Disney reopens 1,000 rooms at French Quarter resort

In a sign of continued optimism about future tourism, Walt Disney World announced it is taking reservations for the 1,008 moderately-priced rooms at Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter Resort.

The rooms, which make up about half of the Port Orleans complex, were closed in May to undergo a multi-million dollar renovation.

However, industry sources say the 10-month closure -- far longer than a rehabilitation would normally require -- was put in place to adjust for lowered demand, particularly with the debut of 2,880 bargain-priced rooms at the Pop Century project in December.

Reservations taken now are for the Easter season, beginning March 21.

Additionally, Disney says it is trying to fill more than 200 job openings at the soon-to-open resort for a variety of positions, including housekeeping, recreation and front desk jobs.
