There's a new rendition of Silent Night that been playing on the radio lately.
Not sure how to describe it other than the guy has a real unique voice...kind of a gravely tenor...sounds like a guy who'd normally sing modern rock. Background music is mostly acoustic guitar.

here's a bonus: I love the Rod Stewart/Dolly Parton duet....what an unlikely team.

Just a guess here, but it could be the lead singer from the group
Crash Test Dummies. I heard him sing a "Silent Night" rendention
at an ice skating show a few years back and it matches your
description.

I'm just taking a guess, but it could be Steve Tyrell. He has a bit of gravel in his voice but not as recognizable as Rod Stewart.

It's neither one of those guys. The guy singing this version has what I'd call an "alternative rock" kind of voice.

Sound kind of like the guy who sings the song which contains:
i can't stand the pain......it's not easy
