Anyone else disappointed with the Star Wars ride ?

I don't care for it. I'm not a Star Wars fan, and the ride is a bit jerky for my taste. But, my kids LOVE the ride, so it's a must-do for us on every trip.

My kids wouldn't care if they sat in a cardboard box and some guy shook it as long as it said "Star Wars" on the outside of the box. The ride is okay. My kids will love it and my husband loves it because he remembers it from childhood. It will be a first for my children when we go in June and a remembered love for my husband who is thrilled to get to share it with his children. As a matter of fact I may end up on the sidelines if our toddler dosn't sprout another couple of inches before we go in June.

My mother looooooooves Star Wars, and this ride was a huge let down for her.

Anyone else feel this way ?

It is a little dated compared to the newer Star Wars movies. Maybe they will update the ride soon.

We think its a wee bit outdated. Does anyone know if the driver was done by two different voices. A few years back we thought the voice was Pee Wee Herman and then about 2004, we thought it sounded different. Are we mistaken?

Hoo boy, this ride really resonates with young boys. My two nephews are Star Wars addicts and this ride is one of their favourites. Me, not so much. A bit jerky and a wee bit outdated. I love the queue for it though! :thumbsup2

Yes and no. RX-24 ("Rex") has always been voiced by Paul "Pee-Wee Herman" Rubens.

Star Tours first opened in Jan. 1987 at Disneyland Resort, replacing "Adventure Thru Inner Space" (sharp-eyed viewers can spy the giant microscope from that attraction in the Star Tours film). WDW's version opened at the Disney-MGM Studios almost three years later in Dec. 1989. Ten years later, in 1999, when Lucas released "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace", Disney remodeled the attraction's souvenir shop and gave it a "Tatooine" makeover.

In 2005, George Lucas confirmed that ILM and Disney are indeed planning on making Star Tours II a reality. The plans would call for the ride's rear-projection screen to be replaced with a 3-D hi-def video screen that would not require special glasses.

I agree, update time!!! My seven year old is nuts for anything star wars. He went on it once and was not interested in riding it again.

REALLY? I hadn't heard that. Awesome. That's not quite what I hoped for (I was thinking something to the level of Mission:Space, or even more state-of-the-art), but it should be a welcome change.

My DS is 7 and loves it, I think it is boring and my DW won't ride it.
I think this could be a awesome attraction if they gave it a new film.

I have never seen Star Wars and I don't think my DH likes it but we went on the ride anyways. Needless to say, it was not that great at all. I was really surprised at how old the ride seemed. I thought it was going to be a cool ride by the looks of the queue. I probably would have thought it was cool if I was under 10 but I don't think I'll be going on it again!

My son and I are really looking forward to this ride! We haven't been to WDW in 7 years, and all we remembered about this one was the queue! He is a huge SW fan now and we will enjoy the ride - dated or not. We are going to leave the rest of our group and head over to MGM one evening just to ride Star Tours since our plans don't include MGM.

Disney and Lucas worked on an update back in the 90's but it fell apart due to issues over, you guessed it, money. Rumor is Disney didn't want to pay for the sound upgrades Lucas wanted, but I doubt it was that simple.

Nothing even remotely concrete with regard to a future update has been announced.

It definitely could use an update, thought its still more realistic as it is than Mission:Space.

I've always liked the idea of having multiple films and destinations at the same time. You pick the one you want to wait for and visit.

But I'm also afraid that if they update it, JarJar will show up in it.

I hate Star Wars and have never seen a Star Wars movie in my life, but its an okay ride.
There's not all that much to do at MGM anyway so why not?
It is VERY outdated though.
I would never wait in line for it. Whenever I ride it, its pretty much walk-on.

I certaintly don't have anything against it but it could use a little updating. To me it doesn't really feel like I'm flying around in space but more like I'm in a room that's moving. I still ride it though! This is off topic but I've noticed a couple people have used "IMO" and "IMHO" on this thread and to be blunt I have no idea what it stands for? It's probably very obvious but I guess I'm just not getting it:confused3

I really dislike the ride and didn't even enjoy it too much as a youngin' when I first went to DL the year it opened. The theming of the queu at both WDW and DL is the best part, the ride uses very little of the more popular characters from the movies and there really should have been plans to have more than a single movie to go along with it initially. Not having another one after all these years is a travesty.

IMO = in my opinion
IMHO = in my honest opinion

It can also mean humble opinion =p.

Most people do use it as honest opinion though.
