I am a new member and I live outside of Peterborough, ON. I'm wondering if there is anyone else here from Peterborough and area?

We are planning a trip to Disney World for late August and we are trying to decide if we should fly from Toronto or Buffalo. Any advice?

Thanks, Andrea

Welcome Andrea! I'm a little south of you in Port Hope but I am a Trent Alumni. We fly out of Buffalo and stay onsite. The flight deals are just too good to pass up. Try Jetblue and Air tran. I just booked for late August through them.

Hey There
I'm from Campbellford and we fly out of Toronto and this year plan to drive!! Woohoo!

Yes there is a small contingent from Peterborough! We have had a couple DIS meets in the past couple years. We are probably due for another!! Welcome to the DIS!!

We drive each time, straight thru, part of the fun for us!!:yay:

Peterborough native here...

If you are flying it is almost a no brainer to fly from Buffalo if cost is a factor. I just checked August 14 on Southwest and it is about $230 per person return, taxes and fees included. You'd be lucky to get 1-way from Pearson for that.

You would have to drive an extra hour and a half from Peterborough but the savings are worth it. The Buffalo airport is easy to navigate.

Have fun. :thumbsup2

Wanna Be Peterborough Resident:thumbsup2
My dad lives part of the year in Peterborough(Home on Pidgeon Lake) and the other half in Texas,,,I've a small piece of property on Buckhorn lake that will be my retirement place someday. :goodvibes
Welcome Andrea,,,I would say how far in advance you can book sometimes makes a difference--last year I was able to get reasonable $ booking ahead (Toronto) but I know alot of people that head to Buf -- because of lower cost of flights. It's the taxes that Toronto airport charges,,,also West Jet flies out of Kitchener and Hamilton to MCO (Orlando International Airport.
Have fun planning.

Hugs Mel

Thanks everyone :). We are booking our vacation on Monday and we will then start to research flights. I appreciate all of the input.

We are hoping to drive sometime in the future but right now we have a 5 year old who gets VERY carsick  so it's not going to work for us for a while.

Welcome:cool1:

I am right in Peterborough, and as Snowwhite already said there are many more of us.

My family has 16 trips under their belt and for over half we flew out of Buffalo. Little longer drive but with a ding rate I have not paid more than $150 for a return trip yet.

We are going in October and I am just waiting for SW to open the schedule up:cheer2:

Hi, I used to live in Peterspatch. I had to get away because I was related to everybody!! My parents and family are still there. I live in Rockport -2 hours away. Have you considered flying out of Syracuse?? Flights are $239.00 round trip. Syracuse from Rockport is 1 1/2hr. away. Something to consider- Good Luck!

Hi Andrea,

Another vote for Syracuse! I live in Kingston and it is so easy and the price is right to take that direct JetBlue flight from SYR to MCO. After driving my DS and his DGF to Toronto to fly to Australia, I sure can appreciate how lucky we are to live close to the border. My BFF and her DH are driving down from Sudbury this year, to fly out of SYR this March Break with us. :drive: CAN"T WAIT!

hello there,
We are kinda from your area. We live in Stouffville but have a cottage in Havelock. We are frequent flyers and have made many trips down south. We try to fly out of Buffalo whenever we can. It is a much more enjoyable airport experience. We always spend the nite before at an airport hotel (been to 3 of the). Never a problem. We are going to SSR/PopCentury/AK in August. Our flights are about $230 using Jet Blue. Was more than double from Pearson.

Welcome to the DIS MomAndrea....actually, we have quite a few Peterborough and area DISers...some long-timers too...lots of great advice on this board....and as you have heard, hockey mom is one of the Buffalo-flight specialists here :worship: ...when you are ready to drive down, I can help you there:drive: we prefer to sit back in the minivan (with lots of Disney DVD's)

...and yes, we are overdue for a DIS meet!!! We are now thinking of possibly the Disney cruise in the near future:boat: ....will need LOTS of help

Hi there,

We are a couple from Whitby but my mom lives in Peterborough so we are there a lot. I recommend keeping a close eye on the prices out of both places. We have flown 14 times with Southwest (southwest.com) out of Buffalo and I have always swore by the rates! I thought that anyone who flew out of Toronto was nuts. However, we just priced out our upcoming trip and found that the flights for both of us would be $400 USD, awesome deal right? But then a sale came up with West Jet and we got the same days for $520 CAD... you can't beat that!!!!!!!!!

So, really... keep an "ear to the ground" so to speak. It could work out that either way would be cheaper... :goodvibes Even the biggest skeptic (me!) has been converted. :goodvibes

Not from Peterborough...but just south on the 115 about 15 mins. to my place. Sorry I can't offer any advice though, as when we took our trip to DW we weren't living here at the time and flew out of Timmins, to YYZ then on to MCO......flights were about $600 a piece.....yikes......but it sure beat the drive, and it was nice to go from -40 degrees to about 26 degrees in about 4 hours.

We have a land/sea booked for Nov. and will to find some cheap flights ourselves, so I'll keep an eye on this post.

Keep a close eye on West Jet. The way I found my flight was through an email that they send out... maybe you can go to their website and subscribe.

When I found my flights, I found them at $750 CAD for 2 people. The next morning I checked and they were the same. After lunch, I came back to my computer at work and saw the sale email. I went right to the site and the exact same flights had gone to $520 CAD for 2 people. I tried to get ahold of DH to confirm the purchase, but he was in a meeting. So, I pulled out a credit card and booked it. An hour later, he returned my call and I went over the price drop with him. I checked the flights again and they were up to $680 CAD for 2 people. So... it really seems just like gambling... but if you stay on top of it, you'll find something good! Southwest operates the same way! :cheer2:
