhoods.

There are taxis waiting as you come off the boat and you can get a price from the driver before you head off to Atlantis. I believe we paid $4.00 pp plus the toll of $1.00 for the taxi.

Be advised, these are not normal taxis, they are usually small minivans and they herd as many people as possible in before heading off to their destination. It was a very warm day and there were 8 people plus the driver and a baby stroller with no a/c at all. We survived the trip but it was definetly an experience.

The driver will also arrange to pick you up at a pre-determined time for the return trip to the dock. We had no problems with that part of the trip as there were only 4 of us returning in the van.

I personally was not very comfortable with Nassau. It is poverty stricken and not the cleanest island I have ever seen and I was concerned about crime. We wanted to see Atlantis and gamble and I am glad that we did but I would not even get off the ship if we were to ever go there again. Just my opion...no flames please:Pinkbounc

If you go on one of the excursions they will take you over on a water taxi and give you a tour/history of the harbor on the way. But even after you get off the water taxi you still have a bit of a hike to get to the resort. If you go on your own you can get a taxi right on the pier just as you get off the ship. It is a short ride and the price is negotiable but I can't remember what we paid -- I don't think it was very expensive at all.

We thought the tour was not worth the cost. They rush you through the aquarium area (the "dig") and then drop you off in the shopping/casino area. On our second trip we got a room at the Comfort Suites across the street which gives you full access to the Atlantis resort including the pools and slides. The cost of the room per person was slightly higher than the tour but we got much more enjoyment out of it. This was one of the highlights of our vacation.

I love the casino at Atlantis. The place is beautiful and huge. There were a lot of people in the casino when we were there last Friday, October 11th. Hubby and I won over $400.00. Our favorite slot machine is WINNING STREAK!!!!! We were also there in January and won over $500.00 on the same machine...

Thanks for the quick replies! They were very helpful. I would rather stay on the ship but I think my sister and her husband want to do a little gambling. Maybe we'll make the decision when we get there.

suwoogie,
You can set up a credit line at Atlantis like most casinos in Las Vegas. Call Atlantis and ask for casino credit department. They'll fax you a credit application.

I've found that credit lines are very convenient and don't require you to carry large sums of money. But, be careful! Don't ask for a high line of credit unless you plan to use it all. Its very tempting to keep going back for more credit.

Depending upon the game and amount you play, Atlantis can be a great casino. Comps are harder to come by on weekends and evenings than during afternoon. Always be polite to the pit personnel and don't be afraid to ask for lunch or dinner if you've played $25/hand for at least 1 hour.

Good Luck!

I've found Atlantis comps very sparce. I played $25 blackjack for 90 minutes and broke even. Then I went over to a dollar slot machine, put in $20 and won $1500. I went to ask for a lunch comp and was told I had to play 4 hours on the tables for lunch! I took my winnings and ran. If they had fed me lunch they might have gotten some of it back :-)
