My doctor put me on this for 7 days because my cycle has been crazy. It's been 6 days and still nothing. :confused3

Anyone familiar?

I had to take it last summer for female issues. It did not make my cycle start, I usuall started a couple of days after I finished it. I was to take it starting on day 14 of my cycle for 2 weeks.

I've had to use it a few times to get a cycle to start. usually it's been about 8-10 weeks since the last one, so the Provera makes me bleed like stink. It doesn't make me sick or anything though.

Good luck

When I took it, it took a few days after to start. I hated taking it though. It was like PMS magnified 1000X!! I did a 7 day cycle and a 14 day! Not pretty!:scared1:

I prescribe provera routinely for patients with dysfunctional uterine bleeding (that is periods too close together, too far apart, too long, etc). It generally does one of several things, depending on your hormonal status (and when you bleed with provera is diagnostic in an of itself). If you have a bleed within a few days of stopping, you didn't ovulate in response to the provera. If you bleed two weeks later, you ovulated. In this case, in a young woman, a certain amount of time, periods will return to a more regular pattern. If you don't bleed at all, you are probably not producing much estrogen, or you had a endometrial ablation or D&C that removed most if not all of the lining of your uterus.

My doctor, who is also one of my partners, is actually giving me provera so I can move my period from during the week I'm on vacation. I am very regular (despite being 52), and I am tired of having my cycle every year on spring break (which is the first week of April) and summer vacation (which is the week after Memorial day). Hope me luck.

I'm on probably my 5th month or so of it. I haven't had any side effects. Usually it takes a couple days after ending the 7 day course for my period to start. Every month I hope it's the last month I need them...

Have taken it many times anywhere from 5 to 10 days of the provera. Sometimes I would start the day after the last pill and sometimes it took up to 10 days. My Dr. always said to call if it didn't start by the 10th day.

I was on it for having a thin lining. (also a lot of bleeding ) I was moved to Prometrium, finally to Birth control and then Mirena. ( Which seems to have worked *knock on wood*)

I have PCOS so very irregular cycles. Prometrium always worked better for me than Provera when I had DUB or no bleeding for a long time. Prometrium is also more natural, so the side effects aren't as bad (at least they weren't for me). Now I just stay on bcp so I know I will have a monthly period (i.e. no uterine lining buildup).

I also have PCOS and take Provera so that I will have a period. I take it day 15 - 25 and usually start 2 days after my last pill. No pms issues for me and I have a regular period.

I also have PCOS and don't ovulate. I take Provera every other month to begin the bleeding.

I have never had a PMS problem while on it. I had worse PMS problems on Clomid.

Good luck!

PCOS here, and when I was trying to get PG, I had to use Provera to get AF going. I don't remember any bad side effects, but I do remember that my period was not expected until after I completed the course. I just went off the pill this month, and I'm wondering if AF will visit on her own. (In case you are wondering, I am NOT trying to get PG).

My best friend was on it a couple of months. She got so crazy on it she told her doctor she'd rather have a complete hysterectomy than continue to take it.

Fortunately they found a middle ground.

Ok, 8 days after stopping provera and still no cycle. How many days *should* it take? Is this normal for it to be so long to get it "flowing"?

How long for menses after taking Provera®

I saw my Dr. 8 days ago and then took Provera® to start a period. How many days will it take before I get one? I took 5 pills, 1 each for 5 days. This is day 8 now.
The menses usually starts anywhere from 2-3 days after completing the Provera® (i.e., about now) up to 2 weeks. Occasionally it doesn't induce a menses and then your doctor may need to give you some estrogen followed by more Provera®. When the Provera® doesn't work, that usually means there had not been enough estrogen around to stimulate growth of the endometrium.

Here is what I found when I googled.

 I completely agree. DH referred to it as my "psycho" drug. I asked him to pick up a prescription for me & when the lady handed it to him & he realized what it was, he gave it back to her & told her to bury it. He refused to bring it to me. :sad2:

I did a 10 day & though it worked, I would almost compare the cramps to labor pains!

I have PCOS so very irregular cycles. Prometrium always worked better for me than Provera when I had DUB or no bleeding for a long time. There must be alot of us out there with PCOS. I was on Prometrium for 6 months with no results (& no side effects either), which is why I was put on Provera. So, with no results on Prometrium (or BCP either!) and Provera destroying my marriage :headache:, my doctor came up with the "perfect" solution - he told me to lose weight.

I mean, why didn't I think of that? After 10 months of sticking to a strict nutrition & exercise regimine (ok, I had a piece of birthday cake on DS's b-day & I ate mashed potatoes & dressing at Thanksgiving) & losing a total of 4 lbs., does he not realize that I want to be overweight? :confused3 I know that losing weight helps, but he also refuses to put me on met until I lose 20 more lbs. In other words - about 5 years from now! :lmao: I am still continuing to try to lose weight, but since my current doc is a fertility specialist & I've had my tubes tied, I don't seem to be much of a priority to him anymore. I do have an appointment with an OB/GYN who specializes in PCOS next month, so hopefully I can get back to normal.

I'm glad that Prometrium worked for you, I wish it worked for me - I had no side effects with it (but no results either).
