hi friends! My husband and I just decided to get annual passes and visit 3 times over next year
to make it worth it.... Our first trip in the pass would be feb 2017 and our dream would be poly, beach club or contemporary.... All are booked up for the week or so we want to go (mildly flexible) according to the dvc specialist we used last time (renting points).... Has anyone ever really seen availability open up? I'd hate to book something else we don't want and not be able to move over if this is a possibility that rooms open up...Any idea? Thanks!

Those are 3 very popular resorts and even if someone cancels, there is the wait list. Impossible to tell.

If it is during food and wine, then there are already wait lists out there for owners hoping to get dates. But yes people do cancel reservations which makes rooms come available but the amount really varies and often it's not until the month before that they cancel. But the newly open dates go to the wait list first before becoming available to reservations not wait listed.

Where will you stay if you can't rent at one of those resorts? Will you pay cash rates there, or rent elsewhere?

The only thing you might be able to do is rent a similarly-priced room at a different resort and have the owner waitlist you for the one you prefer.

You would probably have a better chance of getting a BC regular room with an AP discount. I actually prefer the standard rooms over the studios, the seem a tad bigger to me.

Brokers won't waitlist. Owners will rarely.

Odds are very low you get any of those resorts via rental.

Thanks for input!! I'll have to see what the annual pass discount will be then- we are brand new to this annual pass idea living in NY, otherwise we were going to rent points at Saratoga in a studio (only that and AK are available) or cash at riverside, we truly don't need more than a studio so paying extra for 1 bedroom in one of our preferred resorts is not making sense.

If you know where you want to go after February 2017 that is within an 11 month priority booking window, now is the time to try!

I'm assuming you're going during the week of 2/17-2/25, since the rest of February is pretty much open. If you're willing to do a split stay, you might be able to stay in your preferred resort for a couple days (Monday through Thursday) then book somewhere else for the rest of your stay. You could check with your contact if that's something you'd be interested in.
