Atlantis by Taxi or Disney excursion

We still plan to go to Atlantis but want to know if anyone knows if there is any difference as to where you catch your transportation when you go by cab vs excursion. On the DCL website it says it is a 15 minute walk to catch the bus to Atlantis & a 10 minute walk from Atlantis to catch the bus. Is this the same if we take a cab? Is the area we walk in populated or more remote?

In light of the problem in Nassau, we would like to minimize our time in the open & be as safety concious as possible.

Thanks for any help you can give.

I have been there twice and have taken cabs over there on my own. They charged me a flat fee. Don't remember how much. There are people waiting to see if you need cabs when you get into the building after you get off the ship. They usually pile you in with others into a van. There is a taxi area at Atlantis to catch one to come back. We didn't have any problems. This is cheaper than going via Disney. I'm pretty sure we didn't pay more than 20 roundtrip. I want to say it was $6 each way, but not sure.

If you are going to take a taxi the universal rate is $4.00/person. We had our first experience with the water ferry this weekend which is $3.00. I wouldn't recommend it! We were told to walk on the slip were the boats tie up to. It's a big drop to the ocean. I nearly tripped on the ropes a few times. Then we got to the ferry and it looked like something from the 1920's. There were cement seats. The first thing I did was look at the life jackets above. There were about 25 of us and only about 10 jackets. Then the boat was bobbing in and out of the waves. Thank goodness for the free motion sickness pills on the Wonder lol!

It was about a 10 minute walk from the ferry to Atlantis. The taxis take you right from port to the door at Atlantis. I am not sure how the DCL excursion does it. The only good thing about the ferry was a man giving us history about the island but he wanted a tip from everyone.

Tinkmom! I always say the same thing about the water taxi!

It's like taking your life in your own hands. :lmao: I swear it was the only time that I looked around and tried to estimate how long it would take me to swim to shore with two kids, if needed.

starview - which excursion are you talking about? In Atlantis there are a few different ones. When we go to Nassau, we booked a room at Atlantis (in advance) because the price divided by 4 is cheaper than taking 4 cruise excursions. Then everything is open to us as "Guests of Atlantis" - the water slides, the beach, the pools, the dig

If you do an excursion, pending on the excursion, only certain things are open to cruise guests.

The safest and easiest ways to get to Atlantis. Get off the ship. Walk into the port building (it's secure, no locals allowed in at that point, just shop owners). Go up to the transportation desk and ask for a "taxi to Atlantis" - they will line you up and put you with a driver who will escort you out of the terminal building and into a waiting taxi. Its $4 per person flat rate.

Then that driver will drop you off at the front door. It's door to door service. No being hassled by anyone. I've done it alone with 2 kids. Its possible and very easy. :)

Thank you. That is exactly what I was hoping for. It's just my DH & myself & we just want to go to the Dig & the casino. We would have booked the Discover Atlantis tour if the taxi situation had been difficult. We definitely did not prefer that option because we'd like to come & go on our schedule.

Good to know about the water taxi too. My husband doesn't swim. :rotfl2:
